My fiancé and I are going on a long trip for Christmas and we needed somewhere to board our dog. We were recommended Camp Run a Mutt to board our corgi. Having heard that they booked up fast for the holidays, we took our dog in early July to have a temperament test which he passed. That same day we paid the deposit to hold our spot at Christmas. I called in November because I had a feeling in my gut something was wrong. Thank goodness I did because when I did call, they told me that they did not have our dog listed to be boarded Christmas week, despite the fact we had already paid a deposit. Fortunately, the worker I spoke to was able to add him to the list. We decided to bring him in again in order for him to get used to camp again before we left for a week. My fiancé dropped him off early, and I began watching the cameras to see him interact with the other dogs. He is a corgi, so he immediately was running around and attempting to herd the other dogs (the zoomies if you will.) Fifteen minutes after my fiancé returned from dropping him off (mind you we were both watching the cameras & seeing him interact with the other dogs) we got a call. They informed us we needed to immediately come and pick up our dog because he was having "anxiety" and "being bullied by the other dogs." They also informed us he was having issues with his recall. (Again we were watching, and while I don't discredit how they felt, it was clear from watching our dog he was merely playing chase.) At that time they informed us that he would not be able to be boarded unless we could come and drop him off for two additional temperament test. Mind you this is three days before we are leaving the country. They also said if our pet sitter who was watching him dropped him off and he did not pass the temperament test on the day she dropped him off, we would need to pick him up. Obviously this was not an option for us as we are literally leaving the country. To say we are disappointed and frustrated is an understatement. Thank goodness, we were able to find a friend to watch our dog for us. It felt as though they truly just wanted to get our money and did not give our dog an opportunity to calm down and get in the groove of being at camp as he was there for less than an hour. It also felt as though they refused our dog because they didn't have enough workers. While I appreciate they gave us a full refund we will not be returning nor can we recommend this location. read more

Woof! Woof! My dog has been coming here for the past nine years for daycare and boarding. I was away on a foreign trip recently. I received photos through text a few times. I also reached out separately twice and the staff were responsive. I checked the muttcam once and was able to find my dog. My dog settled back home easily and I don't think she missed me. There is no risk of her running out of the front door and there is 24/7 coverage. I don't have these assurances with a pet sitter. I would not take my dog somewhere that she doesn't have a history with. She is scared of new environments and it takes her some time to feel comfortable. I also need to feel confident that she'll be taken care of. This takes time. I do expect Camp to remove any dogs that are misbehaving or aggressive, including my own dog. Outside of Camp, my dog was attacked by dogs on two separate occasions. The other dogs are good dogs, but for whatever reason became aggressive. One dog belongs to my brother and the other to my neighbor. It's very scary to deal with angry dogs because you don't know if they will also attack their human handlers. My dog is small and sweet, but she will put on her boxing gloves if needed despite the fact she doesn't stand a chance with bigger dogs. I wouldn't take it personally if she needed to be removed because it's for her own safety as well as the safety of the other dogs and staff. For the past nine years, she's been a happy camper. Woof! This place deserves zero stars. I have been coming to this place for 7 years with my dog, and boarding her as well. Can't even imagine the amount of money I've spent here, probably upwards of $40,000 probably even more. Today I had the pleasure of bringing my English Black Lab for a temperament evaluation. 10am was my appointment. The "Manager" was 15 minutes late. They double booked. Let the lady behind me go first for her dogs evaluation (mind you she has not spent a dime here) told me that it would at least an hour to get my dog in.. Like I have nothing better to do. So I left and said I'll take my dog somewhere else, they could've cared less. I don't ever write reviews and it takes A LOT to tick me off. My pure bread Lab has more brains than these two pea heads at the front desk. You should have taken me first (loyal paying customer) and make the other lady wait (not even a customer yet) You just lost a loyal customer of over 7 years. Good riddance. I miss Sheldon. read more

