I celebrated my birthday here last weekend and it was such a great experience, minus the weather... I wanted to make this review cause the photos posted on here does zero justice to how beautiful this place really is! The bathrooms and hot shower houses were clean and it felt really good to have it available! The place is also secured. There were staff on site in case we had questions, Tara was very helpful in answering all my questions! We camped at oama left and we had oama right neighbors. It wasn't that bad of a distraction at all, there was a lot of space available for both of us. For this campsite you have to pay for a minimum of 12 campers, but it wasn't too bad considering it's a big space for tents and tables. 2 picnic tables were already provided so that was good! The hot showers were a great touch, after a long day. The beach was walking distance, we overnight fished and had a great time. Some of the rules: there are activities but they are available for ala cart purchase, there is a pool there but you have to rent a lifeguard, you can't have day visitors come by, you're given wristbands for the stay. There are also assigned parking stalls per camp site, we had 3 for ours. Will definitely be booking this place in the future! It's a really nice getaway... read more

Spent the long labor day weekend at camp mokuleia for our annual labor day camping trip. we always choose campsite 5 because we like the layout. The site is gated and feels very safe. There are bathrooms and hot showers and we always have a great time. The swimming in the area is not the best. Lots of reef in the shoreline but you can walk a little ways down and have better swimming spots. The only downside to the location is the parking lot is far so lugging your things gets exhausting. There is an entrance closer on the other side but we are not allowed to use it. Bathrooms are also extremely far and is a nightmare for your early morning or late night bathroom needs. Every time we've been there, parking was a mess. You're assigned a parking spot for your site but no one follows the rules. Also not enough parking. Our site allows 4 stalls but has a 10 person max. We are 5 couples, total 10 people which means 5 cars. All things aside, we love this location and will definitely be back but I would love to see improvements with a second bathroom on the other side as well as parking or drive in options for offloading and unloading. read more

Camp Mokuleia is located North Shore side, right across from Skydive Hawaii. My group and I had a horrible experience working with this camp. We came here to stay for the weekend and to host an event on the property. The camp itself is beautiful, you can't complain when you wake up next to the beach every day. HOWEVER, Camp Mokuleia is a HORRIBLE place to host an event at. Strike 1 - Poor Communication. We were in communication with Camp Mokuleia for months. And we even had a walk thru to confirm certain details. However the week of our event, they basically changed everything on us and took back things they said we could do. Strike 2 - Meal Time. What is up with meal time? Why during the entire planning process of our event was the strictness of meal time not explained? Basically the moment they ring the bell we had only 45 minutes to get food. Then after the 45 minutes were up, they would take the food away. From there, you only have 15 minutes to return all the dishware. A very strict hour is allowed. No flexibility. Strike 3 - Facility. Every day we were here, something went wrong. I would have to say the two big issues was we discovered that one of the group cabins we rented had no hot water and that sparks came out of the wall outlet and fried someone's laptop battery. And on a side note.. There was HUGE spiders in the showers =____= and not like 1 or 2 of them. There was about 10!!! TT_____TT" Strike 4 - The Gate. Camp Mokuleia leaves the front gate open all day. However, when night comes they keep the gate closed. On the first day they provided us a code to open the gate to let guest come and go. However, the code provided did not work and guest were stranded with their cars outside late at night. They were forced to park their cars outside till the next day. Thankfully there were no break-ins or damages to the cars left out on the street. read more

The beach here is beautiful and I love that it is gated but the bathrooms from the campsite is so far. The staff here made it miserable they kept telling us all these rules as if we were breaking them they constantly walked through our camp area for no good reason . The parking from the campsite is also far which makes hauling our things much more difficult , first and last year here. The staff was pretty much the icing on the cake as to why I would not return here. Super unfriendly. read more

