Beware of racist Karen!! our experience was deeply upsetting due to the behavior of one of your staff members, an older white woman who interacted with us throughout our stay. she approached us in an aggressive, dismissive, and disrespectful manner. Her behavior made us feel unwelcome and unwanted. The way she spoke to us and interacted with us left us feeling humiliated and discriminated against. Rather than providing a welcoming and respectful environment, her conduct created an atmosphere of hostility that significantly impacted our stay. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their race or background. We hope you will take this complaint seriously, investigate the incident, and take appropriate steps to ensure that no other guests have to endure a similar experience. Beware of racist staff!!! From the beginning of our stay, we observed that one staff member treated us in a manner that was noticeably different from other guests. She was an older white lady and from here on I will call her Karen. While she greeted and interacted with other campers in a friendly, welcoming, and respectful manner, her behavior toward us was consistently rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. Mind you we were the only ppl of color on this camp ground. She repeatedly singled us out and made comments such as .. "you guys got 30 min to pack up and leave or I will charge you late fee" like lady stop with the threats. Like who talk to people like that? And how would you react if that's how someone chose to speak to you and your family? These interactions were not handled in a consistent or respectful manner compared to how other guests were addressed. Instead, we felt targeted and unfairly scrutinized throughout our stay. We also observed a clear difference in tone and demeanor in her interactions with us compared to others, which made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. The overall experience left us feeling singled out in a way that we believe was Racist, inappropriate and unacceptable for a hospitality environment. We are particularly concerned that these actions may have been influenced by bias, as we were the only guests of our background present in the campground at the time. Regardless of intent, the behavior we experienced created a hostile and unwelcoming environment. We chose Kalamat RV Resort expecting a safe, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere. Unfortunately, our experience did not reflect those expectations. We are requesting that management conduct a thorough investigation into this matter, review staff conduct, and take appropriate corrective action to ensure all guests are treated fairly and respectfully. For new people wanting to stay here monthly they are charging people $900/$1000 a month while the tweakers that live there and have their trailers looking like a dump site pay $600. They opened the restaurant and bar for about two months then shut it down. The grass is never cut. The bathrooms are so so bad nobody cleans them. None of the bathrooms have locks when you go in that work or they just simply don't have them. The people that "run" the place are never and I mean never there and when they are they drive in a circle on the golf cart and call it a day. We had people rent a tent site this weekend and it poured rain last night so they were airing out the tent so they didn't put it away soaking wet and the golf cart lady came and was rude to the people packing up because they should have been gone already mind you there was no body and I mean nobody there that wasn't a monthly stay. They were not trying to stay another night they were trying to dry off their tent. The people running this place are running it into the ground they are not good at their job and we were already going to move because of these issues but after the treatment today and the allowing garbage drug trailer living to go on here we will be leaving and that's unfortunate because this place could be ran really well and be a destination spot if it were ran by better people. Don't let your kids walk around alone the people in the middle are questionable and have questionable people coming and going at all times people sleeping in their cars in front of their trailers. Poor management is how places shut down and that's where this place is heading. Give me the keys and let me get things in order so you don't have to shut down the bar and restaurant because you can't afford to pay people. Idiots fighting until 3am screaming and hitting each other cops coming let's just say our friends won't be back and we will be gone soon. I will spread the word in our RV group because we are being taken for our money when I feel like they should be paying us to stay there. 0 out of 0 recommend. Do not stay here if you have little ones or like to sleep! The website makes it look much nicer than it really is. Many people live here full time making lots of extra noise with power tools and one guy revved his motorcycle on and off for 3 hrs way past the 10pm quiet time. It's already loud enough with the freeway right there but that was the icing on the cake especially with having a little one. We paid for two nights but left after the first night as none of us got any sleep. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! I was extremely disappointed with our experience at this "resort". We left early due to the condition of the facilities and the general atmosphere of the resort. Under no circumstance should an adult male have access to my daughter (or myself) while in the bathroom. The code lock on the two smaller bathroom doors did not lock from the inside, so we had to stand guard. Of course, she didn't realize that until she was in the bathroom. The larger bathroom had one toilet that was completely clogged. There was a person smoking marijuana in the parking lot when we pulled up, and someone was in our reserved spot when we arrived. All three large dumpsters were overflowing on Saturday evening. When we went to the office to speak with someone, it was closed. After the first night, we decided that we wanted working, clean toilets and left. The park is a long-term RV park, not a tent-friendly campground. read more

