Very amazing and welcoming hosts who got us seated right away. We got an inside seating and the AC inside was very refreshing to say the least.They were very kind in responding to our emails as well and were very very accommodating. Jairo was amazing and was our host for the noon. He got our orders evenly spaced out and as well kept checking on our needs and as well replaced our plates and silverware in the midst to make sure we got to taste the prawns and the octopus afresh. We ordered only the starters as we were late into our lunch and had an early dinner scheduled for the evening. Every other table ordered a paella, so this place may be better if you are getting a paella, but my scallops were a challenge to swallow. They didn't have any seasoning or dressing and the texture was almost a slight granular consistency, as if they had small pieces of sand in them. My friend, who loves seafood, wanted to try this place which left me with little options as I am not a seafood person. Decided to try the Veal Entrecotte with mustard sauce and it was phenomenal. I am a picky eater so I cut off most of the fat, but it had amazing flavor, cooked to what I asked for, and the mustard sauce was a nice touch. Side note, the fries that came with this dish were a combination of red pepper fries, zucchini fries, and regular french fries, which was a pleasant surprise. This place was recommended by friends living in Barcelona. I'd give 6 stars if I could based on the food and the location itself. I will never be able to order calamari and fideua elsewhere because this place set the bar way too high. Calamari was thick O pieces with a light crispy batter and just a pinch of salt. Squeeze some lemon over the plate of perfectly battered and fried calamari and you got a winning appetizer. Forget any marinara or tarter sauce - this place will leave you asking why restaurants back home considered having these. We ordered the black ink fideua. The short pasta noodles reminded us of rice-a-roni but add that with the black ink and seafood flavor...heaven. I can never look at another fideua or paella-like dish the same way ever again. This place has legitimately ruined all future calamari and fideua experiences for me. I'm now on the search to find a fideua place at home that can temporarily satisfy me until we return. read more

I booked a reservation to get the coveted outdoor seating, and I had pretty good first impressions of this place. The paella here is pretty hyped up, and I feel it is just way too overhyped. It was pretty delicious, but not up to my standards at all. The shrimp is a bit stale as it was mushy, but the other seafood were very fresh. For €24/person, I expected significantly more, especially since I could easily eat something else for dinner for around that price total. That is not to say the other food is bad. The sangria is definitely very good and complements well with the seafood. I personally think that cava is to tapas as sangria is to seafood, but your mileage may vary. Regardless, the sangria sort of made up for the mediocre seafood in the paella. The Crema Catalan was also amazing; it is just not as buttery or creamy as the creme brûlée, but I can't really say it's not good just because this is my first time eating it. On days that aren't raining or too cold, I definitely suggest sitting outside for the full Barceloneta experience! My boyfriend and I came to Can Majo for lunch in December, and got a table inside. We didn't know of the outside seating option until after we were done with the meal but otherwise it would've made for a great people-watching Barceloneta experience! This place opens at 1pm for lunch, and it starts getting busy closer to 2pm. We opted for the fiduea as our waiter had recommended, and it was AMAZING!! The rice crust was made to perfection! One of my favorite meals in Barcelona! First of all, I loved the location. We sat outside of course. We didn't come on a busy night and closer to closing so were seated immediately. Service was really good! It's been two months since our visit so I do not have a clear recollection of everything we ordered, but I do remember we started with the calamari and a salad. We came of course for the paella which is supposed to be some of the best in the city from what I could find. The flavor was spot on but it was more al dente than what I'm used to.. I'm definitely not deducting for that since I have a sneaking suspicion that is how it is traditionally made rather than what I am used to in the states. The tomato bread was cold. The fried squid was OK. The fideua with seafood (only shrimp and mussels) was fair. The service is so rushed that it takes away from the dining experience. I came here on a recommendation I read on Reddit about the best Paella in Barcelona. I had Paella 6 times in my week long stay (that was a great week and I could not get enough of it), and it was the 2nd best (my unrefined palette preferred one from a touristy side-spot restaurant on the Rambla... So take it as you will). I got there 10 minutes prior to closing for mid-day (I hate being that customer; I apologize!) and when I arrived I saw this cute little tent across the street from the actual restaurant where people were seated. I walked into the restaurant and they told me to wait by the tent instead. Eventually I was approached, asked if I had a reservation to which I said I didn't, and then they asked is it just me? I said yes... After a puzzled look at me and my current disheveled self (after a long day of tourism) she said she'll get me a spot. I sit down, and it registers why I got that look walking in with shorts and a baggy t-shirt and a book bag... It's a bit fancier than it appears. Everyone there seemed to be on a business meeting or on a date. Well dressed... Didn't deter me as I was there for the Paella but I did catch more than a look or two. Someone even got proposed to there while I was eating (she said yes) so maybe dress nicer than I did if you want to avoid any looks. I order the black Paella which at first glance says only for-2 portion size is available. I asked if they offer a 1 size portion and they said they did but only when it's just 1 person dining like in my case. 2 people sitting would have to get a for-2 portion. Works for me. They bring the Paella out in the pan to show you how it looks and I noticed some people using this time as an opportunity to snap a picture or two for social media, before they take it away to bring it to you on a plate to eat from. I unfortunately did not take a before picture but got the one after.... For those wanting to post on social media grab that first picture as it's definitely more appealing. I came here since my friend recommended this place since it was the best paella she had while in Barcelona. It definitely was... Make a reservation for this place to ensure you can be seated. My step-dad and I made reservations for 10pm and when we go there, there was still a good amount of people dining in. Start off by ordering there Sangria, it's delicious and you're going to want to order more... For dinner, between my step dad and I, we ordered their Razor clams and their House special paella with lobster. They make their paella based on how many people are at the table and the waiter will serve you the paella to ensure everyone gets the same amount. You will pay per person, so the base price is 38 euros, multiply that by 2 and you're paying for a 76 euro paella. The paella had so much flavor in each bite and the lobster that came with it was honestly one of the best and most flavorful lobsters I've ever had. They definitely make a phenomenal paella here. I just wished they served more...so I could eat more of it. Highly recommend this place. It can be pricey as from two pitchers of Sangria, house special paella with lobster for 2, and razor clams came out to about 125 euros, that didn't include tip. But hey, if you're in barcelona for vacation...you're on vacation. Don't worry about money, enjoy your time here! read more