Great place, but today we were notified via email the business is closed and is trying to reopen under new management. I am not sure if they are financially insolvent, there are health violations or what is going on. It is very concerning and frustrating for those who relied on this for dog daycare. I wanted Winston to start attending here regularly during work hours, so this was a trial run and we were really excited. I thought it would be something really enjoyable, like a vacation for him. Now, I feel so bad I ever left him there. Initially I was weirded out because they claim you can watch your dog and they send updates, but the cameras turn off around 5pm/6pm and do not turn on until sunrise morning time and the updates are not daily. That is fine, when I called to ask about this they said it was for employee safety which is totally fair! Just made me want to see my Win more during the the hours I could check in on him. What I saw was... not ever what I expected... This guy was grabbing Winston by the neck and was crouching over him like this for over thirty seconds!!! Yelp only allows 12 second videos but I have over 2 minutes of this interaction. This is only when he gets caught. I was watching everything live. In the video, you can read Winston's body language and he is very obviously shaken up and not comfortable at all. I immediately called to ask about what I had just seen and apparently they were closing down the pool area and Winston was not complying? Winston is such such a good boy, he is trained and has never known anything other than love for his 7 years. This is NOT how you discipline a dog. Especially not someone else's dog. I ended up flying back in from Mexico two days early to pickup my Winston. The skin around his eyes was super super black black (normally light, pink-ish skin) and he was so lethargic. I had never seen him like this before. For the following 24 hours, he had diarrhea so this finally warranted a trip to the vet. Turns out he had gotten giardia and was severely dehydrated. I know there are a lot of positive reviews here so I don't want to discredit anyone's experiences, but this was ours. I do not put hands on my dog this way, so I certainly would never expect someone else to do this and this is what happens in the hours the camera is actually accessible. read more

Once again I'm back to sing the praises of this spot. This past week I used their boarding service for the first time. I had a family emergency and had to leave town very last minute, like I bought a plane ticket at 5:30am that left at 8:30am kinda last minute. I was so nervous about leaving my pup behind but as soon as I got to Camp I felt better. He loves everyone there so much and they are so sweet to him. I rushed in with a bag full of food and supplements and no time to leave instructions for any of it. The staff, particularly Dakota (thank you dear!) was very helpful and understanding of my situation. She even helped me find a good spot to leave my car so I could Uber to the airport. They took care of everything for my dog so I could focus on getting home to my family. While I was out of town I was sent pictures and updates of Smooch daily and of course it was so great to be able to watch him on the mutt cams! I also love that it's all cage-free. I couldn't stand the thought of my sweet boy being in a kennel all night and I much prefer him sleeping in a giant cuddle puddle of dogs. If I didn't already absolutely love Camp Run-A-Mutt I definitely would now. I feel like it's been about three years I've been bringing Smooch here and I have never had a bad experience. If you are looking for a daycare with exceptional staff and friendly dogs, this is the place for you! read more