Camp Kalama rv has apparently been abandoned by its Management. We arrived only to find the office locked up and could not check in. We finally found someone to help with that and went to our space. The park bathroom/shower house was disgusting with trash and just plain filthy. We couldn't use it. The other bathroom had plants growing over the doorway and could not be entered. The entire stay no one was here for help as we watched people trying to check in but Noone around. This used to be a lovely park but owners don't seem to care. Very disappointed. For the price they charged for a partial hook up over $80 a night, you would think it would be taken care of. read more

We arrived after hours and found our paperwork waiting for us on the office billboard. When we got to our assigned RV spot we found that location of the water/electric was too close to the road (very odd!). Thankfully, someone was able to help us switch to a different spot, but several days later (and at least 6 different emails (charge, credit, charge, credit, etc) I found that we were double charged for the 12 hours we stayed there. Prices are outrageous!! $80 + $17 in taxes. Crazy!! Don't recommend, and we definitely wouldn't return! read more

The main bathrooms were under construction. We were given a bathroom code that worked for a single restroom with a urinal and two stalls for both sexes that was filthy, the only toilets (2) were both clogged and backed up, you never knew when you went in if someone was in there using the urinal and you were walking in on them, and the only shower was disgusting and dirty. Poor customer service. We needed a spot and we work from our Rv. I asked how the reception was and they told me it was good. We arrived and we could not even make a phone call out and our booster could not get signal. I had paid over the phone and we didn't even stay. I tried calling and no one would pick up. I left voicemails and when someone did pick up they hung up on me. They charged my card and when I finally got a hold of someone days later they said too bad your card was charged their are no refunds. When I was never told that. We've been in rv parks all across the US for the last 30 years, and this is our first negative review. We just paid almost $100 for one night, and arrived to find poorly maintained hook-ups (and no wastewater connection), dusty, gravel sites with weeds growing all around. They have a really nice, expensive-looking sign by the freeway, but the actual campground is quite shoddy. read more

PROS-The people in the office are friendly, The campers kept to themselves and had smiles, No barking dogs, The 2 children's play areas were sufficient, and there were sites available. CONS-The sites aren't well maintained or looked over before renting out. We had flys from a pile of feces at our site left by the last campers. When I called the office they were gracious about the problem and said they would send someone over to clean it up. They never did show up meanwhile the smell and flys was getting worse. I will try and not make this to long. If I could I would give this park and all the other ones that they are buying up the same star. We had to stay here before this place changed hands. Lucky for use our home was ready to move in before we had to pay these prices. THIS COMPANY does the same thing, Buys RV parks and raises the rent right from the start. I Know the company behind the parks owners and Can tell you for FACT that they will do anything to take your money. I have stayed at most of the parks that they have before they bought then and I will NEVER stay at one they own now. The owner also buys up mobile home parks and in the one we lived in, which was a 55 and older park, raised the rent 200 as soon as they signed the papers. Fixed income people had to sell there home for pennies on the dollar because they raise the rent so high it was hard for them to stay there, lucky for us we was able to sell and buy new before rent went to 975 a month. I know now that there are very few RV parks that they don't own and are forced to stay at one they do own. If at ALL costs keep going to find somewhere else. These parks and mobile home parks are being owned thru WERNER enterprises and given out to family members to run. Its a very sad day that a company only thinks of how much money they can make instead of how they treat the people who stay there. Sorry for the rant but 85 to 90 a night and 925 a month is not realistic. read more

Found this place while driving down I 5. Lady in the office was really nice, we were using a tent and found a spot easily and close to the river. The area is nice, lots of wild black berry bushes which my son loved. The tent sites are not maintained very well, by maintained I mean cleaned between campers. Nothing major just empty water bottle and a few food wrappers. We picked up the few items laying about. While we were setting up someone from the office started riding a big lawn mower around the grounds. There is no grass, it's all dead, so the only thing this accomplished was a lot of dust. We would probably stay here again just because of the river. read more

