But a great plumber is only good if you can get a response from them. I've been dealing with him for several years now. Consistently I've had to message repeatedly, call repeatedly. On occasion - as the first time I contacted him probably in 2023 - he answers the phone himself, and provides info on what he thinks the problem is. And he does phenomenal work. After a few years of being a good customer, patient, paying on time, never objecting to pricing, I **STILL** cannot get a response from him. One issue is that he's a one man show. It's him, or no one. His wife is lovely and accompanies him at times. Very knowledgeable herself. About 4 weeks ago I initiated contact and he responded immediately via text. Great, I thought. Then nothing. After a few more messages checking in, he said there was a family medical situation. I gave him space, and here we are two weeks and yet another text message to him later, and nothing. Nada. And still a leaking well tank. C'mon. Do better. We are done, hope you sort yourself out with other customers - I've seen several other people have had the same experience.

Every time I said I wanted to do something the price went up even though I was only reinforcing what I wanted before they even quoted. Guess they didn't understand the word custom. We wanted Contractors ideas and the wow factor but even though they all said they had designers no such effort came forth in the quote. Since I had to pick everything out myself and did all the legwork i decided to "be my own Contractor sourcing my own materials and SubContractors. I searched far and wide for materials and saved myself $15k. Next I had to locate subcontractors to do the work. I found "Straight-line Painting and Tile" who did tiling, painting, heated flooring, and carpentry work. Plumbing was "Faith Plumbing", Shower Glass install was "Toler insulating", and electrical was "Wired Up Electrical". and the Ambrosia Maple hardwood was sourced from Danny Hylton in Goode. I even sourced the exact tub new on Craigs list (NC) for $1,000 saving from a local quote. This group worked extremely well together to complete the project and saved me $10-$15,000 in contractor project management which i could than apply to more upgrades. On top of all this I installed a top of the line schluter heated floor, curbless shower, and lifetime warranty rubber sealed system which was critical for the Thermasol steam shower and digital control system with touch control shower valve system. All the other contractor wanted to put in a standard rubber shower stall unit and I wasn't confident it could handle the steam unit. Doing it myself covered the extra $5k to put in the a schluter system. Wiring included fixtures, wiring for all new electronics, heated floor, and new fan with UV 24/7 mold and bacteria killing system. Plumbing included Toto bidet toilet with heated seat, pre cleaning, auto flush, and carbon air purifier and the Thermasol steam and digital shower unit. Straight line tile is a Tile Installer Perfectionist". Toler glass shower installer said he has never seen such a level floor system. Within 1/16" which is unheard of. Straight-lines expertise was critical in helping me to schedule each of the subcontractors work to keep the project moving. I pretty much did all this work on a time and material basis knowing that errors would need to be corrected or that unexpected issues would need to be paid for. The other option would be hard quote with built in rework cost for unknowns that may not even happen. Doing the Project Management work myself saved me $10-$15k for unknown so I didn't have to cherry pick what the subcontractors were billing me. I found each of these contractors to be extremely fair and reasonable with their charges. Toler Insulating charged me 1/2 the quoted price on the 3/8 shower glass unit and install than what I could purchase the same unit for on the internet without installation. Wasn't expecting that Benny and definitely a place Contractors will use to beef up their quotes. I would highly recommend any of these subs to handle your custom bath remodel. The master bath is equally as impressive but I didn't have "before" pictures to show and it included heated floor units. Just thought I would share as my experience was great with these guys and we ultimately got the WOW factor we were looking for. The bottom line is I used some of the $25k saving to get the latest and greatest custom features and these sub contractors are experienced on how to install the latest and greatest systems.

Lately though we have been increasingly disappointed. In an apparent search for effeciency, customer service is slipping. Case in point, their new automated service notification system that supposedly provides you information on when to expect a technician to arrive. We have a service contract and a tech was supposed to come out to inspect the system to make sure all was working well. First, sometime today is not helpful. We have busy lives and other companies at least give you a reasonable window. Second, when we were finally provided an arrival time (between 12:30 and 1:30) and confirmed it, we waited for over 2 hours after that and never got an update or saw a technician. Texts to the automated system generated a form response that the tech was delayed...obvious and not helpful...maybe provide a revised ETA? Third, we finally called the office and canceled the appointment (it was about 4) and said we'd call back to reschedule. No apologies for the inconvenience...nothing. I am hesitant to reschedule and risk a replay of a wasted day due to questionable customer service. Last winter we had techs come out under the service contract to do the annual check up of the heating system. When we asked the technicians to show us the proper way to drain the boiler, they didn't know. Go back to a people run and focused approach. That was why we stuck with Davis so long in the first place.

He also said one of the compressors sounded like it might be going. We decided I needed a new system. The quote he gave me for a 4 ton heat pump was over $21,000!!! I called a second company and told them of the issues. The second technician wanted to diagnose my current system before quoting a price on a new one. He got the system running with NO NEW PARTS. The cost of the visit was $109.00. I would never recommend Davis to anyone.
