Lately though we have been increasingly disappointed. In an apparent search for effeciency, customer service is slipping. Case in point, their new automated service notification system that supposedly provides you information on when to expect a technician to arrive. We have a service contract and a tech was supposed to come out to inspect the system to make sure all was working well. First, sometime today is not helpful. We have busy lives and other companies at least give you a reasonable window. Second, when we were finally provided an arrival time (between 12:30 and 1:30) and confirmed it, we waited for over 2 hours after that and never got an update or saw a technician. Texts to the automated system generated a form response that the tech was delayed...obvious and not helpful...maybe provide a revised ETA? Third, we finally called the office and canceled the appointment (it was about 4) and said we'd call back to reschedule. No apologies for the inconvenience...nothing. I am hesitant to reschedule and risk a replay of a wasted day due to questionable customer service. Last winter we had techs come out under the service contract to do the annual check up of the heating system. When we asked the technicians to show us the proper way to drain the boiler, they didn't know. Go back to a people run and focused approach. That was why we stuck with Davis so long in the first place.

He also said one of the compressors sounded like it might be going. We decided I needed a new system. The quote he gave me for a 4 ton heat pump was over $21,000!!! I called a second company and told them of the issues. The second technician wanted to diagnose my current system before quoting a price on a new one. He got the system running with NO NEW PARTS. The cost of the visit was $109.00. I would never recommend Davis to anyone.

They double-checked my troubleshooting and came to the same conclusion, that my thermostat was bad. They quickly replaced it and didn't charge me an exorbitant price. I called numerous appliance repair companies within an hour from us and was unable to connect with anyone available to assist. I then called Carter's Heating & Cooling, who put in our HVAC when we built 10 years ago here at the lake. It turns out they also ran the propane line to the house. Greg Carter was very responsive, and Jamie came out first thing the next morning. After doing an initial check of things, he disassembled the cooktop and found the leak at the regulator. Interestingly, we had a local appliance repair out here in 2019 when we smelled propane at the cooktop. While I don't know if they ever corrected the issue or not, Carters did! I have always been impressed with Carter's and highly recommend them if you want things done right.

Since going into business by himself he has continued to provide great service. Just this spring my 30+ year old heat pump and air handler bit the dust. JD came out found out what the problem was and discussed the problem and options I had to get my air back on. Weighing all my options I decided to have a new system put in. JD took his time to measure everything and find me an affordable new system that would work with my existing setup. He didn't try to up sell me anything and was open and honest about the whole process. There was a problem that arose when he started the install. He had to locate a much needed item that the manufacturer of the new unit neglected to provide. While he tracked down the part needed he kept me informed of what was going on. There were a few other problems that came up with the install but JD took his time and got everything up and running before this heat wave began. He went above and beyond what anyone else would have done to get the job done right He made sure everything was working and running properly before leaving for the day. He is just getting started out on his own but you shouldn't hesitate to give him a call if you have any heating and air problems.

They never called or showed up (Not very professional). That's really sad because they put in our upstairs unit in 2023 and also placed a unit in our Amherst family home just prior to that. They really did a nice job with those two units. It's really sad that we have to go elsewhere now. The previous experiences were great.

I have used Cardinal Mechanical Services a number of times including replacing an old hot water…read moreheater and some well work. In every case they have responded promptly (that, in and of itself is unique) and their work is excellent. Most recently the water heater they installed started leaking after about 5 years. It was leaking internally and through no fault of the installation. I contacted Cardinal to ask about the warranty and was told it was still in effect. According to the manufacturer the warranty only covered the cost of replacing a faulty heater. After the new one was installed Keith told me that there was no labor cost as well and that a new water heater should not have had any problems this early on. That was completely unexpected. They are truly a rarity in today's world.