A 2-star rating is described as "Meh. Ive experienced better." and a 3-star rating is "A-okay"...Id give this place a 2.5-star ONLY because of the River being nice and an half-okay customer service experience, which I will explain. My family and I stayed here for 3 nights, and paid for 2 RV spots along the river. I admit, I reserved here without reading reviews first and I feel I had some of the same feelings others did during our stay. Heres some of the cons: If you are looking for spacious sites, this place is not it. We honestly felt like this park would be much more comfortable without everyone seeming to be right on top of each other. I didnt even want to walk around the grounds because it was basically, back to back RV's. We were given a space "along the river". However, while we were told we could back into it or pull through, I was not aware that our camper would not be facing toward the river in order to hook up. Therefore, the front part of our camper where the Awning is was basically, in the gravel road. I really wish I would have known this. We had 2 kids with us and had to constantly make sure there were no cars coming when the youngest was going in and out of the camper. Also, we had to bring over a water extension hose to reach the water hook up without backing our RV into the overhang of the tree that was over us. We brought a 29 ft fifth wheel, I assume something smaller would not have the same issue at all though. The highway noise is very close. If you are looking for peace and quiet, be aware that this will not be for you unless you are able to drown out this noise. We had an issue with the water turning on. Kelly assured someone would come by to fix it. However, when they came by, they knocked and said we needed to back up more to reach the water. Which we wouldnt, and they assumed that is why we didnt have water, not because we couldnt turn it on. Lastly, and most important... I called to make a reservation here for 2 parties, in 2 spots for an RV and a tent. I spoke with Kelly, who graciously helped me out. She set us up in 2 RV spots next to each other because one was grassier and said our other party half could put a tent on that site as long as they were okay with paying for the RV prices. No problem. Well, after 2 days of camping here, 2 other women were doing their jobs and came to our tent site. She proceeded to tell our other half that they were not allowed to put their tent in this site because it was an RV site and they needed to move. I had a feeling this would happen after reading reviews late, however, I was hoping it wouldnt. Anyway, we pulled out the reciept we filled out with Kelly, and after showing to the other woman, she changed her tune and said, "oh ok. I am glad you showed that to me. Just make sure you have your tent all the way in this space in case I place someone else in an RV next to you." I do understand she was doing her job, however, we filled out all info in the office and I feel she could have checked their information in there before confronting us at our site in the way she did. Our other party did end up leaving and I do not think this customer service helped their decision to stay here longer. Here are some pros: The river is pretty. Saw quite a few people row boats in it and some teens floating in it. Kelly was very nice. When we had an issue with the water turning on and she kept her word that she would send maintainence over in the morning to check it. Then, she did come by later to see if everything worked out. There is a bar and a cafe on site. We did not eat or drink there, so I am not sure how the service or quality is, however, still worth a mention because its not common for all RV park to have these amenities. Our cellphone reception was great, which we needed because we are in school fulltime. General and Important Info: Be aware that to stay here, there is a fee for everything. I DID know this when I booked, however, some do not and may be upset about it...I have read comments about this place "nickle and diming" you, but its best to know before you go in case you have an issue with it because it is also on their website. There is a rate per night for only 2 people. If you have more than 2 people, there is a another small fee for each person over 3 years old. There is also a small fee for each dog and for each shower tokan......the showers are not free. To wrap it up, we unfortunately will not stay here again because our cons were more than our pros. I am not upset about it by any means because sometimes you have to go in order to know for sure if it is right for you. It gets a 2-star from me and not the 3 because it did not have anything that made me really like it. I truly feel if some of the spaces were removed in order to create larger spaces, the park would be more enjoyable. Between that, the highway noise, and the unnecessary management interruption, it wasnt the peaceful experience we were hoping for. read more

My wife and three children lived for the last six months at Camp Kalama. It was cheap and nice at first so we decided to put roots down with the intention of staying a year. The camp management and staff were unbelievably rude and did not maintain the park well at all. The playground equipment has nails and rusty screws poking out, half bolted swing sets, and it is completely unsafe. Their water pipe burst and they asked us to drink our water through an old cracked garden hose connected to our trailer for a few weeks. Our family and other residents who live there feel that you get what you pay for at Camp Kalama. Locked bathrooms, druggies, and non working amenities. It's pretty on the outside but families be aware. Never again. Just keep driving. read more

This is a "rustic" campground. Lots of "monthly" campers. Everyone is very nice and even gave us fishing tips. Some full hookups. No concrete pads. The grass is nice and helps keep it cool. Lots of freeway noise but you can get far enough away to make it tolerable. On the Kamala River. They were also one of the few campgrounds that would take our German Shepherd. Washington now includes them on their dangerous breeds list. We would stay here again. read more