Please review this video of my dog's "failed" temperament test. He is the mostly all black dog. You will notice my dog is happily play bowing & remaining a calm demeanor despite another dog becoming aggressive with him. Strangely enough the more aggressive dog is allowed to attend & mine is not. Unfortunately, I suspect there was also breed discrimination involved in this decision. If you have a Pitty breed or if your dog is even a little bit playful with other dogs then I would recommend looking elsewhere. In response to Jennifer: Most dogs need time to calm down from the initial excitement of meeting new friends. For unknown reasons my dog was not given that opportunity as the entirety of his temperament test was 33 seconds. He simply matched the energy of the black and white dog in the video. If I could give 0 stars, I would... I dropped my dog Levi off on Thursday as a perfectly healthy golden retriever. I picked him up on Sunday night and he had Kennel Cough, 2 Hot Spots on his head, an ear infection, and an irritated mouth. I warn other dog owners about bringing their dogs to this place. It clearly is not clean and the employees are not paying enough attention to issues as they arise. I then tried to call and speak with the manager about what happened to Levi. I was told the manager was not in and that I would be called back. I then never received a call back from management. They clearly do not care care about customer service either. I took my dog in to camp run a mutt since I was going to be gone all day. It was a great experience. We did the temperament test and then she stayed that day. The next day we went in for her to get groomed and stay the day. When I picked her up she was a happy girl and looked so clean! As we were leaving they asked if she can have a treat which she was so excited for. Since then I have taken her a few times and she really looks forward to going. I think her favorite part is getting a bone when she leaves. She comes out and goes straight to them for a bone then greets me. I am happy I made the decision to bring her in. When our long-time beloved daycare shut down last week (damn 2020!), we were forced to find another option for our girls, Harley and Rey. It was heartbreaking to leave the staff that Harley in particular (Rey is a relatively new addition to our family) loved so much. So it was a relief to find a similar experience at Camp Run-A-Mutt Point Loma. I knew I wanted an outdoor daycare for the girls - the wading pool was always their favorite at their former daycare - and this location was the most convenient outdoor doggie daycare to our home/work. That, coupled with their outstanding reviews, compelled us to choose this location. CRAM-PL's online registration process and scheduling the temperament test was a breeze. Harley and Rey's temperament test went off without much of a hitch, though our girls were expectedly nervous in this new environment. It helped that one of their employees remembered our girls since she used to work at our former daycare. Harley and Rey spent the day getting acclimated to the yard and they seemed to enjoy themselves based on what we saw on CRAM-PL's muttcams. I really appreciated how bright and welcoming their lobby/retail space is and how kind and attentive their staff are. While we can't promise this will fully fill the void of Camp Kirby in our hearts, so far, things are looking positive. read more

So far so good. After an absolutely terrible experience at another local doggie daycare, I put a lot of thought into where to take my pup. I chose wisely. Although my pup is still new to Camp Run-A-Mutt, so far we are both happy. There is a very good staff to dog ratio, and the dogs have been screened for temperament. The staff follow the necessary standards on vaccinations and sanitation. The WebCamS are a little addicting. The staff really do seem to treat the dogs well. The only catch is that dogs of all sizes mingle together, so maybe not so well suited to a small dog that is afraid of large dogs. Another oddity is that there is a dense population of dogs on any given day, and so the dogs seem to be walking as though they are in a cocktail party as opposed to running around and briskly playing. All is well because my dog seems happy and tired when he gets home. The location is conveniently close to a freeway entrance, but in a congested area, where, during rush hour traffic is not your friend. Also left turns into an out of the daycare a particularly interesting challenge. What I appreciate is that they treat the humans with kindness and respect, which is key and the reason I was looking for a new doggy daycare in the first place. read more

My dog and I did not have a good experience here (in roughly 2020-2021). The pack was very large, with not enough attendants to supervise them. I understand they had absorbed other doggy daycares during the pandemic, so maybe this was an associated problem. But I would not recommend this day camp for young dogs, nor highly strung dogs. It's the chicken/egg syndrome: was my dog innately highly strung and therefore had a bad/stressful time there, or did her experience there cause her to be highly-strung? I don't know the answer, but it's troubling. She was always very exhausted when I picked her up, which of course is good in some sense. But towards the end, I noticed a change where she seemed damp and very quiet, like she'd gotten chewed on by a lot of other dogs. And then, when I asked why the picture they sent me of her had blood on her neck and she looked exhausted, I felt like Camp Run-A-Mutt blamed my dog--almost like they were worried that I'd leave a bad review, and therefore circumvented it by telling me that my dog was the problem, that she was "resource-guarding" an attendant. It's my view that she was afraid and overstimulated by the pack, and was trying to get some safety from the attendant. But of course I don't know this for sure. They brought in their own person to observe her, and wouldn't let me out in the yard at the same time, and then afterwards, told me it was my dog's fault--that She was the aggressive one, towards other dogs. But she had/has never exhibited any aggressive behavior toward any other dogs, outside of this Camp. And it's my belief that this pack was too much for her, too scary and overstimulating. In the end, I felt blamed, and the solution proposed to me was that I get her very expensive obedience lessons (with someone they recommended), before they'd allow her back. I got the obedience lessons, but didn't bring her back. I'm sorry I ever brought her; it breaks my heart to think she was too young to handle was was going on behind closed doors, or just didn't have the temperament for it. Despite there being cameras, I don't think you get a full, true picture of what's going on behind the scenes. I think it's a large, assertive pack and not for puppies or sensitive temperaments. read more