This review is only for parking and putting up a tent not cabins or venues. I like that its very secure. There is an entry gate as well as it being fenced all the way around to keep out or to deter some undesirables. Beautiful area to drive in and park however it also being the main and only issue in this review. There is a nice place to park but its kind of far from actual camp sites and quite a distance to lug and carry all the things needed to camp. They should make a trail to drive your vehicle in even just to unload. Our campsite was one of the closer ones and it was at least 50 yards or more away from the parking. The campsite is beautiful with shade from trees...grassy areas...faucets near by....decent bathrooms...warm water showers nice beach access ...even a cool place to chill in the ocean and oops another issue was wish the bathrooms had light but other than that a nice relatively safe place to tent camp. I have also camped at bellows and friends of malaikahana both are pretty cool though but not as secure as camp mokuliea but my preference would go with those two just because of the ease to unload and set up. If you dont mind a 50 yard or more walk to unload then camp mokuliea might be for you. read more

This was the first time I've been here and it is amazing! The last time I went camping in cabins was more than 20 years ago and it was alright. I expected this camp site to be the same but when I arrived, I was amazed! I came here because it was for my daughters school field trip. The cabins were a little far, but worth the walk! As soon as we arrived, the staff was very gracious and super nice to us. They answered our questions with confidence and they were just super friendly. They also talked to the girls in a nice way too. There were three camp leaders....two ladies and one male. I forgot his name but I remember Brooke and I think the other one started with an S. I'm so sorry, but she was the leader of the other two. She was the bomb!!!! She went to camp and then had another job and then would come back to camp the next day.....that girl needs some major props! She gave the chaperones a run down on what to expect in case of an emergency and was very thorough. The cabins were great! There were bunkbeds for everyone and my girls had no complaints......except the showers were cold. But hey....it's camp.....what do you expect. I was anticipating lots of centipedes but I was amazed that there were none! The food was so delicious. MAHALO SHERRY for cooking us such awesome meals! Every single meal was homemade and so delicious. I was not expecting such gourmet meals!!! She made coffee for the adults and made some alternative meals because some had allergies. The girls had so much fun! Thank you!!! read more

I went to this camp as a chaperone for a group of about 100 students. It was a crazy experience but the Camp staff made it much easier! I think my favorite part of the two days was finally being able to lie down in our cabins and falling asleep to the sound of the waves. This place is really beautiful. Even though the students couldn't be on the beach (due to the school's guidelines, not the camps) they enjoyed seeing the blue water, turtles and the occasional eel! The beach was clean and the facilities were too. Bringing a group here was a great, community- building experience. The staff are knowledgeable and patient. Their knowledge of camp games, Hawaiian culture and teens helped the teachers immensely. They were agreeable to dietary needs and the students enjoyed the food. Communicating with the staff was easy and we were able to work together to support the students! read more

I liked this camp. I'm a pretty simple casual person, so I don't need a room at the Trump Tower to be comfortable. The views from the Lodge were awesome!!! So beautiful to watch the waves break. Going to sleep with the sound of the ocean was the best! The bedroom and bathroom were very clean. My church had the whole Lodge (all 20) rooms and the HUGE living area and kitchen to ourselves. Loved every minute. Just remember to bring a bar of soap and shampoo :) read more

Camp Mokuleia is on Farrington Highway west of Haleiwa on the northwest side of Oahu. The setting is on the beach with tent camping among the ironwood trees. Camp sites cost $18. Per person per night. Shelley took my reservation and was very helpful with my booking and directions. Mahalo Shelley! They have toilets and warm water showers by the parking lot. They advertise breakfast at 8 AM for $10. Which is a lot and I missed it. I don't think they actually do it every day. It was very empty and quiet. Two couples brought camper vans. If you don't have a car it is a long way from Haleiwa, which is serviced by TheBus, Honolulu's public transit. If you arrive in Haleiwa in daytime you can hitch hike, at night you may to walk. And it is a long walk! I think it is 4 or 5 miles. Once there it is easy to connect with fellow campers for rides to Haleiwa or even town (Honolulu) or Waikiki. Haleiwa has lots of restaurants as you see here on Yelp, including McDonalds which has free wi-fi. The area is a very nice break from the bustle of Waikiki. There is a public beach access about one mile east of the camp, which took me a half hour walk to reach along the Farrington Highway. The beach has a naturist section at the EAST end of the beach, right side as you face the ocean. The beach at the camp is not accessible to the public. read more

