A beautiful spot. The nature, jetty, rocks and water are preserved and it is what it is here. No Bells or Whistles: if you are looking for a place with a shower house, vendors, combed beach ect, this is not the place. Nature runs free here. She does what she wants and the land is preserved. It's really a great place to explore vs beach lounging. But, you can lounge if that's your passion. Sometimes the area can be less crowded certain times of the day. The sunsets and sunrises are stunning. You can even catch a glimpse of the Point Judith Lighthouse in the distance. Parking: Tight, tricky and can be crowded. Probably my favorite place to connect with everything I love about living in Rhode Island - any time of the year. Majestic ocean views with a lighthouse, sandy beach, sea wall walking, fishing, dog friendly and last but not least, a sunset experience that takes your breath away. Bundle up because the wind whips pretty fierce here. Nice in the summer to cool off but chiiiillllly in the winter. The dirt road into the area gets graded a couple times a year but it does get very very pitted with deep pot holes. Beware if your vehicle is low. Might not be an easy ride. It's free to enter and it gets very busy in the summer. Portable restrooms are around May until September. While you're here, don't miss the touching granite monument to the lost fisherman over near the raised outlook stop. Bring a picnic lunch, your camera, a chair...swimming is nice in the summer. read more

Parking can be a challenge. There are no restaurants or beach-type facilities here. The road getting in is bumpy, and I'm rating it 5 stars? Yup! Why? Because this is my type of place. The beach is gorgeous. The area is remote and not frequented by tourists and loud beach goers, and the beach is sheltered, which keeps the waves down and the water warmer. The only buildings nearby area porta-potties. I'm not sure why the name is Camp Cronin because camping isn't allowed, and, as far as I know, it's not a camp of any type. It is, however, a popular area with locals, with both fishermen and beach goers, which is why parking can be a challenge. The area fills up fast, but the spots seem to open up quickly because people are always on different schedules and coming or going at all different times. This is a popular spot to photograph the nearby Point Judith Lighthouse off in the distance. There's also a huge jetty that goes quite a distance into the water, and while it looks fun to walk on, it can be quite a challenge, because the rocks are all at different heights and angles, making good footing a challenge. We walked all the way to end and on our way back, we got off and walked on the beach as soon as we could. If the water is rough, this is a great area to get those "epic" water shots of the waves crashing onto the rocks. Just be careful because the rocks on the jetty can be slippery when they get wet. If you're like me and prefer the "beach" as a place to look at nature more than a party spot, this is a great place to visit because it offers the best of what I like. Great views, a nice beach in case you want to lay out in the sun and nice water to take a swim. We definitely love Camp Cronin and will definitely visit again when we're in the area. read more

This beach is a bare bones, no amenities, animal friendly beach with no life guards, and hey, its free too. Do not come here if you need vendors, racked sand, lifeguards, rest rooms etc. The waters are pretty protected by a breakwater and the sand is pretty good, although not as nice as Wheeler. Its very family oriented and as mentioned you can bring your dog too. However all this comes with some social responsibility too, take your trash with you and clean up after your pet and do not assume someone will clean up after you. For those wanting to fish, the long stone breakwater is very popular. read more

A great spot that is typically almost empty during the off season. You can see the lighthouse from the beach, rocks and upper area. The town was installing more no parking signs on the day that I was there so I'm assuming access will be extremely limited come summer time. read more

I come to this beach knowing three things. 1) it's free so it gets crowded 2) there are no bathrooms and 3) it's animal friendly. If you don't like any of those things then do not come. Also don't complain about these things seeing as you aren't paying for anything... As a decent human being you should know that most beaches are carry on carry off- referring to garbage... so please do Mother Nature a solid and pick up/bring any trash you bring. But please do bring your puppersss because nothing is better than seeing a dog have the time of it's life on the beach! read more

Whatever you do, avoid this beach. It's no fun at all. If anyone suggests it, say you want to go to Narragansett instead. No vendors, little parking. Nothing much to do but sit on the beach. And who wants to do such a thing? Boooooring. read more

Absolutely gorgeous view! When it's a nice day, it's usually very crowded and there's limited parking. If you get lucky, it's quiet and peaceful. My only complaint is that the road into Camp Cronin is s dirt road full of holes! read more

This has been my summer spot for years. I don't know where I would go if it closed! I try not to tell too many people about it, since I don't want it to become crowded or filled with riffraff that belong at Lincoln woods or state beaches. Catch my drift? Loved the beach, was our first time there. My only complaint is that it's dog friendly and I love dogs, but too many people cannot control their pets and another woman let her dog crap right on the beach and never picked it up. Gross read more
