I honestly thought it was the worst case scenario in my mind and we met with the Dr. Jason Long typically vets will take advantage of a dog parent worried and emotional and run all of the tests, X-rays, etc. He could smell the urine on her and suggested the conservative approach suggesting her having a UTI (based on the smell & how she was presenting) and noted a double ear infection. They cleaned her ears out, did drops and sent us with an antibiotic for the UTI. I couldn't be happier with my experience with River West. Thank you so much to Dr Long and front desk staff for being compassionate and empathetic to me being a wreck and for helping Remy.

My regular vet referred me to them after my 7 year old rescue Lab/Coonhound was diagnosed with a malignant mast cell tumor. It was excised by my regular vet but she couldn't get clear margins due to location. It was either this approach or a veterinary oncologist. It was a five week wait for an appointment and you had to secure the date with a credit card deposit that was later applied to the bill as credit. TWP makes you feel calm & welcome from the start. I am familiar with eastern medicine so I didn't have a lot of questions but they answered all I did have completely. Dr. Tartof was professional, attentive, thorough and kind as well as was the vet tech. We came home with lots to read and look up as well as with supplements, a salve and a suggested new diet. The facility is clean, bright and cheerful with plenty of free parking in the lot. I hope this approach will allow our beloved dog to have much more quality time to enjoy life with us. If you are considering a new approach to your pet's healthcare I would highly recommend scheduling a consultation here.

I had a question about a current issue, and contacted her to see if she had any input. She suggested we go to a specialty clinic to rule out certain things before going there for a consult. Specialty clinic solved my dog's issue and sent the summary to Dr. Tartof. I then received the message that if I wanted her input on supplements, to make an appointment for consultation. Wanting the best for my dog, I did that. I wish we had never gone. I learned nothing that I didn't already know. I was, however, told that I should start him on Saw Palmetto in addition to the Finasteride that our specialty clinic had prescribed to him not 3 weeks prior. When I asked if it made sense to start him on something before our recheck ultrasound at specialty clinic (scheduled for 2 months from now), she looked me straight in the eye and said yes, because the Finasteride might not be enough. Keeping in mind that whatever he is on, he will have to be on for the rest of his life (hoping for another 10 years!). l asked the pharmacist, specialty clinic, and researched online. EVERY article and every person I spoke with confirmed that it is NOT advisable to take both of these medications at the same time. Not for humans or for dogs. The meds work the exact same way, and can interact with each other, and also skew results. They can also cause dangerously low levels of DHT. It should have never been prescribed to us. Too, the Saw Palmetto they sold us could only be purchased from them, and would cost $76 every 44 days, and my having to drive 20 miles each way to get it. Compare that with the legitimate medication prescribed by specialty vet, costing us $10.99 for 60 days, pickup at our local pharmacy. I would LOVE to be proven wrong here, but the only conclusion I can come to is that my dog's health was put at risk due to this clinic trying to pad their pocketbooks. We spent over $800 on things I really didn't feel were necessary for a healthy dog. I try and give benefit of the doubt. Thankfully I did my research before giving the Saw Palmetto to my dog. I told Dr. Tartof I didn't think it made sense for him to take this, and would like to return it. She advised me to definitely hold on to it. When I emphasized that I wanted to return it, I was told I would have to speak with the office administrator. Office Administrator agreed that I could bring it back for credit on my account. Since we never plan to go there again, I requested a refund. These meds should never have been prescribed to us. I drove back over there today to return the unopened untouched Saw Palmetto. Expecting a refund of my $76 plus $5.04 sales tax, I was instead given a return of $63.01 plus $5.04 sales tax. They tell me they are withholding $12.99 as a dispensing fee (which was not itemized on my original invoice) and also claim that they somehow undercharged me an addition $0.02 on the prior invoice. I left with a $68.05 refund to my credit card. I definitely do not recommend anyone to take their pets here. I hate to say it. I hate to admit what happened to me. I normally would not have posted something online at all. However, my experience might help someone else make better decisions with their own pets.

They TRIED, TRIED to put a catheter, so they ended poking hole in here bladder to drain. When I picked her up, her vaginal area was swollen so bad, she was in so much pain!!! Told me that she had stones and one was block! (Well how long were you trying to torture her) She already had an appointment on Monday for surgery. I brought her home, made her comfortable as possible. Sunday morning came, I had to bring her again (almost $1900.00 bucks) They kept her til 11:00 pm another ($640.00). Drugged her up to make it to Monday morning (that didn't last....3 hrs only) So got her to her appointment on Monday. They took xrays (perfectly clear shots) and blood work....she didn't have a stone blocked AT ALL, she had kidney and liver failure due to lung cancer!!!! Even thou St. Charles Vet took xrays (ONLY HALF HER BODY) and blood work they couldn't see an underlying issue! I had to put my baby down for all these miss diagnosis. She was tortured basically. The sad part is that they won't take accountabilty after numerous calls I have made to them, blaming everyone else. They just took the money and see ya later. Now St. Charles got the xrays and say she didn't have cancer! Yeah right I saw the xray. I will never bring another pet to St. Charles Vet or Giller Animal Hospital ever agian. VCA will be first recommended. The thing is I ain't no vet, I had to take their word and man was I wrong. I miss my dog. All they said was "sorry for your loss"

Dr. Weidner was our savior! He is so conscientious and caring. Over the years this condition had become very hard to treat, and our cat, being semi-feral, was hard to give medication to. Dr. Weidner tried to give us as many options as possible, but was honest in his opinion of what might work or might not work. The prices are reasonable and there was NEVER any pressure to do high-priced invasive tests or procedures. In the end, he helped give our cat the best life she could have, right up to the very end. Her breathing became very difficult, and she had a stroke. We called and they made room for us that day, which I'm sure wasn't easy. Dr. Weidner also made a point to be the one who helped us on this last day since he had been the one we saw all along. All the staff is knowledgable, and gentle. The hours are great as well - open most evenings making it easy to pick up medications or fit in an injection. Moving forward, since Dr. Antaal did not do the proper diagnosis! My princess was euthanized for how sick she was. She was not even 10! It's been almost a week in a half before I called them to let them know, you think if you had an appointment, see you in 10 days. I didn't even get a call from them that it was past 10 days, you need to bring her in. When I called Dr. Antaal he was very RUDE like always!!!! They never want to take accountabilty, I'm not a vet, but for him to miss Diagnosis her was unacceptable! If he would have taken the ACTIONS to properly do is job, she could have passed not suffering. SHE HAD CANCER AND KIDNEY failure! He blames everyone but himself.
