I think this is one of the best beaches in the area. There are lots of sandy spots to walk, lay, sit and relax. There are many places to get food or drinks around. It's accessible by public transportation or by car.....During the summer season, parking is free after 5pm, so that makes it easy for those wanting to save some bucks. I could not find a public restroom open after 5pm, but I believe they are open during the paid parking hours. Great for surfing during those windy days. read more

This is one of the best beaches in the east coast I've been to. It is so clean and not too crowded. We try to avoid crowds. I love freedom and space. So we came on a gloomy weekday. Parking on the streets was easy. The staff were so kind, they helped us carrying the wagon down the stairs to the beach. Beach pass is $12 for the family. The beach was so clean. They have a decent food stand as well as bathrooms and lockers ( to purchase for the whole season only ) Not too bad with the seaweed. This is a really nice beach compared to many other East Coast beaches that I've visited. Its $10 entrance, but that is fairly reasonable given that it is clean, not overly crowded, has clean restrooms. Biggest complaint here is that the parking is limited to residents. Given that other states don't do this (at least California and NJ), I think that this policy is kinda ridiculous. But we were able to find parking fairly easily on a weekday. I could imagine that it gets crazy on weekends, and unfortunately there are not even lots where you can pay to park. During the time that I was hear, the waves seemed to be more geared towards beginner surfers (of which I am one). The surfing section was packed though... I think maybe 6-10 feet between each surfer at the peak time. read more

We were touring the area, and a friend said we needed to check out this beach. We had been here before, but it was a few years ago and we were glad to be back. We weren't here to "go to the beach" but rather visit the area and take photos and today didn't disappoint. The weather was warm, and the beach was packed. This is a town beach rather than a state park, but it still has a lot of room, nice, clean facilities and food. The biggest downside is the parking. It's "downtown," and parking can be a challenge. If surfing is your thing, they have you covered with a section near "the wall" dedicated to that. I'm not a huge "beach" person in the sense that I like to lay out and swim all day long, but I really like this beach, and if I were, this would definitely be one of my top choices to visit on a regular basis. read more

This beach was ok- I enjoy going to the beach to be peaceful, sit, and relax, and this was not quite the place for that. I went on a weekday and the beach was PACKED, like people and groups uncomfortably set up on top of each other, kids playing and stepping on others' blankets, etc. (my photos are from later in the day, around 6 pm when it began clearing out). The parking situation was a pain, even during the week. All of the parking lots in front of the beach are for town residents only (despite what their website says) and must have a parking permit. Regardless of the fact that all of those lots were mostly empty... There was one public parking lot located across the street from one of the main entrances, but that was full and I was told that it fills up early in the morning we'll before 10 am even during the week. The town has 2 hour free street parking, however by the time you park and walk to the beach and find a spot to set up at the beach, you have to get ready to walk back to the car and move it again in 1.5 hours. The beach had a snack bar which is nice, although I didn't try it. There are some restaurants, a sandwich shop, and cafe a short walk from from the beach (I tried Picnic Basket, which was very good) which were also convenient, considering I had to walk to move my car anyway. The bathrooms got a little gross throughout the day, but it was nice that they did have them. The beach itself was awesome- I have never seen waves at a beach in the Northeast (Cape Cod, MA, RI) like this before. read more

You can only come here this summer if your a RI resident and taxpayer, maybe previous years this was not the case. The beach is long and flat and has a stone wall surrounding it. Sand looked very nice. At low tide off to the side you can find crabs and all that cool stuff. I went for dinner at a restaurant down the street and walked over to the beach to kill while we waited for a table. I'm from CT and wouldn't be able to come this this beach for a beach day, so remember that before you make plans! read more

4.5 stars for no boardwalk but an awesome beach that gets the job done. It's pricey when you come during business hours (ends 5pm) since you have to pay for parking plus admission. The sand is great quality though and reminds me to powdered sugar. When it's low tide, you can go pretty far out. There's surfers and the waves break pretty well, not too tall so it's mostly beginner surfers. There's also a private beach area (The Dunes) that you can walk to afterhours. There's showers and a bathroom/changing area so that's nice and a feet wash station. Overall, I'll come back and pay only if I spend the whole day here. THINGS TO KNOW: It costs $12 a person to get on the beach. Cash only. No signs about this charge near the road-we found out when we walked up to go down to the beach. The younger girl charging people said she's asked management multiple times to give people a heads up with signs on the road, but they have declined. Kids under a certain age get in for free. I can't recall what age gets in for free. The beach has a little fence that runs alongside it so you have to go in where there are steps down from the sidewalk where you pay and get a wristband. What confused me is that I saw many people without wristbands, so either they are a ninja and somehow got in, or there is a 'resident get in for free' rule I'm not aware of (though that was not mentioned when we paid). It was about 50/50 beachgoers with and without paid wristbands. Beach itself was okay, nothing crazy. The area to the far right is surfing only which is fun to watch, but makes the rest of the already crowded beach pretty swarmed. They have flags on the beach marking off the surfing corner and then also marked is where you are allowed to swim. Really good waves at this beach on the day we went. We parked up far past The Coastguard House where parking wasn't metered and it was worth the longer walk to save a little money since the beach cost quite a bit. Parking was super competitive though! There is a designated lot for beach parking if you want to pay- I saw a guy in a booth. Overall it was okay, but pricey. read more

