    Snacks galore.

Sunday, 11-24-2024: We were here to pick up items for the Thanksgiving dinner at our daughter's house. This commissary is old but kept clean and organized. Their restrooms need some serious updating! It is usually fully stocked but it's Thanksgiving week! Anyhow, we were able to buy everything on our list except for poultry seasoning and buttermilk. It looks like both were sold out. The lines for the cash registers were not long at all and we were able to check out quickly. The cashier and the bagger were so nice and polite. We shop in here often since some items are a little cheaper than on the outside.

Did you know that all commissary hours are not the same? This particular commissary has by far the best hours throughout the week! I do not understand why everything has been rearranged, because it's driving me crazy and showing my age. I love the sandwiches and sushi here! The store vibe requires a need for new ordering clerks; I feel like some of the brands here are unknown, not all, but some. The Asian aisle has been completely stripped to just generic brands. My only issues are that the bathrooms for males are always down, and the parking lot is damaged due to the trees.

Pros: lots of pull off coupons. Meat prices are the best in the area. Great deals on cereals, laundry detergent and snacks. Cons: prices are inconsistent and change from day to day. The produce isn't the best.

All Armed Forces grocery stores are operated by the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA). So for the most part, no matter which military installation you're on, be it stateside or overseas, the commissary on base will have the same setup, look and feel. Yes, some are larger than others or offer more or fewer services, like deli counters, bakeries, seafood stations, etc... But if you've been in one, you'll recognize another. Even what is on the shelves will be the same. There will be some items tailored to the local area and special ordered items but pretty much everything will be presented and arranged in the same standardized fashion. This is a good thing, especially for family members who move from base to base on average every three years. This Commissary on Camp Pendleton is nice. It's large and serves a substantial population. It gets really busy so find the low-use time windows and your shopping experience will be a breeze. Post hoarding mode, everything seems to be back to well stocked. Shelves are full and aesthetically pleasing with everything nice and aligned and kept pushed to the edge. You know the neat grocery store look. They have the regular check-out lanes and then the express self-check-out area. I don't know why I call it "express" because most people using self-check-out appear as if they've never used it before. Sloooow. Other than that, the place is clean and neat and still one of the better benefits.

If you haven't tried the Caribbean Bean Salad yet, start there. It's so good. I usually grab a bag of tortilla chips to go with it, but it's equally good with plantain chips. Their Kale & White Bean Salad is another favorite, and I haven't had a fresh juice there that I didn't enjoy. Surprisingly, their matcha is pretty solid too. The store has a great selection overall and feels like the closest thing Oceanside has to a Whole Foods. I find myself stopping in at least once a week for meal prep ingredients, snacks, or something from the deli case. The reason I'm landing at 4 stars instead of 5 is mostly the location. There's almost always something interesting happening outside, and it's not uncommon to see police activity nearby. Also, if you order a fresh juice or hot drink, don't expect it to come out lightning fast. They definitely take their time. That said, those are pretty minor complaints. The quality of the food, produce, and prepared items keeps me coming back. All in all, it's a great neighborhood market with plenty of healthy options and some hidden gems if you're willing to explore a little.

I like their deli selection as it's a higher quality than Albertsons, but I like Albertsons deli items (hot and cold) more. Ralphs has better cheeses. Seafood is standard quality, though more limited. Same with their butcher offerings. I often have to custom order oxtails, picana cuts as they don't stock as much as you'd expect. Large ice cream and chips selection, small pickle selection. Some items are sort of illogically placed. During busy times they tend to run out of key ingredients (thyme and rosemary for thanksgiving). They tend to pull things at night on the early side. Their egg selection is limited, but their hotdog selection is larger than most. Idk who at Kroger does their buying, but they could certainly use a push more towards Pavillions than the standard run of the mill Ralphs.

