The moment the when the work needed inspection from the city of Kirkland, which failed quickly. They shirked responsibility and took off with the money. Instead of owning up to their mistake and working to resolve the issue and pour concrete to spec, they never responded and instead blamed us as owners and GCs. Since we trusted them and gave them the full payment in good show of faith - we are now resolved to letting the courts handle it. We are now proceeding with other contractors.

Got several really good contractors off Yelp to come in and have a look, and bids were all over the place with no guarantees of plaster work or timing. Then, I met Blake the owner of Sandstone construction who was straight-up honest about the work required and confident his crew could handle the job. His bid was competitive and the timing was perfect (about two days later). I decided to go with Sandstone on this big project, and can say that the experience has been great with work coming out much better than expected. As the job began, the entire crew (Corso, Rick, Issac, Matt, Melissa, Steve, and others) were sealing up patches day by day. Then filling with sanding and buffing and then painting rooms by hand or spray machine. Finally, touchups to nearly all spaces in the house. The work lasted over 14 days, and this old house was transformed into something really special. The before and after pictures tell the story better than I can. Today, I look up at my coved ceilings and admire the high-quality workmanship. Without a doubt, I highly recommend Sandstone Construction for any of your bigger projects. Blake is not only a great listener but also is a down to earth individual with high character values. I remember Blake mentioning that he "doesn't have time to be dishonest," and got to see this in action when Blake joined his crew in painting till midnight to make sure the job was done on time as promised. Never have I seen construction company do that, so really a credit to Blake and crew on keeping up the momentum and finishing the work. He finally gets back to me and says they 2-3 hours behind schedule. So I say "so 11 or 12 then, he says yes. 12:00 goes by and still no show. I get a call from the same number about 12:13 but it's a different person. She insinuates we have an appointment later in the week and I say no, 9:00am this morning. She says there has been some emergency calls so now they're delayed like 2-3 days. I say mine situation isn't an emergency, we have the water shut off, I have a pregnant daughter and my 77 year old mom lives in the house. She claims to be writing this down and said my situation is an emergency so they'll make sure someone comes out today. Now, 7:35 as I'm writing this, nothing. No show, no call, no text. Stay away from these unreliable people and they're uncaring attitude.

He set up an appointment to meet with us right away and sent over a very professional, detailed quote the same day. He got us on his schedule quickly and completed the job to absolute perfection. Five years ago we had carpet installed and were left with an annoying gap between the carpet and the baseboard. It drove me crazy! Carl not only handled the installation beautifully, but he also made sure the new padding was thick enough to eliminate that gap entirely. A problem that bothered me for five years - gone in one day thanks to Carl. Fast, professional, detail-oriented, and genuinely thoughtful. We couldn't recommend him more!

We will not be working with Better Call Carl again. Last November, we hired him to perform a…read more"bathroom refresh". Hooked us in with a great price and great initial communication. On the first day on the renovation, we went through all the details of changes we wanted to make with his team. Somehow, these details never came to fruition. They did a great job with the drywall, painting, and tub installation - however, their tile work in the shower is subpar (the tiles were placed crooked and we had to go in to regrout ourselves). We previously had plumbing work done, so the cabinetry underneath the vanity had to be replaced. Better Call Carl figured the best way to do this was to just patchwork plywood (we went back ourselves to fix). He also didn't see the need for continuous baseboards (see photo). The biggest problem we have is with the floors - we also had terrazzo floor tiles placed and confirmed with the team prior to starting that there were enough tiles to complete the project. The floor is not up to industry standard nor ADA requirements. The grout lines are all different sizes and the actual tiles are not level, resulting in a trip hazard. There are also tiles that have been chipped both during and after installation. We reached out to Better Call Carl after work was complete to see if he could replace the floor - he was reluctant to come back, but he did end up replacing two tiles (out of 21). Even after the second round, the floor is a little more level, but nowhere near the standard or expectation. There are still chipped tiles, uneven grout lines, and tiles that are not level. We will be buying new tiles and having the floor redone, so we asked for a partial refund (for just the work on the floor), which was denied. We then tried to see if there was any other resolution we could agree on since Better Call Carl claims he has a one-year warranty. He refused to uphold his warranty. We'll be going with another professional from here on and would not recommend Better Call Carl to anyone.

Over the years we've had many quotes to clear our property…read more We've been told time and again that our trees held no value and the cost was just outrageous to have them removed A friend referred us to Shepherd's after a tree fell over very close to our house and had we met with Shepherds sooner, we would have done this years ago. We found out that many of the trees were infected with a fungus and rotting inside. Richard was honest, and upfront from day one and we hired him right away. The accuracy and experience demonstrated while they cleared nearly all of our trees in a matter of a few days left a huge impression on us as well as their professional and friendly demeanor. These are hardworking and upstanding men. We will have them back for future projects and highly recommend them.
