The camp host was very helpful we were pulling a car and he helped take the car and the dolly off. In the morning he came and helped again. As they say it's a postage size campground BUT the hospitality is ON POINT! We are headed further north in IL and just needed a place to rest our heads one night. Camp-A-While is a small, family-owned park along Route 66 that I can imagine hasn't changed a great deal since the Mother Road's hey day and that's a good thing, The place is really clean with beautiful trees and the brothers who own it couldn't be friendlier. Wrigley, the four-legged greeter, was also a great soul who came by to check on us off and on. There isn't a concierge hot tub delivery and your kids might not find a water park but we were thrilled with the reliable power, beautiful adjacent corn field with fireflies and just general hospitality. read more

We really wanted to like this place. Cute, convenient and reasonably priced with great initial response. Unfortunately, the two owners were a bit "off", trashing previous guests telling us how bad they were and had an excessive view of "private property" for a campground. My wife is very afraid of tornados in the Midwest so she always wants to know where to find shelter. When we asked about the storm shelter, they blew her concerns off and said "nothing coming for tonight" instead of pointing to the shelter literally 50 ft away from us. I went over to check it out the next morning while taking a walk. And was chastised by one of the owners for "snooping around". It was not marked private as other buildings were. I was told "this is a private campground, you should ask first". Sorry, it's a safety thing that you put in for the safety of our guests. It's not like I'm going thru your front room to get to it. Side note. It was so small only a couple people would fit and it was being used as a storage shed. Other items just creeped us out we were uncomfortable and left early that morning. We will not be returning. Very sad because we really wanted to like the place . read more

Stay as far away as possible. This camp groud might be ok for a night but for long term is terrible. There are no amenities and the spots are on top of each other. The owners are constantly in your business, and have nothing else to do. You have to ask for permission for family to visit. When you leave they will double your electric bill to cover their own share. For all the tradesmen out there stay as far away as possible, you are paying prime spot rental for nothing. read more

I called this place at 10:52pm while my husband and I were traveling on the freeway. We were desperate for a place to stay the night. I was shocked when they answered the phone and agreed to help us come in and set up in approximately 30 minutes. It was close to the freeway and easily accessible. Perfect for the overnight across from the cornfields!!! Full connections and the owners super friendly and helpful. They had us text them when we were in Springfield and met us at the road with flashlights to help us get in as it was late night. It was perfect for what was needed, a safe , quiet place to park the RV for overnight and hooked up. The four legged mascot "Wrigley" is the most perfect dog.! read more

We absolutely love this charming little campground. It is wonderfully shaded, green and surrounded by corn fields. The owners are so friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our conversations with them and our dogs Buster & Rosa had a great time playing with Wrigley - who is the official greeter for Camp-a-While. In almost 5 years of full-timing, this is easily one of our favorite places. The owners are so friendly and go out of their way to make sure you are settled. They are on well water but it was perfectly fine. They are also on septic so no flushing of black tanks - no big deal. We had a level site with clean power - all hookups were very conveniently located. And these guys get it - when you aren't full, don't pack everyone in right next to one another. Earlier this year we stayed in a 100+ site campground in this area, and with only 5 people staying, we were all in a row. This place, with less than 15 sites, is courteous enough to leave an empty site between RVs when possible. THANK YOU FOR THAT!!! No bathhouse + no pool + no playground + no kids = QUIET!! Conveniently located close enough to Springfield and Peoria but in the middle of open fields. A+, 5/5 stars/ top rating for this, one of our all-time favorite campgrounds!! read more

If I could give no stars I would. Guys a trip not honest at all about what he says stayed here for a month working 7 days a week and throws me out over my kids who were here for a week. Park has a playground and he says it's a quiet park but yet trucks and cars passing are louder... Not worth the stay. read more

This is by far the worst camp ground I've been too! He was so friendly at first but then turned into be very disrespectful person! He kicked us out because my kids left a bottle of bubbles and a water gun at the playground and that we had to many vehicles which we only have 2 lol and then he said my kids were laughing to loud at the playground! Ok well y have a playground if Ur kids can't play?? And what 4 year old and 6 year old are gonna just sit on the playground!!! Not to mention he discriminated my son! Because I told him before we moved in that he was a loud child who talked loud! He said ok! That is was fine! Well he lied! Then told lies on them! Said his friend that he left in charge told him she approached my kids several times! That's another lie because I was outside with my kids! Do not stay here! This little RV oasis is a tiny jewel. There are very few spaces, and it's not a water park or a KOA extravaganza, just a small, well-lighted place, as Hemingway would say. Naturally, the two critics are negative, because the people who stay here tend to be mellow, mature adults on the lookout for a quiet respite, which can be found nestled in some of the tallest cornfields and lush soybean fields in Illinois. A children's playground or party spot this is not, although some children, respectful ones, quiet ones, readers, would flourish here. The general amenities are scarce but adequate. Don't stay here expecting bells and whistles, but if you seek shelter from the storm of the road and an off-the-beaten path escape from the general crap one tends to find in RV land, stay here a night and recharge. Best $22.50 (Class B RV. No trailer. Good Sam discount) I spent this summer on the road. read more

This was a nice little park for an overnight on our way back to Wisconsin. A very nice man named Paul answered the phone when I called for a same day spot. It is self check-in, so payment is by cash or check. It was well lighted. They do have restrooms and a washer and dryer in the registration building. TMobile signal was great, and we got several antenna channels. We paid $40 for a pull through with 50 amp full hookups, which was a little high for the amenities. read more
