The service folks are great, milkshakes are equally as great, but what isnt so great would be the old food they served us last night. Everything was hard as a brick, both burgers & the hush puppies. The cookout style burger I ordered was disgusting, it's usually good, but I guess someone was feeling lazy. There was no chili on it & Im pretty sure they tried to hide that fact by adding more slaw. Anyway, my advice is to go before 9pm. If you don't, you're risking a major 4am blowout. It's Beckley, Im sure most are stopped up, so I suggest Cookout after 9 if you need a colon cleanse. This location has great service. We arrived on a Wednesday evening and we were in and out in drive thru. We ordered their burger plate with fries and cheese bites. Along with BBQ sandwich plate with Fries and Onion rings. Cheese bites were killer. I hear their shakes are a must have. Order a shake if you can. They looked incredible. read more

The burgers are well priced and well worth it, you can customize with all kinds of ingredients (more than I am willing to name here) and the quality.... So good. Stopped here twice once on our way to Myrtle Beach and once on our way back from MB. Both times the service and food were great! On the first stop, I got the Western burger. On the second stop, I got a bacon and cheese dog. The Western burger was tasty! I like the fact that they do not skimp on the toppings. The bacon was crisp and the onions w were plentiful. The fries were decent and hot. I wish I would've known on my first visit to try the Cook Out sauce, but I didn't get introduced to it until we made it to MB. If I admit that I'm into boys rather than girls, then when I cook, I'll get to cook Out rather than cooking In, but that's another story for another day. Cook out is probably my favorite fast food chain in the world. You can only find it down in North Carolina and in a few States close to North Carolina. This is one of the few locations that have recently opened up in West Virginia. It's an absolutely fantastic place to get a meal and I love it. This particular location like many of the ones outside North Carolina did not have as delicious of a burger and cajun chicken sandwich as I am used to. The decor and method of cooking seem to be different in the non North Carolina restaurants. What hasn't changed is that the banana shake and sweet tea are still really good. But the sandwiches don't have that backyard real flavor, and the large lobbies with lots of seating are nothing like the ones in Carolina, where there is nowhere to sit except outside in your car. They will make any combination of shake that you want! OK, so I am a Cook Out fan. Despite living in Wisconsin, I have now eaten at Cook Outs in 5 different states. I am always impressed that the people who work there get our rather complex orders correct every time. And as a giant fan of lowbrow fast food, the fact that I can feed everyone in my family as much as they can eat, and upgrade everyone to a shake for tons less than it would cost at Culvers is a huge bonus. Oh, and here? Menu item that I had never tried before were the cheese fries. Outstanding! Oh, and don't sleep on the chicken quesadilla. Peanut Butter Fudge shake is my go to. My first time eating at a cook out. Probably my LAST time as well. I ordered the cheddar double burger with onion rings and slaw. I got FOUR onion rings and a burger that looks like it belongs on the kids menu! My wife ordered pulled pork platter with fries and she got a cup of pork and a handful of fries. This place might be good if you're a drunk or stoned college kid, but not for a sober family! read more

Quite possibly the largest cookout I've ever been too.. I don't even know what this place was before it was cookout but I'm glad cookout is here now. We were up here in WV for a trip and saw the cookout on the way to the hotel and knew we had to stop in. We returned the next night and were greeted by a wonderful staff who took our order. We were a large order and it was relatively late for the area but they didn't seem angry at all that we all stopped in. Food was perfect and on time. They messed one order up but we caught in the counter and they simply just brought out the corrected item to our table very quickly. Cookout is the spot for fast food. Cleanest cookout I've ever laid foot in! Also....maybe the only cookout I've ever been inside, but that's neither here nor there. This Cookout reminded me of Zaxbys in terms of seating and overall layout of the restaurant, but perhaps even more spacious. Obviously the go-to at any Cookout is the tray! If you don't know this, well, I can't help you. I don't typically eat fast food, but when out with friends on the weekends it occasionally happens, and somehow, they always want to go to Cookout. I give them 3.5. Cheap eats can't be beat. The chili and burger were good. I was told the grilled chicken sandwich, hush puppies, and onion rings were good too. For $4.99, I expected substandard ingredients when getting a sandwich for an entree, 2 substantial sides, and a beverage....a milkshake can be substituted for at an extra cost. The nilla wafers, banana, chicken, cheese, and beef was real and plentiful. I requested grilled onions instead of raw onions and my burger was overflowing with the bulb vegetable. They even toast the buns. You can customize your burger how you want, but they charge for cheese, bacon, chili, cole slaw, and I think tomato, or you could have your hamburger, grilled chicken sandwich, or hot dog their signature way. They "hollar" (West Virginia talk) your number out and you retrieve your order in an area close to the counter and soda fountains. The food is prepared quickly and comes tin foil, wrapping paper, or a styrofoam cup and all of that is strategically placed in a styrofoam container. The ordering selection process is similar to how Five Guys takes orders, which is only less than half a mile away. I have a bad feeling and so should other burger joints in the immediate vicinity.....how long will Five Guys, Arby's, Wendy's, and etc. be around now that there is a less expensive and value packed option in town? Time will tell, the Ryan's Buffet next door closed permanently within a week or less of Cook Out's grand opening. Cook Out is the Southeastern states' equivalent of In-N-Out Burger. This location opened about 2 weeks ago and has been constantly busy. I was told it is opened everyday from 10:30am until 3am. That's some long late hours for this small mountain town. The restaurant is clean, parking can be slightly challenging, lines move quickly, and the value can't be beat. I would most likely go again to try some other things. read more

Delicious food! Amazing! And affordable. They're also open until 4 am, so it's a great place for late night studying or a midnight snack. Their hotdogs (with chili and slaw) are my favorite, as well as their chicken nuggets. The burgers are good, I just wish they cut the onions thicker so it's not like a tangle of onion hair that comes off in a single bite. I'm not giving it five stars because I just found out that they're milkshakes, aren't milkshakes!!!!! It's just ice cream! No wonder you can never get it through a straw. The food was terrible...bar b que tasted like mush! Didn't even tell it was barbecue didn't even have barbecue sauce on it I think it was poured pulled pork made with a food processor. The chili cheese fries that chili look like it and being ran through a wringer achieve was like cheese whiz the only redeeming Factor about the meal with the Coca-Cola is calibrated correctly I would not advise anyone to go eat there. I made the mistake of ordering the barbeque. This restaurant takes perfectly good meat and chops it to the consistency of sawdust. It's unlikely that anyone who likes traditional pulled pork barbeque will enjoy this awful stuff. I believe they probably chop it finely so they can scoop it out of a big container and dump it on a bun quickly to facilitate their fairly quick customer service. While they may call it North Carolina style barbeque, it certainly has nothing in common with what is served at the well known Lexington Barbeque in North Carolina. There is so much noise in the ordering area that the customer and counter employee can barely hear each other. In my opinion, this problem is due to incompetence in the design of the restaurant. They're obviously very pushy with their religious beliefs. Biblical scripture is printed on food wrappers. Christian music is played continuously throughout the building. I assume it's part of their marketing strategy, comparable to Chick-Fil-A's. I've tried for about 10 days to reach someone at their corporate customer relations department, but have only reached a recorded message instructing me to leave a message. I have yet to have my calls returned. I do intend to go back to this Cook Out to try their hamburgers. I'm not optimistic. read more

I've ate here in the past and it wasn't very good. My review is for how my son was treated when he came to interview for a job. He had his interview and was told to come back to pick up the paperwork the following week. He went back and was told the paperwork had not come in yet and to come back two days later. He went back and was told the same thing. And again he went back and was told the same thing.
