From the first warm "hello" at check-in to the ease of our departure, the experience felt like staying with good friends--who just happen to run an RV resort. Management That's Present and Personable What stood out immediately? Access to management. Whether face-to-face or via email, they were available and responsive. Emails with event updates and maintenance schedules kept us in the loop, which we appreciated--especially when planning cookouts or karaoke nights! Better yet, the staff weren't just employees--they were also guests, which made the whole vibe feel more down-to-earth and welcoming. They knew the area well (BBQ lovers: Lockhart is just 20 minutes away), and they were always happy to share tips. Amenities: Thoughtfully Designed and Genuinely Fun The resort checks the boxes and then some. Full hookups, well-maintained restrooms with showers, a large pool and an even larger hot tub (we once fit 12 people with room to spare!), and a killer community space next to the pool that played host to potlucks and karaoke nights. There's a massive double fireplace in that communal space, ideal for gatherings when the temps drop. And behind the building? A bonfire area and smaller fire pits surrounded by comfy seating. Bonus: free firewood during our stay! The gym is small (fits two people max) but clean and efficient with a weight machine, treadmill, and bike. There's also a super-clean laundry room with big washers and dryers that made doing laundry less of a chore. Other nice touches: a covered stage (no live shows during our stay, but it's clearly ready for action), and a dog area that was tidy and respected by both staff and fellow guests. Only things we missed? An ice machine and propane refill station--but both were a short drive away. Grounds & Sites: Clean, Sleek, and Spacious This place is sharp. Roads and sites were freshly paved, level, and easy to navigate. The grounds were neatly mowed and edged, and each RV site was thoughtfully laid out with plenty of room to back in--or pull through if you preferred. Being a newer resort, there's not much shade yet. There are young trees that'll eventually grow up, but for now, bring your own coverage if you're sun-sensitive. One notable gripe (shared by multiple guests): the bright parking-lot-style lights scattered throughout the resort. While we get the need for security, they were way too intense. Our humble suggestion? Dimmers, warmer bulbs, or better yet--low ground lighting. Let guests light their own areas for comfort and better stargazing. Location: Central and Convenient Located right off Texas Highway 21, you're close to everything without feeling crowded. Traffic wasn't bad, though you might hear a few semis braking at the nearby stoplight--nothing major. In 20-25 minutes, you can reach Kyle, Lockhart, or San Marcos, and those drives are easy and scenic. Kyle has all the basics (Walmart, H-E-B, Lowe's, etc.). Lockhart is BBQ heaven, and San Marcos is packed with chill spots and river fun. That spring-fed river runs 72° year-round--perfect for floating or paddleboarding. If you're heading into Austin, budget 45+ minutes depending on I-35 traffic. A Place to Party or Chill--Your Pick The overall vibe of The Old El Camino? A sweet mix of family-friendly and fun-loving. A 35‑foot rig is standard, and pets are part of many travelers' families. For a park to suggest we change our home and give up our companions just to fit their narrow idea of who belongs is unacceptable. RV parks should provide space and hospitality, not judgment. Stayed there with my parents for a few days - they even let us stay an extra night when our brake troubles made it so we couldn't make it for our first night. Solar powered strip lights on the site, a fire pit, picnic tables, and absurdly nice washrooms - complete with showers, new renovation and air conditioning - made this a lovely stay. We went biking on some nearby streets and easily could have made it to the nearby state park had we had time. The only downfall is we didn't have a cable hookups, but we managed to get channels anyway. The WiFi was solid most times to work remote but a bit difficult to stream or zoom over at a few points. Not my usual scene to be at an RV lark, but we had a few wild Mexican trim matches and enjoyed our stay.

Only two washers and driers on site but that hasn't seemed to be an issue so far - but they do take quarters so make sure you have a roll for the $2/per cycles. They have a huge field, a pavilion, a nice powered stages, a ton of camping areas, and a great swimming hole. they have indoor toilets and showers, RV hookups. The staff are genuinely nice and professional people. It's only 45 minutes from downtown which is well worth the drive. Just be careful when heading out, it's kind of easy to miss which is what makes it so bad ass- the only people that should be there are the ones smart enough to find it. We arrived and at the front gate while we were signing a release form I asked if we could go in and out and they said yes. We proceeded to the next gate and the woman that let us through said something about bands having to park and walk their stuff in. We laughed it off and said we had a lot of gear and all the cars with us had band people in it. Later that evening it turns out that the woman at the 2nd gate had started taking driver's licenses with no explanation. We left the next morning and on our way out we asked if we would be able to get back in and were told yes. When my boyfriend went back a few hours later he was told that he would have to pay $20 to get back in or leave a credit card or cell phone. Excuse me??? Of course he said no and drove on through. If you allow a 3 day music festival to happen on your campground you should realize that there *will* be a lot of cars. A big majority of these cars will have band and and lots of music equipment in them. You seriously cannot expect them to park and walk with their equipment, that is really just absurd. Also, it is a bad business decision to try and start charging people to enter the campground (after they've already been in and spent the night) in mid-festival so to speak. Did you really think you were going to be able to make us pay to get in an retrieve our things? (This person was so bad that the musicians were calling other friends/musicians and warning them ahead of time about this person.) I realize this is private property but just because it is does not mean you can change the rules in mid-stream. I would not recommend this place for anything other than camping. Do the Flipside goers get this same kind of treatment? I hope not, and I hope no one puts up with it. **EDIT** Ok, so I've heard that it was only 1 chick at the campground that was demanding money and credit cards. The other ladies *did* in fact help people out with gas money to get home so a big thank you to those ladies. This 1 person at the gate really put a bad taste in lots of people's mouths. The campground itself was nice so I'll have to say that I'd give this place another chance.