My son had an amazing time at summer camp. He shut off the electronics and unplugged. He enjoyed zip lining, ropes course, paddle boarding, meeting new friends and creating memorable experiences. Chaperone for a group of high school students and stayed for a week. Food was great, hosts were kind, and for the money the place was good. It was about a step above roughing it in the cabins. I recommend that you bring a fan if you come in warmer months and if you have a bad back the bunk beds probably not the best. But as a young teacher with high schoolers this place was fine. These California kids freaked our about the baby roaches at the beginning but after a day they were non existent and the girls mustered up the courage to kill them. We only partook in kayaking and the blind obstacle course while we were here. read more

This review is for the tent camping. The place is nice but the problem is that the restrooms are far from the area and pretty dark. Trees makes the place cooler but the beach by the area are rocky. The camp fire is pretty much pricey, $50 per night. May I add that the staff should be more customer service oriented. Since day 1, dealing with the staff is so frustrating. It came to a point that I wanted to cancel the reservation. Luckily, I had a great/fun group that made this experience a memorable one. Are we going back? Probably not in the near future. Hopefully by the time we go back, they have new set of staff that are more professional and easy to talk with. read more

I got the chance this weekend to spend some time at camp mokuleia. Growing up I use to come here in the summer camp. This was the 1st time being back..since let's just say a long long time ago lol. Wow has this place changed. They still have some of the old structures up but have added new ones on to it. It was nice an relaxing just as I remember. I loved the camp area. You get your own private little area. There's a sink right there to was your dishes. They have hot water showers and the new bathrooms are nice. Better then the public ones. I guess that's why it's kinda pricey to camp there. But me not liking camping. I think I would be able to stay here. We got to see a turtle today that was awesome . read more

Here to give a talk and the accommodations are clean, but very sparse and not quite super well kept up. It is cold here right now in April and very windy which made going swimming not pleasant. It is beautiful and I got watch a whale breach from my window and that made it perfect!! Plus being lulled to sleep by the waves is very soothing. Wish I'd stayed more than only one night. read more