As a kid I didn't like going here because I didn't think it was as "nice" as Lucky's (aka Albertson's)...how wrong I was!!! Major Market is so much better than Albertsons by a long shot. The produce is better, the hot food is better, and they have a lot of niche/local baked goods that you can't find in most mainstream grocery stores. Not only that but the prices are not too bad, especially for an independent grocery. Unfortunately the last time I visited here, I didn't see that many people. My mom told me that less people have been shopping here and are opting for the Grocery Outlet down the street. As much as I love Grocery Outlet, that makes me sad. I couldn't wait - I had to catch a train - so I left without the groceries and household products that I had PLANNED to buy. They lost more than $50 worth of business - they lost hundreds of dollars worth of business: I won't bother to return where they are not prompt ... and I only have 10 minutes to shop and get out the door if I want to catch my 6:36 train! They wasted more than half of my shopping time so I didn't shop today. And since they wasted my time and I came home without groceries: I'm not coming back for several months. I'm sure they didn't mind losing business due to not opening on time. I'll just give a BAD recommendation about them - and tell people not to waste their time trying to shop there. Half of the reviews on Yelp, for this store: are 1 Star reviews - half of them! I regret leaving a 5 star review last year. This smelly, dirty, bum infested location doesn't have ANY selection of products - I don't recommend it any more. The last time I was in there - a week ago - I noticed that several of their Great Value 2 LBS Smoked Turkey Breast were expired by 3 weeks - they never have time to check their stock dates so those expired meats are still sitting there for sale. The LAST Wal-Mart that literally drove me away as a customer was the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market at 21st Street and Imperial Ave in Barrio Logan (92113) in San Diego CA. They closed that store YEARS ago as unprofitable ... and the store still sits there abandoned: their manager kept discontinuing the best selling items, one-by-one: saying "Well, I couldn't keep it in Stock: So I quit ordering it.". After they discontinued everything that I was buying there - I never went back - the store closed permanently 6 months later: and nothing ever replaced it. That manager never got re-hired by Wal-Mart, either. This Wal-Mart is going to wind up just like that one did, and exactly like the 99¢ Only store that was next door: if they keep up this VERY Bad Excuse for customer service - opening ONLY 5 minutes late - not a big thing. Out of business forever like the rest of the unprofitable Wal-Mart's - not a big thing. Can't wait for the Corporate Ax to fall on these Clowns!!!! Keep chasing customers off - It'll be sooner rather than later!!!

It is comparable to Jimbo's, Lazy Acres, etc. but the produce and deli departments fall short of this greatness by a lot. The sandwhiches from the deli have been wildly inconsistent in my experience; from the price to the portions and overall quality. I am ordering the same sandwhich every time, mind you so it should be the same. One time they forgot to put the meat I circled in it. Sometimes the sandwhich is tiny and feels like a kid's portion. Other times it is a nice portion that's loaded but I would say that is rare. The staff is where things start to degrade as they could use more training in general. Cashiers could be friendlier, deli people need to learn how to read. The store feels a bit cramped and it always seems very busy which I don't like.. I would say this store is a cross between Jimbo's and Major Market or something. There is no self checkout so I have to deduct points there. They do have an express lane at least. Here's another thing I have to deduct points for: they let people solicit right outside the door and they are always there, sometimes even 2 different solicitors. Trader Joes respectably does not allow solicitors in comparison. The prices are decent and certainly better than Sprouts for the most part, but who isn't? About ordering groceries online: They are not on Instacart! They do, however let you order groceries from their website but I am unsure how good it is, haven't tried it. I thought about ordering online and having grocery's delivered and you do get $10 off your first 3 orders if you do this, but I found out I'm just outside the free delivery range by less than a mile and so there is a $10 fee which is pretty ridiculous. There are some hidden fees as well as I ended up buying everything that was in my online cart in person and it was significantly less. To summarize: Pros: - Above average selection of organic and "natural" foods - Prices are better than comparable stores for the most part - Decent alcohol selection (but no hard liquor) Cons: - Solicitors always outside the door - Inconsistent sandwhich quality, portions and price - Store isn't on Instacart - Staff could be better Overall cannot recommend Frazier Farms for reasons I described.

The coleslaw was fresh and creamy, not overly sweet, and worked well as a contrast to the fried seafood. The hush puppies were warm, slightly crisp on the outside, and soft inside -- easy to snack on while enjoying the view. Portions were generous and perfect for a relaxed midday meal. Service & Atmosphere Service was friendly and laid-back, matching the beachy atmosphere. Joe's is clearly about casual fun rather than fine dining, and it delivers on that front with a lively, family-friendly feel.