Pricing is a little ridiculous but the beach is clean, large enough for people to space out. I even got married on this beach because it is beautiful. The water is clean and refreshing, nice waves and just beautiful scenery all around. Lifeguards are on duty during seasonal hours. You can walk the wall, stop and have a dels. Beach was great! Parking was easy as we were able to find free on-street parking. $10 pp entrance fee to beach. Beach was very clean, with the softest white sand. It's a nice beach to visit for a day. I wouldn't want to go for days on end because the crowds can get a little crazy. But the positives are: the water is clean, the waves are big, and there are nice outdoor showers along with a little snack bar and a del's lemonade stand. I love how the bathrooms and changing rooms are very close to the beach and also close to parking. Everything is right there. On a hot summer day, however, GET THERE EARLY! 10am the latest on a week day or you will have to squeeze yourself between others. Not sure how the crowds are on weekends but of course much larger so shoot for 9am or so (if I had to guess). Parking is a decent price at $10 but they really get you with the "admission fee" at $8 a person. Kids 10 and under are free. But still, the $8 is a real bummer, hence knocking off a star. As a bonus, I have yet to smell a cigarette on this beach so woohoo!!! read more

By far my favorite beach in Rhode Island so far. I like it because it's predictable I know what to expect from the staff, from the beachgoers and from the waves. My kids are avid boogie boarders and we can always count on really good waves. They really need to rectify the parking situation and the entrance fee is Is crazy as well. I really feel like for family of four this could be a very expensive day trip. When the history of beaches is having a fairly inexpensive day of fun with the kids. It loses star because they raise the entrance really from $6 last year to $8 this year. But no new amenities were added. read more

Been trying, in vain, to manage my seasonal depression with long walks down this beach the past few weeks, lump in my throat exchange... Cute dogs, fluffy dogs, nice dogs, fast dogs, strong dogs, weak dogs, little dogs, big dogs and all sorts of owners share the journey with me in the parting down of the weak bleak yet fulfillingly sharp winter sun. All along Narragansett beach. Can we make it to the green house? We should try and make it to the green house. We've driven here all the way from Jamestown. I prefer doing this to the 20 minute freeze runs around Jamestown. The dogs run up to you and you feel like crying because they are so sweet, cute, innocent, friendly. Well - that's just ME. The sand is nice, the sights are right, the estuary at the end is amazing - especially when the tide is going in or out. I like taking toy camera pix. The pebbles make interesting shadows in the stark orange late afternoon light in the low tide. The little birds are cute - I used to think they were seagull babies but they have some other name. Who would have thought the beaches in RI would be this awesome. Seriously.... Beach parking was $10 on a weekday and fees were $8 a person kids under 11 are free. So our day at the beach was $34 just arriving here. Really I'm not to cheesed about this as in Europe it's much more expensive. Also I truly believe the money goes to paying the lifeguards and keeping the beach clean and keeping the restrooms clean. Surprisingly the mens restrooms were some of the cleanest public restrooms I've seen at a beach. We arrived here just a bit after 9AM and by 11AM it was packed. By 1 PM even more packed. This was on a Monday in August also. I can't imagine what it's like on the weekends. Sand is very nice on par with Florida or California and the beach was very clean. The water was very clean also. We ate at the canteen stand which had good menu selection. I had the Philly cheese sandwich which was pretty good for beach food. Expect $10-12 per person sandwich and fries (drink not included). Food options are plentiful here but the canteen does get busy 12-1 PM as it's the only restaurant in close proximity. Overall a great fun experience. They said the water was 71F but it felt warmer than that. Most people start leaving by 3-4 pm. Traffic on the way back was a bit heavy until you get out of the traffic lights heading north. read more

Weeeeell.... I came here with much anticipation having seen how beautiful it was during off season. And it wasn't full disappointment or satisfying. There are parts I liked as well as parts I hated. 1. Parking. They take quite a measure to keep out of towners out. Parking lots near the both north and south pavilions were for local residence only. So we had to go up & down Ocean st for half an hour to find a parking spot. I need more research on this. 2. Facilities. These are good amenities. Place where we can get changed as well as plenty of shower to rinse off the sand. I found that $5 is absolutely reasonable. Food stands are overpriced but it's nothing out of ordinary. 3. Beach. Fuckin' awesome. Having used to calm ocean of Nahant, MA, being splashed and smothered by rough waves was absolutely fun! FYI, southern side of the beach is absolutely clusterfuck. Many people pretty much lying next to each other even they are stranger to each other. Having used to open space in Massachusetts Beach, this almost gave me claustrophobic. So we walked further north to find open space. I was leaning toward to give 3 stars but waves boosted the impression way up. I'd like to come back again. Also! They have surfing lesson at the beach. I definitely want to try that next time!!!! We don't get that around here in Massachusetts. Rhode Island rules!!! (in summer, at least) read more