For 18 bucks per adult and 10 per child under 10 you will get a campsite with no electricity, no grill, navy showers( push button faucets, and have to pay to rent a grill. Plus only 1 fire ring for the whole camp(no ground fires allowed) of which you have to pay to use. Oh and you are not allowed to go to the other side of the camp where they usually have church groups. This is the side where there is a swimming pool and basketball court. During our two week stay in Hawaii we camped at four different campgrounds. Camp Mokuleia was by far our favorite. This place is sparsely populated by other campers so we had the pristine beach to ourselves almost the entire time. The only other people we saw while there were the kids staying at the summer camp that is located there as well, and the camp counselors. They did not bother us at all though, for they stayed in a different area of the property where the kids camp buildings are located. There are two showers and two toilets, as well as plenty of campsite sinks around the property. Major plus of this beautiful campground... NO HOMELESS PEOPLE wondering the campsites after dark, which you will find at almost all other campground on Oahu. Which can be unnerving when you are camping in pitch black campgrounds (after dark). Another major plus to this campground is.... drumroll please.... SEA TURTLE SANCTUARY!! The beach here is miles long, very clean, and very not crowded. The waters are clear and there are several amazing swimming spots along the beach without many waves or rocks. We saw at least 20 sea turtles during our three day stay here. They swim near the shore and you don't even need to go swimming to see them swimming around near this shoreline. Also, if you walk north along the sand near sunset you can find beautiful spots to sit and watch the sunsets. The town of Haleiwa is only 15/20 minutes down the road from this campground so you can go there for dinner or for buying supplies easily. One star for the beautiful location and beach front rooms, and for friendly reservation staff. But my group and I had a terrible experience at Camp Mokuleia. It may be a good place for small group gatherings or personal staycation, but it is not recommended for bigger groups. We started planning for our dance festival there in February this year, 8 months before the actual festival. Through out the months, different information was given to us by different people. And while they were flexible with refunding us a portion of our money, we still ended up spending unnecessary $ because of the different information given to us in the beginning. Meals are also extremely expensive considering what is provided, and their meal times are very strict, and meal time rules weren't explained to us until when we got there. It put quite a bit of stress to try to reschedule our activities to accommodate meal time for our group and other groups, despite the fact we paid to rent out the dining hall all day. There just seems to be a lot of miscommunication and "assumed" communication from the staff, and all of their rules and the iron fist ruling on meal time truly put a damper on our festival. Rules and miscommunication aside, we didn't have hot water in the group cabins we rented the first night. The second day, sparks came out of an electrical outlet when one of our guests tried to charge his phone on a dual port charger that he has used while traveling all over the world. The serge luckily only damaged the charger, but it shut down electricity of the entire room. We reported the problem yet the same night, sparks came flying again when our staff member plugged in her laptop charger. It short-circuited her laptop. When we reported both cases, we were told the camp electrical work was certified by their electrician, and the staff had no idea what was going on. The on site emergency staff gave us 3 serge protectors to use for over 20 guests (LMAO) so needless to say, nobody charged their electronics that night because what were we going to do? Huddle together all night to share serge protectors? Also, the gate code they provided for us didn't work at all. Which resulted in our guests being stuck outside of the gate after hours and having to park illegally on the street. When we reported this to the camp, we were met with "we have no idea what happened." OMG. Upon checking out of the camp, I was told that some sort of compensation would be arranged. Yet when I called, I was told their electrical work is fine and it was probably something we plugged in. Really? A dual port charger and a laptop charger? I had to FIGHT to get the one room refunded (our guest checked out early because he didn't have electricity in his room). I wanted to ask for more reimbursement because of the inconvenience their electrical problems caused, but it had become such a fight just to ask for one room refunded. I was even asked rudely "what do you want?" Not "how can we resolve your frustration?" They eventually agreed to refund the $ for one night as well as $ for the group cabins due to lack of hot water. But I will never put myself in such a stressful situation again, or putting our staff's safety and property at risk by staying at Camp Mokuleia again. To myself and our guests, they are lucky nobody got electrocuted and nothing was set on fire because of their electrical problems. They were also lucky the cars weren't towed or broken into by having to park outside of camp property. For such a beautiful place with probably one of the best camp facilities on the island, it's a shame that safety and professionalism aren't met. The camp still believes there is nothing wrong with their electrical work- good luck to all future campers. But they really should get another electrician to access the situation and avoid potentially serious damage in the future. read more

Beautiful location and camp site. Camp site is right next to the water. Cabins are pretty old and needed some upgrade. There is the lodge but rented a cabin. They also have a cafeteria if you pay for your meals. Breakfast is okay but lunch and dinner not so good. They have a fresh salad bar for lunch and dinner which is good and fruit salad bar for breakfast that's not too bad. They need a real chef at their kitchen cause two nights straight we had chicken that's dry. They also have a camp site for tents. Great camp site for church groups or for family but don't expect too much as far as the cabins. They have hot water but with no decent water pressure. They have a swimming pool but only can swim if they have a lifeguard on duty. They also have a basketball court and a little grass area for the kids to play with some hula hoops and volleyball. This camp site is right next to the main road so expect some loud vehicles and military convoys passing by especially during the early morning hours. read more

I just spent a glorious weekend at Camp Mokuleia. This was my third year there. My review is for the cabins and the food. The cabins sleep around 14-22 people depending on the size. There are bedrooms with bunk beds and a common room with more bunks, a sink, mini fridge and small table/chairs. The bathroom is large and the showers have hot water! The bunks are just your basic wooden bunks with a thin pad but they are comfortable after a long day and they have a full wrap around rail on the top making it safe for younger children. Our church orders meals from the dining hall and they are always delicious. Breakfast is rice, eggs, meat (I've seen bacon, link sausage, Portuguese sausage, little smokies), oatmeal, and fresh fruit. There is coffee and water. An example of lunch is spaghetti with meatballs, garlic bread, and a salad bar. The food is very good and the staff is friendly. But really the main draw to the camp is the setting. The grounds are spectacular. The beach is truly God's country. We saw a turtle just hanging out in the sand on our last morning and many more turtles in the water. The beach is rocky in spots but there are a few sandy area and its gentle and safe for children. There is also a tide pool area. Lots of shade on the ground and benches to look out and reflect. The gate to the camp is locked making your car a little more secure. Going to camp is something I look forward to every year and the owners doing an excellent job maintaining and running the facilities. read more