Almost a 5 star here. 95% of our time here was 5 star worthy. Best paella ever. They cook it right and the flavor is on point. Food is fresh and they were generous on pouring good wine. Service was great up until getting the check. I think we waited a solid 30-40 minutes after we finished dessert AND our wine AND asking for the check before getting up and bringing our card up to the front. Overall, I would recommend this place. Almost poisoned my son-without hyperbole. My son has a very severe allergy to cashews and pistachios-anaphylactic. As nonfluent Spanish speakers we asked the concierge, a native Spaniard, at our hotel to call the restaurant and ask them if they have cashews or pistachios in their kitchen. The restaurant assured the concierge that they do not have any cashews or pistachios in their kitchen. When we sat down we verified with our server that they do not have these nuts as well and we again assured they did not use these nuts on the premises. We decided to go try the paella and some other seafood dishes and all acceptable. Since the dessert were made in house we felt confident about the treenut free options and again inquired about tree nuts and again reassured about their absence. We ordered 3 desserts including their homemade cheesecake. When we received the desserts the cheesecake was topped with green nuts which appeared to be pistachios. We asked our server what was on the cheesecake and her English was poor and then spoke to the manager who confirmed the nuts were in fact pistachio. We were speechless and confused and felt disgusted and betrayed. We asked the manager and he apologized but couldn't provide us any explanation why tree nuts were sprinkled on our dessert despite our repeated inquiry and warnings about the treenut allergy. The only explanation we could infer from this 'error' is they simply lied to us to obtain our business. We take every precaution to safeguard our sons health and frequently double or triple check with our server and head chef etc given the severity of his treenut allergy. We have never experienced a similar situation or close call in all our 17 years with our son nor do we go out of our way to write negative reviews but needed to inform the public about this restaurants dubious ethics. read more

