I wanted him to learn more about photo pretty much to improve his Instagram...I was getting tired of only seeing his weird selfies and thought he could benefit from a little more perspective. From the first day I could see he started to understand the power of photography and perception. He made new friends and did some really wonderful portraiture and fashion photography. The most amazing part was the camp was held in the Leica studio! My son loved the staff and mentioned he liked the food too. I think he's really proud of the portfolio he put together during the camp and has come away with a great experience and some really awesome new connections.

It offers art classes for all ages, though I suspect most of its students are kids. My six-year-old Leo B. has become something of a regular, and he absolutely loves the place. For my part, I appreciate that there's always a camp available when I need it, sometimes even at the last minute. Popular classes sell out (if you want an anime/Pokémon/Hello Kitty kind of week, get on it), but most don't seem to reach capacity. There are camps for pretty much every school break, including one-day camps for various holidays. Parking is easy, as are drop-off and pick-up. Leo did one day camp last year, then two weeks of summer camp last month. He's a fairly shy kid, and was only willing to sign up because he had friends from school who would be with him. I was pleasantly surprised when he requested to come back for a second week this summer, knowing he wouldn't have any friends in that class. Artist Lab has different themes for each week, and he went for under the sea and pop art. There were different teachers rotating in and out, and to be honest, I never really talked to any of them, though they all seemed quite nice. I dealt with all the administrative stuff through text and email and enjoyed getting photo updates in the text thread. Leo had fun every day, and came home with all kinds of artwork that we're now stuck with until all parties are willing to get rid of them. He made sculptures and paintings and even sewed a little fish. I also liked that he got to learn a little about pop art after a somewhat difficult visit to the Tate Modern earlier in the month. I'm sure we'll be back to Artist Lab next summer, and possibly earlier. Leo will ask for it, and before long, his brother will want in on the action.

It was clear they created a positive, engaging, and supportive environment. We're so excited for her next class and look forward to seeing her continue to learn and grow at Little Kitchen Academy!

So when it came time to enroll in summer camps, I searched through the multitude of art camps, almost ignoring Kids Artistic Sense because it is housed in the near-barren Westside Pavillion. I am so glad that I decided instead to go check it out in person. Such a pleasant surprise. A most beautiful (and clean!) facility focused on real art (not piles of papers & craft projects that you don't know what to do with). Other activities like Legos, clay/kinetic sand, even an area for ball play so kids can shake their wiggles out! The most warm & encouraging staff, led by Miss Sandra who truly knew my son after his first visit. We started with a one-day trial on Memorial Day & ended up signing up for 3 weeks of summer camp. (2 of which are already sadly done). My son cannot wait to go back in July for his 3rd week & we are trying to rearrange our schedule to add another week. It is that special! They do a great job of letting kids express themselves, and at the same time teaching them about different artists and techniques. We had her birthday party there this year and it was AMAZING. The kids had a ton of fun and created beautiful individual paintings and a group painting. I highly recommend it. The staff were so helpful and made the experience fun for everyone. Many of the parents and kids said how much they enjoyed it. We ordered food Frida's Tacos in the mall and the food was delicious. You can order from any restaurant you choose which is another plus. I was really hopeful about Tumbleweed Day Camp, but my experience trying to cancel has been…read morefrustrating and disappointing. We had to move out of the area and I notified the camp as soon as possible, asking to cancel and requesting a refund. I was told they don't offer refunds unless someone from the waitlist takes the spot--which would be fair if they actually tried. Despite multiple email follow-ups over several weeks and being extremely patient, no real effort was made on their end. I personally know someone on the waitlist for our session who never received a call or update. If the policy is dependent on the spot being filled, then it's the camp's responsibility to at least try to fill it. Parents--if you're considering this camp, just know that if anything changes, you'll be stuck. No flexibility, no proactive communication, and no accountability in their own process. And if you're on the waitlist, don't just wait for a call--because they may never make one. Be ready to chase them down. Really disappointed in how this was handled.

We know we wanted to do some kind of art party but wanted to be unique. We found that at Art Rebel for a glow in the dark art party. Ponti, the owner, made this birthday so special for our 6 year old and all her friends. From the beginning he was so easy to work with and very communicative. Ponti has kids birthday parties down to a science with different activities planned out that all the kids loved! Him and his team handled it all while we got to relax and chat with other parents. On top of that, we didn't have to worry about goodie bags because all the kids went home with a couple pieces of glow in the dark art that they made. There was a separate, and massive, room for food and drinks so when cake cutting came around it was so easy. Also he made setting up and packing up so easy. If you're looking for something different and special for your kid's birthday, I can't highly recommend Art Rebel Studio enough!

My son attended two days of the camp for kids. It smelled strongly of cigarettes inside for the…read morefirst hour. My son's aide (my son is disabled) said it could have been a casino given the smell. This was true for the two days he attended. We won't be finishing the week despite paying for it. Pretty sure smoking inside that building is illegal and definitely shouldn't be allowed right before kids come in. The instructor also left the room entirely several times for 15-20 min. While my son's aide was there, he is not an employee of the camp and should not be responsible for the other children present. Besides those issues, the camp itself was very underwhelming with minimal activities planned beyond drawing. We have done art camps at half the cost that put much more thought into it and didn't lead to lung damage from smoke inhalation.

The coaches are only student athletes, which is fine if you're just looking for something to do. UCLA is using this "camp" to make a quick dime. In other camps, the coaches are actual coaches for Olympic athletes. This camp made discus/shot put throwers spend majority of the time running and training with the runners, instead of learning throwing technique. You don't learn much and for $300, don't even get a shirt or feel much camp culture. We would have been better off spending our effort, time, and money going to the San Francisco camp.

Sign up by the week and age. Track and Field was 9am-3pm M-F $400wk. Receipts for Dependent Care FSA, free parking pass and UCLA Track and Field Shirt. Kids bring their lunches. She fine tuned footing, breathing, movement, vaults, and hurdles, while coming home sore as the challenge progressed. The camp is held at Drake Stadium. My daughter's Track and Field RBUSD middle school coach had her son enrolled here too! Her husband is the RBUSD head high school track coach. They both had amazing things to say about UCLA coaches; what a testament! If you're thinking about it, just do it! You'll love it, and the kids are sure to remember the college exposure. Money well spent.