I almost never write reviews but I am so impressed with this camp. The love and caring of the staff is amazing. Scoops goes several times a week and he can't wait to get out of the car. He had to see the Vet on Christmas and we were out of town. The owner took him personally and let him stay with her at her house until we got back. The goomers are amazing and an added bonus to be able to have him bathed and de-shedded while he is at camp. Truly a rare find and an amazing place. read more

Super happy with their services so far! I took my dog since we needed boarding for our vacation. Their initial trial/ screening is much more thorough compared to other boarding companies since the dogs are not kept in any crates while they are there, which made me feel more comfortable that all the dogs are vaccinated and vetted. For my dogs first initial trial, the staff was very friendly and understanding (he was pretty nervous when I first left him). I loved that I could watch him through their "mutt cams" throughout the day. When we left him during our vacation, I got texts every few days with a picture text of him and an update and I watched him on the cams. At the end of the stay he also got a little report card with how he did during the stay, which was very cute. I noticed on my little chihuahua a sore spot under his chin, then I noticed it was getting worse and did not know what was happening, but a month ago after picking him up I saw he was bleeding with what looked like a dog bite. It appears as though his jowl was bitten. It looks like a tooth bite that tore into him. He is scared. The Camp changed hands. I have been taking him to the Camp for 3 years, first on India Street then to Pt. Loma when India St closed its door. I have already paid for several more sessions but now fear for him. Let me just start by giving an extra special thank you all the staff at Camp Run-A-Mutt for making my pup Thor & my first experience at daycare amazing! I HIGHLY recommend this camp location! I was so nervous being a new dog mom & leaving my fur baby somewhere for the first time. I did a lot of research & read so many reviews on daycares & finally decided on the Camp in Point Loma! So thankful I did because they all made it very welcoming, easy & worry-free for me! I was able to watch Thor (on the cameras) go in for his temperament test with 3 other dogs, which he did great. Then go in on a leash to get introduced to all the other dogs while walking around the Camp. Finally he was off leash & had the time of his life for the next 5 hours! I got to check in on their Mutt Cams on my phone & watch him play. Of course my pup loves water so he was one of the only ones in their water fountain playing. I received a text update from a staff member with pictures of Thor playing & said he was enjoying himself & making lots of friends. I thought that was the sweetest thing ever! When I finally arrived to pick him up he ran out to me so happy & I got a report card for him too! So nice to read that & made me laugh! I LOVE this place for my 5 month-old puppy, Ernie !! I started dropping Ernie off around May 1st and and have brought him here maybe 2xs a week just so he can socialize and hang out with other pups while I'm at work. It's helped with his confidence and socializing with other dogs big and small. The staff is so friendly, greeting Ernie by name when we walk through the door. They even send me texts letting me know how much fun Ernie is having. And watching him on the MUTT cams is not only comforting he's in good hands but it's ADDICTING! I love love LOVE CRM Point Loma! And so does my pup!! They are incredibly accommodating and always willing to work with my needs. They also have "muttcams" so you can spy on your pup during the day. Best part is that there is no scheduled playtime BS. It's playtime all day long! If your pup needs to stay the night, they all sleep in a big room and cuddle together, sometimes even sleeping with the overnight staff. I would much rather pay a little bit more to have my pup play at daycare, than to have someone come walk him for only a half hour for the same price. Camp Run-A-Mutt is GREAT! I take my 5 month old puppy, Stevie Nicks, here and she has the best time. When I walk her in during the morning the staff knows her by name and she goes with them just fine now! She's a pretty shy dog at first but she thrives