We call a local vet referred to us by a family member who lives in the area. The young receptionist provides very little information other than take her to urgent care. Ugh. She looked up our records, and suggested a probiotic to help settle our pups stomach. A few days later our pup was back to normal. Really appreciate our vets advice. They gave my 17 year old chihuahua dog a rabies shot a Doctor Who I've trusted for years guiltEd me into getting it - he had 2 teeth left and was the most docile 8 lb little guy. he died today 2 weeks later - I will never go back to this vet again when it was time for him to pass, they put us in an exam room didn't even give my son a chair. It was a very cold experience I barely got into the exam room with and the was already in there, asking me for my credit card information. We moved to the area recently and took our corgi there for a check-up and to get his nails trimmed from time to time. They have been excellent in keeping him calm and getting the trim done quickly. This is not a review of their nail trimming abilities. This is a review of their all-encompassing compassion and fantastic customer service abilities in one of the worst times of my life in recent memory. Our cat, Zeke, was exhibiting some signs of being sick earlier in the week by not eating his food or drinking water. On Tuesday before work, he started wobbling when he walked and collapsed. I grabbed him and rushed him over to EVS St. Charles but they were about to close. I was panicking at that point so I drove over to Valley and begged them to please take him in because I didn't think he was going to make it through the day. He was a new patient so while I was waiting for a tech to come get him, they took his information and tried to talk me down. I thanked them profusely and left him in their care until the doctor came in and was able to evaluate him. I got a call a few hours later from Dr. Christakos with terrible news. Zeke had renal failure and his levels were so high that they wouldn't even register on their machine. She recommended that we give him IV fluids and monitor his progress throughout the day. If he needed more observation, we would take him to EVS for an overnight stay. Needless to say, he did not get that much better so we carted him to EVS for an overnight. He showed some improvement by drinking water by himself and using his box, so we took him back to Valley for another day of fluids and trying to get him to eat. Dr. Humphrey called me a little bit after I dropped him off and told me that she was worried about him and recommended one more night of observation and fluids. When we went to pick him up at the end of the day to take him back to EVS, he seemed more alert and we thought that he had a chance. Unfortunately, he had one more overnight stay before we had to say goodbye. I don't know what I would have done if it wasn't for the team at Valley being so patient, kind, and considerate. We've had nothing but bad luck with vets in the past (most of them just did not care and only wanted money) but Valley is really there for both the human and the animal. I am so proud to have them as our vet of choice and I would recommend them to anyone for any pet you have, at any stage of life. I used to live much closer to the clinic, but when I moved, I refused to find a new vet clinic as I already had the best. We moved recently and our new vet was shocked to learn that our 4 year old hunting breed was NEVER tested at Valley Animal for Lyme disease as part of our dog's annual exam. We now know that our dog has it (due to the new vet's testing) but no idea if it's a new or old infection. Long term effect of untreated Lyme disease can be kidney failure, which was the cause of death for our last hunting breed. Valley Animal was the only vet that had ever cared for him. Coincidence? Took my dog for anal gland expression with vet tech. Tech said not much came out which I thought was odd. Their receptionist was rude so I sent an email letting practice know and in the subject line I put "witch" receptionist , with a B. I called back to bring dog back the next day because she was worse than ever licking her butt. The practice called said I was not welcome and had to part ways since I used that one word. Took my dog to another vet who had to express anal glands and they were also infected. Had to pay $167.00 and I was not refunded for not getting them done at Valley. Could not get my dog in for 2 days later to other vet. I had been going to Valley Animal for over 20 years with my dogs. read more

Worth the drive!! Dr. Christakos is so compassionate! We had just moved to the Aurora/Naperville area from the East Coast in 2018 with a cat who had terminal cancer. My friend who used to live in Geneva raved and raved about how amazing Valley Amimal Hospital was, and her family that still lived there continued to use them. I set up an appointment as soon as I could because I had no idea what to expect from my beloved cat who had just gone through palliative radiation treatment right before our move. Dr. Christakos was who we were given an appointment with, and I immediately knew she was a wonderful and caring veterinarian and person. She never judged me for my and my family's anticipatory grief (she actually sent me some very helpful links, even after Stewie passed on 9 or so months later because I was still very sad and never lost one of my pets in this way). I called her and brought Stewie in several times over his last 9 months and even after he passed away at home the night before we had planned to put him down. I spoke to a different vet at Valley the weekend Stewie clearly wasn't bouncing back from the monthly steroid and antibiotic injections and she instructed us to increase his pain med dosage so he was more comfortable. It was a very difficult time for our family and my young kids, and of course Stewie. I am so grateful we decided to take him there for his last few months. Truth be told, it was a long drive (about a half hour) from our new home, but I had driven even longer to our previous vet in the NYC area. We have now adopted a new kitten and I wanted to also take her there, but unfortunately she presented with a medical issue as soon as we brought her home. The Naperville Humane Society where we adopted her from gave us a list of 3 vets they had contracts with and we didn't have to pay for her care. She turned out fine (she had blood in her urine and I finally realized she had no idea how to drink from a water bowl....so I bought her a water fountain and that did the trick!) So, at this point, I've been taking her somewhere more local, but I really do want to go back to Valley if I can swing the drive now that I'm home with my kids remote learning. If I was working, it may not be so easy. So, I'm going to play it by ear for now, especially since our kitten...almost cat! thankfully has remained healthy. read more

