A very happy, very tired pup after her first day of doggy day care :)

My pup has been attending Camp Bow Wow for right under two years now. In that time, we've utilized their day care, boarding, and grooming services and have had nothing but positive experiences. She can have a lot of separation anxiety, but the second we walk in the door, she is ready to play. She runs right to the staff! They are so sweet to her, and I never feel like I have to worry when she's there. I love being able to check in on her during the day via a live stream on the app, and I really enjoy the little reports they share on her when I come to pick her up. Occasionally I will have her nails trimmed while she's there, and I love that they file them down after the trim so that they're not rough and scratchy.

I took my pup for an interview there yesterday. The facility looked well kept and a great feature is they have a live stream to watching the rooms at all times for the customers. The interview is also free- compared to some other daycares where you have to pay for an evaluation. I'm more likely to stay with them then test other locations. I did think the rooms were smaller than I had imagined- but I think they are still comparable to other facilities. Each room has an indoor and an outdoor connector. The dogs are split up by temperament and size in 3 rooms. The workers appear to spend more time cleaning and maintaining the area than playing with the dogs- which I'm sure is very necessary and sanitary. It was rainy yesterday so most of the dogs kept to the inside area- however my pup prefers the outdoors- so in my picture it looks like there aren't many. In actuality, I'd say there were ~20 dogs in the same room as mine.

I seen a worker pull a dog back into the play area by it's tail. The dog didn't cry or anything but it still shouldn't be done.

So we drove the 50 minutes with excitement and high hopes. This "club" is run on a volunteer basis so getting a hold of anyone is impossible. Emails are iffy even though they claim to have sent them, and I did check spam. At the training there were 3 instructors; only one was actually good. The main instructor spoke so low and quietly you couldn't hear her half the time . One participant , who was an older lady, had to tell her to speak up because she couldn't hear her but it didn't help. Then there was the blond hair lady who, for whatever reason, decided she had a problem with me. I arrived on time, barely spoke in class, took their instructions, and did my best with implementing those instructions on my puppy. Now here's the issue I had with this person. My positive reinforcement word for my puppy was "good girl" and I would bend down and say that to her every time she hit her training and give her a treat. This woman, I do not know her name or I would gladly put it here, came up on me, I mean very close to my face, and proceeded to say that I'm not saying my positive reinforcement word and did so rudely and with attitude. When I told her yes I'm saying it she looked at me and said, again rudely, "well I'm not hearing it." Hmm I didn't know I had to shout "good girl" for the entire class to hear. Since my dog reaches just above my ankles and when I bend down to praise her I figure she's the only one that needs to hear " good girl" and not the entire class. This instructor, I use that word lightly, was lucky that day. I took her rudeness and attitude and didn't call her on it. I should have but I figured I'd write this review instead She is rude, had attitude and wasn't much of an instructor. We did not return to class and have opted to put our pup in training at another facility. This woman needs to find something else to do. I will say this, there was one instructor, wish I knew her name and her information, who was great. She knew how to speak to people, give you advise without being rude. She would come to you and try to help you do a command while the other two would talk about their day. This instructor was a tall, thin older woman with gray hair. If she trains somewhere other than here I would gladly take my pup to. My advise is to find another training facility that is not run by volunteers and one that will actually help you in all aspects of training. This place is horrible!!!

Nobody has gotten back to me and I've been trying since July... it's November now. I wanted to start taking my dog there but I wanted some more information on the schedule. I bought a personal training package from Instinct and the trainer came to my home to train my dog and me. It was such a good decision. Both May and I really liked working with the trainer Lauren S. Her approach and tone were awesome. I knew from the first appointment with her that it was going to be great. I'd been trying to figure out how to get May to sit for weeks. Lauren got her sitting in a session. All in all I think we had 9 sessions with Lauren. In that time we learned a lot and have been applying it. My relationship with my dog is so much better because of Instinct. The thing I will caution people against is having unrealistic expectations of your dog and the trainer. If you go in with the desire to make your dog a unquestioningly obedient robot then you will be disappointed. Just focus on the over all quality and happiness of your dog's life

We were even sent an hour long questionnaire about our dog's history/health/behavior/etc. prior to training. Y'all...they care so much! We have a 1 year old rescue pup who's dog reactive, and we've been pretty much unable to take him on walks or near other dogs at all. Jenna helped us overcome all of this and we could not be more grateful. She coached us on how to slowly warm him up to lots of different scenarios- we even had a playdate with another dog today with no issues! His reactivity will be something we'll continue to work on for months, but I can't tell you how relieved we are to have gained some confidence with it. Jenna really helped put things into perspective and helped us understand how to read our dog and take things at his pace. You really can't rush progress like this, and I love that Instinct doesn't promise "quick, fast, easy results" because those are not effective or even possible. We would absolutely do this again if given the chance, booking with Instinct was a game changer.

Our pup was…read moreprobably no different than any other pup but my lack of experience with raising dogs led to daily frustration and mental breakdowns. I started seriously questioning returning our puppy because I had ZERO left in me to tolerate her. To make a long story short, we researched dog trainers and were impressed with the amount of positive reviews we read on The Dog Wizard and decided to give the private training sessions a shot. Tate was our trainer and he was heaven sent. I appreciated how he took the time to listen to our individual problems with our pup and never once made me feel like the most clueless dog owner (which I can admit to being at one point). In our sessions I learned an immense amount about how my puppy was interpreting my actions and different methods to try on her. Our sessions were part education and part action. We would apply the newly learned method with the pup until it clicked. Getting a dog trainer does not mean that you are off the hook after he/she leaves. The only way to get your the training methods to stick are to continue to practice them every day. It's a great way to hold you accountable until the next session. I couldn't have been happier with the level of knowledge and accommodation Tate provided us with. If you're even slightly thinking about hiring the Dog Wizard, I can promise you that you and your sanity will not regret it.

But what really sets him apart is that he didn't just train our dog -- he trained us. He took his time, made sure we understood everything, and set us up for success at home.