The site we had was so cramped we couldn't even put our out awning We couldn't have a fire in the fire ring because it was way too close to the rv's Very disappointing. There were plenty of open sites and they should have given us one that would have been the enjoyable camping experience for a week. We scheduled it three weeks in advance. Our experience with this camp ground was not a very good one to say the least the office ladies will over charge you and fight with you to give you a refund my son locked the bathroom door to take a shower and then another camper even though there's other restrooms on the property literally adjacent to the shower rooms. Proceeded to beat on the bathroom door then when let in to use the facility's had terrible additued once he left my son then locked the door again and was met with a lady from the office and was screamed at for locking a door tell mind you my son is 7 years old and this lady needs to be fired we were told that there's no smoking which were not smokers so if you want to get yelled at after spending 3-4 hundred dollars for a week of unclean facility's and poor customer service this is the place for you read more

Lots of highway noise. Don't go there when the fish are going up river . People walking through you camp constantly . Don't get a spot along the river because someone else will be in it fishing . They let the public into fish for $12.00 and are not responsible for damage that the public does to your rv or your vehicle . From fishing weights hitting your windshield . The staff was nice, the restrooms were clean and fully stocked. The camp sites are very close together making it so that you have to have your camp fire in front or behind your trailer or motor home, as there isn't enough room between your campsite and the next for more than a picnic table. The river along side the camp had a very small beach and a fish cleaning station, as well as a play ground for the kids. Over half the out houses that were posted up randomly at the camp had caution tape around them. I felt that with the three actual restrooms that these outhouses were unnecessary. Along a section of the river there were stakes with more causation tape warning people that there was a drop off, it would have looked a lot nicer to have a small reflective fence or guard rail there instead. The noise from the freeway was also pretty loud the closer you were to the camp entrance and beach/play ground areas. I think adding a fence along the front of the park would greatly decrease the noise coming from the free way. The camp also had a poke stop for all the Pokémon go users. read more

My family has been camping here for more than 30 years. Camp Kalama is family owned and it is BEAUTIFUL, a little slice of heaven. The park is patrolled often and anyone being overly noisy or bothersome is immediately removed. The owners do not take any crap! The river offers fishing for salmon and steelhead, rafting and swimming at the beach in camp. The water is COLD but refreshing on a hot summer day. There are two playgrounds for the kids, showers and bathrooms, a store and restaurant. There are a variety of tent sites. Tent sites are first come/first served and cannot be reserved. My favorite tent spot is under the soaring oak trees in the grove. There is a fun 4th of July picnic and stellar fireworks display put on by the owners of the camp. The bathrooms are very well maintained and the showers are hot and cheap. read more

Noisy. Tight. Scary. No Thanks, never again. We made reservations in February for an 8 day stay in August. We have a 38' motorhome, and pull a 14' utility trailer, so need lots of room and make sure we tell campgrounds this when we reserve. We were put into a pull through site, with 30 amp (need 50 amp) and no sewer for an 8 day stay. We walked the grounds and found an empty space with 50 amp & sewer and asked to relocate. We were accommodated, thankfully but had to argue with them over it. Freeway noise is outrageous, and all the grass was dead, so very dusty. Very very tight spaces, no room to put chairs out and barely room for the picnic table. In the space of the first 2 days we were there, the sheriffs came 3 times to a site across from us. We were very uncomfortable with this, and left on the 2nd day - paid for 8 days mind you and no refunds. Garbage cans were overflowing, and stank. I will give credit to clean bathrooms (the one closest to the store). Had a tasty diner style meal at the tiny bar (friendly staff there, but real noisy with 2 TVs blasting football and a musty mildew smell). read more

The owner is extremely unprofessional and the space I was assigned for my 28ft trailer was significantly unsafe. It sloped towards the river so badly that I couldn't even put my rear stabilizers down properly. When I raised a concern they didn't care and proceeded to tell me I parked in the space too early and demanded the prior days rental. When I said I intended to voice my concerns about the space and how they do business online, they proceeded to refuse service. Sure this place is cheap, but you get what you pay for and they nickel and dime you for what is ultimately poor accommodations. I went down the street to Brookhollow RV Park had a way better experience. For a couple bucks more I got a level, long, and safe location to park along with a full hookup including dump, wifi cable, plenty of parking, and far superior grounds with nicely manicured grass as opposed to a short dirt lot sloping toward the river, crowded by a tree with no vehicle parking. The staff was far friendlier. Basically a night and day experience. Hopefully, I've saved one of you reading this a lot of grief. read more
