Our kids had a blast doing the gem mining, which was a fun bonus after a day of sightseeing. The location is hard to beat if you're visiting Washington, DC. It made getting into the city each day easy and convenient. We didn't get to enjoy many of the campground's amenities because we spent most of our time exploring DC, but based on everything we experienced, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. My youngest really enjoyed the tractor ride!! Highly recommend!

What people say in other reviews needs to think about what they are talking about, it is not a Apartment Building or a Hotel. And I am sorry to say I have to see it Close in November of this year, I have already moved out, But i miss it.

However, the…read moreShenandoah River State Park, down the mountain from well known Skyline Drive and its accompanying federal parkland, is by no means inferior. A rural drive leads to a visitor center, trails, an overlook, river access, and campgrounds. I had time for only a brief visit, but the views were majestic. It would be an excellent place to return for a hike. As with most of Virginia's state parks, there is a modest entrance fee, but I'm sure it's well worth it.

I had great phone signal which almost never happens on these excursions, and I loved making a fire in my fireplace and sitting on the porch with coffee for sunrise, which I could see from Cabin 11. This cabin also was at the end and felt private, even though I could see my neighbors (who had set up Christmas lights! How fun!) There's also a wonderful hiking trail right by these cabins, 10 and 11, the Red Tail Ridge, that was semi-short (2.5 miles or so if desired to create a loop with Big Oak) and had views of the river and Shenandoah valley below!

It is a working farm, and it does have its bucolic charms. That is if you like your shower to be a pull string from the ceiling. (Otherwise the campers would just use endless lukewarm water!) Oh, did I not mention the water isn't hot? Also while I'm on the subject of bathrooms, make sure before you sit down you have checked to see if there is toilet paper. A little pro tip there from an unfortunate experience. But like I said not a bad place. Lots of tall trees, a swimming pool, 1960's era swing set. Two ponds with an abundance of turtles. All of those are nice because they don't have wifi. Imagine that no wifi. So, you know two stars. But then, hey I got the distinct impression they don't want more people.

I hadn't been in awhile and this place is as Yelp worthy as ever on a warm fall day. It's a must…read moredo if you like anything outdoors. They have a giant lake for fishing, you can fish from the dock areas or bring or rent a non-gas powered boat. You can also rent a canoe or paddle boat but all the rental stuff is only open during spring/summer They have a 5 mile trail along the lake that's a nice walk but can be crowded when the weather is good and pay attention since the trail entrance isn't marked as clearly as it could be. They also have mini golf, a train, playgrounds and some other stuff. It's free for Fairfax County residents (glad we're getting something for our taxes) and $10 for everyone else but of course the rentals, mini golf, train, etc. cost extra. There's a decent amount of parking but go early on a nice day or you might have a hard time grabbing a spot. I'll come back here for sure to walk the trail and maybe do a little fishing or rent a boat

This open field brings the sun out onto you, and it's a preference for a more forestry like site. It works for get togethers with friends. Good fishing area too. The floating is decent. They will get you where you need to be, for a quite reasonable cost. The Shenandoah River is beautiful, and you might see the bald eagles. There aren't any really crazy rapids, but that might be more desirable to the masses. I like the camp staff here, as they are polite and friendly.

She stated that maybe another time would fit my budget . Also the long term campers seemed to be somewhat unfriendly. I will not stay there again and would not recommend this RV Park.

A bit of a mixed bag for me at Cunningham Falls…read more.. I was excited to find a listing of parks that supposedly had wheelchair accessible trails. I've never been to Cunningham Falls before and the idea of seeing a waterfall seemed lovely. However, the accessible boardwalk has strips on pretty much everything board which made me feel like I was riding a very angry horse. Each bump shot pain up my spine. I'm writing this a day later and I still hurt, and I think I'm a pretty tough chick... and the view of the falls was mostly blocked and not worth the actual pain. The Falls is more like a small stream of water that splashes down some rocks. It's a soothing noise but I was expecting something more grandiose... I suppose I could blame climate change. Most of the old stream beds are dry. We also checked out the "south beach" which I enjoyed. There's plenty of pavement, and packed gravel. I couldn't get close to the water, but that's okay because it was a sunny day and I prefer to stick to the shade. I was impressed by the fact that every picnic table has a grill nearby. If I lived closer I'd like to think I'd come to the south beach often, hide in the trees near the river, grill something delicious... but I was a several hours long trip from Dundalk, so it's unlikely that I'll return. It was a nice day-trip though. I don't regret going.
