Not a bad lake and amenities, food was alright but was working during meals. From the 2 sessions I signed up for (2 months give or take) only got assigned 5 nights and 5 full days off. Promised that if we were on duty we would have help (2 people on duty at any time), but their coverage was lacking resulting in one staff member having to watch 8 kids at a time. First time at a summer camp job, but I can't believe how low the bar was when it came to health and first aid. Kids were puking and vomiting, getting rashes, and getting sick. Their response was giving them a puke bag, brushing it off, and/or giving them a break at the health center for a day and then sending them back right out. The nurses on-site slapped band aids and gave lollipops while real practitioners that came by every now and then just confirmed you weren't "that sick". I was horribly sick. I caught it from one of my kids and only given ibuprofen and 2 days at the health center. No tests for Covid or the flu and I probably had one or the other (maybe both how would I know). Had a horrible fever but my 100.3 degree internal temperature was just under their 100.4 degree mark to stay in bed and so I was sent back to work. Tried wearing a mask but I was discouraged for whatever reason? I suppose they would rather let me spread the actual disease rather than let me spread hysteria among the staff and kids. Staff checked up on me every now and then showing surface-level concern but once I announced that I had to leave early because I felt horribly sick they stopped asking and they were also evidently pissed off. Was promised 2800 for staying for the two full sessions but after only one session was given 850 (400 of which was my travel stipend to cover the flight to the camp). If I had been given the right amount of care and medicine I would actually still be there by now. I cared about my kids and I appreciated the environment but all of this was to more or less say that after checking in to an urgent care yesterday I can confirm that I have pneumonia. Do not work here if you can get sick, prefer not to work while being horribly ill, have any sense and perception of others' health and well-being, and if you want to get paid well for your time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears.

We stayed overnight in one of their camper accommodations, walked the grounds to see the archery, tennis, basketball, soccer, and hockey venues, and stood in awe at the magnificence of Lake Ossipee. The grounds are gorgeous, and we loved the different camp features that served as wedding venues- the big dining hall for meals, the wedding ceremony on the beach, the cocktail hour on the waterfront lawn, and the gala reception in the rec hall. My son has been attending for four years. He is there now…read more When we first visited Kabeyun, he was very young and we went for a tour. The former director gave us a tour and we were sold. However we were hesitant because my son has social challenges and never seems to fit it. It has not been a picnic at all times and "not a happy camper" sometimes took on new meaning, but new director Ken Robbins and his staff have done a wonderful job. The best thing about them is that they do not say that everything is wonderful. I know I always get an honest but kind appraisal and so does my son. Last year he got an award on paper plate on the last day of camp and was thrilled. It said "Diamond in the Rough Award". Someone who I showed it to thought this might be a bit insulting to my son. No way. It shows me that the award is real. What other types of awards mean anything, anyway? Also, they provide financial aid to some families. This was a surprise. The camp does not seem like the kind of place that would due to its amazing land, facilities and trips. I just would not think they would need to attract families. This is a great thing. Nothing at Kabeyun is cookie cutter. The boys chose their activities twice per day. The staff has lots of young guys but a lot of seasoned men who are specialists - whether as a carpenter or outdoorsman. Really impressive folks. Highly recommend.