Camp Mokule`ia was a perfect home for us, the Channel Island Marine Science Academy and Science Club from California, for the past week. the cabin we stayed in was nothing fancy but very comfy. 2 showers and a soft bed. the blue ocean was just 20 feet from our porch and the sound of the waves rolling up on the beach made for a great nights sleep. just awesome. the food was great and the staff was as good as it gets.we were out early every morning and it was nice to know we had this amazing place to come back to after a busy day on the North shore. while in camp we swam, kayaked and snorkeled with Green Sea Turtles right here at Mokule`ia. we loved it, Plus shave ice was just 15 min away. Went there when I was younger and enjoyed it so when our company wanted to hold a retreat, I suggested the location. BAD idea. Okay, before I submit my review, I just want to mention that the people running the camp are nice. What made the experience such a horror is that I was dealing with three different people giving me three different sets of info. And they made it seem like I was the one giving them wrong information. It frustrated me to the point where I wanted to just cancel the reservation and pay the termination fee. But we had already planned out the retreat for 45 on our staff so that wasn't an option. What ended up happening was that they double booked us in one of the facilities so we had to move out of there mid-retreat. AND they had the nerve to ask us if we could help them out by checking out of our rooms earlier than our reservation ended because they wanted to make room for the next group. SERIOUSLY????? Anyway, go at your own risk. It's such a nice place but dealing with the people there (again, they are nice) is definitely NOT worth it. read more

This year was the second time that we stayed at Camp Mokuleia. Our church rented out the entire lodge, and about a 1/3 of the campground as well. The views from the lodge are gorgeous, and it's clean and comfortable. The staff is around if needed, but are unobtrusive. Will definitely be going back. read more

Our church group went this weekend. I did read the reviews ahead of time, and I was pleasantly surprised. I always am after reading a bad review. The cabins were rustic but perfect for tentless camping with toilets, hot showers, lights, electricity and a mini-fridge under the same roof. Some people stayed in the lodgehouse which had nice private and clean rooms. Parking was convenient. The area was secure and well lit around the buildings. The food they provided was generous and decent. I give them 5 stars because you get what you pay for. For those complainers with nice cars and gourmet palates, go to Turtle Bay and spend $500 a day OR for tenters, go get the city permit for $12 - 1month to 1year in advance. We had our Church retreat here last weekend (Episcopal), and it was AWESOME! There is such a deep sense of spirit on these grounds, the mana is powerful. The staff is terrific. The grounds were clean, with great accessible showers and bathrooms for the campgrounds. We really liked the fact that they have added more sinks to the campground area. We brought out our own fire pit, and they had wood for us to use. The lodge rooms have been upgraded, and are a lot better than in the past. New furniture in the main area of the lodge. The chapel has been refurbished, with the beautiful ohia floors being redone. The beach, as always is wonderful, great swimming in front of the lodge, and snorkeling in front of the campgrounds. The honu seem to come in close when you talk on the beach. Even they are hospitable! Take advantage of this place everyone! I highly recommend it to other churches in the diocese. Even those who were hesitant to come out ended up loving it! read more

I was at this camp for an art retreat at the beginning of March 2016. Beautiful North Shore, Oahu, I came from Canada to paint in Hawaii. I was physically injured when I arrived and I was given extra help when I needed it. The meals were always on time and delicious. The camp was very clean, friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. Very Aloha, or at least what a Canadian thinks "aloha" means... I hope to be back again, the sooner the better! read more