I got the lobster paella and it was good! However, wasn't the best paella I've ever had because the rice was slightly over cooked but the lobster was very juicy and amazing! Just came back from michelin-foodtown San Sebastian, and purposely ate here at Can Majó again, as our last meal in Barcelona and in Spain. Exactly what we wanted! The quality of food at Can Majó rivals SS places. Ordered the shellfish paella with fideua with alioli again. So good! This time ordered the baby octopus and the homemade foie gras as appetizers -- they were both incredible. Baby octopus drizzled with olive oil. The right amount of al dente and flavor. Homemade foie gras was probably the best foie gras I've had. This pate/mousse version was light, creamy, no hint of veins or of fat separation. Service is excellent; atmosphere on Barceloneta beach on a sunny day is also excellent. If I lived here, I would probably come here every week! read more

Although Barcelona isn't known for paella, every visitor to this coastal paradise wants to eat it at least once there, and in response, you will walk past hundreds of options throughout the city, in places not even remotely near the sea. Can Majo has a Michelin star, it is right on the beach, but not on the main drag Passeig de Joan Borbo, no matter since it has been around forever and is well known. Locals and tourists alike recommend it. Many places charge less than Can Majo, but you get what you pay for. In the cheaper scenario, this is mostly rice, heavily seasoned, with some mussels and shrimp and vegetable for color. Other places might make a respectable paella, but they can't turn out the volume that Can Majo does, open on Sunday no less, walk ins accommodated with an hour wait. (In June, anyway.) We got the lobster paella, and you get the tail, two shrimp and a langoustine, plus the rice is al dente, packed with mussels, clams, shrimp and calamari. It costs a bit, but it's entirely worth it. The rice has the soccarat, that nicely caramelized, crispy layer on the bottom that puts good paella over the top. If any dish illustrates cooking with love, it is this one. You can tell if the chef is having a bad day when you eat something that requires so much attention. A missed step is something missing if not a disaster. read more

Luckily for us, they had space right at opening so we took it and waited around the beach. The owner was RIDICULOUSLY NICE. She was this sweet little old lady and smiled at me and made small talk with my broken Spanish. With that being said, it goes without saying that everyone here was just as nice as the owner. Everyone was so willing to help us and make recommendations and we just felt so welcomed and happy. Food: Of course we had the paella, and that was DELICIOUS!!! For the 3 of us girls, we got a paella for two and it was totally enough for us 3. Sort of wish we had more, but it was just the right amount. The seafood here is SUPER FRESH, I mean you can see it when you're sitting inside, sitting in the cooler, straight out of the ocean. The paella itself was so soft and flavorful, the seafood was so tasty and succulent and delicious. There's really no way to describe it. It was sooooo good. Then, we had to get dessert and what else do you get but...FLAN. But oh no, this was not just some regular caramel flan you get at home...no no no. This was a TRIO of flans!! CHOCOLATE, STRAWBERRY, AND CARAMEL! Of course, my favorite was the chocolate, but the others were really good! I really liked the strawberry one just because it was different from what I've tried before. Moral of the story, come here. Try the paella. It's not completely out of your budget, I mean honestly you're getting charged the same amount as all the other places, but for food that MICHELIN RATED!! It's vicinity to the beach is close, the restaurant inside is beautiful, and also it's been a Michelin restaurant for the past 5 years! I've been here twice-- once when I visited the city during my study abroad time and with my group of friends during our first night in Barcelona. We ordered 3 pitchers of sangria at the table and you can definitely tell its homemade. For starters, my friend and I split the seafood croquette and it was perfectly fried and the inside wasn't too seafood-y. Now what's good about this restaurant is that they'll make paella based on how many people want it. All 11 of us wanted the same seafood paella which made it very easy for the chef. Our paella had the right amount of seafood! And what's really nice was that our waiter served us our paella so that everyone gets an even amount. Good 'clammy' flavor. 16 Euro -foie (pâté) served with regular toast. I thought it was good. Firm texture yet still smooth and spreadable. 14 Euro -regular paella...what we hoped would be good was ok. Overly oily and salty. 15 Euro per person. -Catalan custard, my first time trying this, was surprisingly good. Perfect sweetness but over Carmelites sugar. -strange flavored olives and pickles and crisp bottom/mushy top tomato bread..a mandatory 2 Euro we person -9 Euro bottle of Chardonnay Cava, a brand we had that we both loves from our first night in Barcelona (but this one is not Reserva, was pleasant. -81 Euro bill I don't think I would recommend...sorry. read more