at Camp! I get to watch her on the cameras and each time I see a glimpse of her she's having so much fun playing with the other dogs, sun bathing or splashing in the water. When I pick her up so is so well behaved and falls asleep right when we get into the car and usually sleeps till dinner and then passes out again! Since brining her here I have felt so much more relaxed on knowing that I don't need to rush to her because I know she's having fun with the staff and other pups! My old man is 100% deaf and his sight is on its way out. I get really nervous leaving him because he's not easy anymore and it's stressful for him to be in new environments these days. He's almost 14 years old, can't hear warnings from other dogs, moves slower, can't hear voice commands... Because he can't heed warnings, I'm really picky about where he goes now. On his first overnight at Camp Run a Mutt Point Loma, I wasn't convinced he was going to like it. I couldn't stop watching the mutt cams to make sure he was ok (aka not sad). Its hard to know exactly how your animal truly feels but on camera he looked happy, following around the staff and his report cards always had positive things to say about him. I also appreciate the picture texts the staff sends me to show how he's doing. I've left him there overnight multiple times now and it's been so amazing to not have to worry about him when I'm gone. I also always schedule a full bath with the works towards the end of his visit so he's super fresh and so clean clean when I pick him up It's a relief to know that even though I have a senior dog, who has aging health issues, I can still leave him (uncaged!) in the good company people who genuinely care for his well being. Angie is the best groomer in town! My 6 year old shih tzu, Rocky, has been going to her since he was 5 years old and he lights up with excitement EVERYTIME he sees her. He's such a friendly dog but is also sometimes shy so when I see him interact with Angie it melts my heart. I love how excited he gets. His previous groomer, I noticed every time we'd walk towards the door, he'd pull at his leash in fear of going in. He'd even hide behind me. It broke my heart. Part of me thinks it's because he spends hours crates while he waited for his bath. Not at Camp Run a Mutt! I love how it's cage free so he can explore his surroundings. I saw such a difference in his behavior when I switched him over. He adores the whole team and he knows he's Rock Star with the staff. They are all so wonderful! Rocky is shy and I can tell he wants to socialize since he is a friendly pup so the best part is every now and then Angie's brings in her shih tzus to visit with Rocky. I have a sweet (and timid) Great Dane named Nixon and I took him in to be boarded while I went to New York. Everyone who worked there was incredibly nice and I left on my trip feeling like Nixon was in great hands. They explained the whole boarding process and asked a ton of questions about how they should handle different situations if they arise (e.g. if he wasn't eating etc.). They have dog cams so I was able to check in on Nixon whenever I got a little lonely for him. In addition, I would get texts of him playing with the other dogs and fitting right in. I had scheduled a dog bath for him right before pick-up and when I got him he smelled the best he has in years. Nixon had a great time and, almost as important, I was able to have a great time on my trip knowing that he was in great hands. If you are looking for dog boarding I highly recommend Camp Run a Mutt in Point Loma. It was a great experience and I will be back. read more

I have been bringing my dog to camp run a mutt for about 2 years. The staff are amazing and friendly and love my dog. I can't say anything bad about how things are run, it's cage free and my dog is so excited when I pull in the parking lot. I'm not happy about the recent price increase. They did away with packages which caused the price of what I usually buy to go up $100! That is insane. I do understand that covid has affected a lot of small businesses, I continued to bring my dog through the pandemic and I continued to buy his packages. I have been a loyal customer but in my opinion a price raise of $100 is no longer doable. This unfortunately will be the last "package" that I buy and I will have to look into other methods of dog care. read more