Narragansett Town Beach will open on June 6,2020. The North and South parking lots will be reserved for residents/taxpayers only with the Cabana lot reserved for cabana renters. The West lot will be reserved for employees. There will be no option for non-residents/non-taxpayers to pay to park in any lot. All lots will be manned from 8:30 am to 8 pm to prevent parking by anyone but a resident or taxpayer. The beach capacity has been reduced to 3500 to maintain social distancing and entry will close when that number is reached. Anyone who enters the beach before 8:30 am will required to either show proof of resident or taxpayer status or will be required to pay the $10 per person entry fee. Parking on the streets in the Pier will be monitored and vehicles parked illegally, beyond the time limit or in Town owned lots will be ticketed. Towing will be enforced where posted. read more

What a beautiful, clean beach! As opposed to the water on the west coast, the water on the east coast is wonderfully warm. And this beach was wonderfully clean! It's so refreshing to smell clean ocean air. I had a headache from the flight over, but the ocean air cured me! There are no trash cans here. The rule is that you take your trash with you. So make sure you bring a plastic bag. If you don't they will provide you with one. There are life gaurds and food stands so you can spend all day here. read more

What a great Beach. There is plenty of parking with lots on both sides of the main area. They have a huge building that has everything you would need right in the middle of the beach area (all in season obviously.) From a huge bathroom with plnety of urinals and stalls, several outdoor showers to rinse off as well as many foot sprays to clear off the sand. They also have a first aid room, and a pretty extensive snack bar with some pretty awesome offerings listed on the menu. This is quite a long stretch of beach so there is plenty of room to space out. It is busy, very busy at times, but like I said, tons of beach to spread out on as long as you are willing to walk to find your peace. The great news is, is the beach is currently free and you can bring your dog (off season is the best) When I was there, they did have a TON of announcements about cars parked in the wrong areas, people with dogs (As off season didn't start until the next day) smoking/vaping on the beach etc... It was a bit much and made me miss second beach where I have never heard an announcement, nevermind the list of things this lifeguard had to say on that day. This is def a great beach for families as it has EVERYTHING one would need but maybe not the best option for those looking for peace and quiet. (The annuncements need to go, I am there to relax and to let the ocean sweep away all the rules that life puts on us from our day to day) read more

Decent RI beach that's overfilled with college/teens. Went here on a sunny day in the spring/pre summer. Was able to get parking in the lot during the daytime without paying which is a win for me. Beach itself is alright; not many rocks in the water itself and there's a good stretch of sand for a short walk. Overall good beach if it were not for the parking and the fees. Got to admit that the views were great. There's not a lot of parking but so if you're planning on getting a parking spot.. try to come as early as you can. I don't know why but all over the beach, people make these pebble towers where they'd stack pebbles on top of one another and they're all over the place. I think that's so cool. I love this beach! Having been to pretty much all the RI beaches this one falls in the top tier. The sand is powdery and soft. The waves are never too overpowering and are enjoyable. There's always a Dels guy here which is obligatory. During busy weekends they usually have surfboard and paddle board rentals if that is your cup of tea. The only down side is that they charge to get on the beach per person so it can be more expensive than your local state beaches, but I think it's worth it. I especially love to come in the early evening during the week after work when the crowd dies down. During the summer during a weekday usually they also run movies on the beach which is amazing and so much fun. Can you ask for a greater experience than hearing the waves crash behind you while watching Jaws?! read more

I'm from CT, and this is a 2-hour ride for me, but I haven't been to a beach in the area that I'd rather go to. Crowded? Sure. But I don't have a problem with it, and I hate crowds. It's usually pretty easy to find a somewhat open area where you're not right on top of your neighbor. The waves are the main reason we go. They're generally very good, and make boogie-boarding a blast. When the waves are really good, I can stay in the water all day! It's easy to get annoyed at the fees ($10 parking plus $6/person to get on the beach), but the main reason I go is for the boogie-boarding. To me, it's like going on your favorite ride over and over again, as many times as you want, without having to wait in line. That's well worth the price of admission! The only thing that bothers me here are the slobs who can't throw their garbage away when they leave. It's generally the younger (21 and under) crowd, but I've seen it enough times to be pretty sickened. It probably says more about this generation of young adults than it does about the beach, but it's very annoying. You shouldn't be leaving behind anything but your footprints. No excuse. read more