While I've been bringing my dog here for many years, these last few months have been agonizing because I had been waiting since April for them to see him because of the seizures. I got an appointment in early June, but when I got there he was being fussy and it took me a while to get into the clinic. They dismissed me like trash because I was 3 minutes past their deadline; they said they tried to call me which is true because I heard my phone ring, but I'm half paralyzed so I couldn't let go of the leash to answer the phone. The response I received was that I should have left my house sooner and there was nothing they could do. As livid as I was, I said okay and left because I wanted to scream; after 2 months of waiting while my buddy is suffering was inexcusable and I will never go back. My pup was due for her shots and I had heard good things about Valley Animal Hospital from my in-laws. I made an appointment over the phone and came in the same week. Gotta love the animal madness! When I checked in, I had a small wait before seeing Dr. Christakos. She and her staff were wonderful. My dog was all sweetness, even during her shots. Such a ditz! I had come in with a request for all of her necessary shots heart worm preventative and tick control. I wasn't aware, though, of the two extra visits that I had to make in the coming weeks after her initial visit. A bit of a bummer when you're pressed for time, but worth it for my pup. We started off really liked this vet and had been going to them for over 3 years. My dog developed a lump under his skin and even though we kept bringing him in because we didn't feel something was right, they assured us that it was nothing, just a cyst, and that we didn't need to do a biopsy. Flash forward a year and turns out it was a cancerous tumor the whole time and has now spread. Please trust your instincts and beware of people trying to make a quick buck on a vet visits. Truly heads and tails above the rest! This practice has it all - fresh technology, excellent doctors and fine staff. They are very accommodating as to appointments and provide spot-on diagnoses. Dr. Juriga has done a fine job assembling a wonderful team of animal professionals. I have been most impressed, however, with their compassion. This year, I lost my two cats only four months apart, and was, understandably, distraught. Dr. Christakos took care of both animals and did all possible to save them. My little ones could not be saved, but the empathy from Dr. Christakos and the staff went far to mitigate my grief. In their earlier years, both my cats also saw Dr. Maloney, who, too was just wonderful. The office staff and vet techs are uniformly kind and efficient. And the resident cat, Cheeto, always makes me smile. He's a fine-looking orange tabby who serves as the resident goodwill embassador/welcome wagon. Last, I've found that Valley is more affordable than other practices in our area. Always a plus, especially for those with multiple pets. read more

I've taken my dogs to Valley for over 3 years to the same doctor and always had a good experience. Unfortunately, for the past year+ we have seen the same doctor multiple times/visits regarding a lump on our dogs back and while we thought it was being addressed, we are now realizing it was being ignored. Each time the doctor assured us it was a cyst and that testing it was risky. We were advised the best thing to do was to keep an eye on the size and leave it. A few months later at our February annual exam, I asked about it again. The size hadn't changed but I still felt like something wasn't right. This time the same doctor acted completely different and as though this was the first time seeing it. She seemed sidetracked/not herself and asked if I was aware of the lump. Aware of it... of course I am! Why else would I bring my dog in every few months to have HER assess it?! After months of being told that it was nothing to worry about, she now said "we can probably remove it now" and gave me an estimate. I left the appointment upset which prompted me to seek multiple second opinions elsewhere. After consulting with 3 vet practices elsewhere, they all confirmed it was a tumor, not a cyst. Just like us, they wondered why the original vet didn't take this more seriously by aspirating it and looking at it under a microscope. It took all but 5 minutes for the other vets to do this and diagnose it yet the doctor at Valley would never do it. In fact, we weren't given the option. We have since had the tumor removed by a specialist elsewhere and hoping that the time wasted at Valley hasn't caused more issues. This review is to warn pet owners to trust your instincts. We thought we were receiving good care from Valley but we weren't. Since switching to a different vet practice, we now realize how terrible the care was and feel so guilty as pet owners for trusting Valley. The five star reviews, that we once contributed to, are no longer adding up. This practice has changed over the years and we are so glad we left when we did. read more

We had taken our dog to a closer Vet upon moving here and their service was less than impressive (several times) than what we recieved today, so I'm happy we switched.
