It is dark, moody, yet fun inside, the perfect spot to start your night at. The cocktails were great and creative. The food was delicious and flavorful. Here is what we ordered: - DADINHOS DE TAPIOCA: such a unique flavor and texture profile! -PASTEL DE PALMITO: the empanadas were just okay, but the green sauce was insane -BOLINHO DE BACALHAU: nice and crispy, yet not too heavy -TORRESMO: best thing we ordered! My friends and I came in for dinner on a Tuesday night, and despite it being a Tuesday, Cana was lively like it could have been a Friday evening. We really enjoyed the food here, which I'll detail below. -Dadinhos de tapioca: tapioca cubes filled with cheese and fried, with guava sauce on the side. I thought this was going to be more of a dessert dish, given the sweet guava sauce, but it does work as a dish that straddles the line between sweet and savory. The outside is delicately crispy with a gooey inside that is easy to enjoy. -Coxinha de pato: Duck leg croquettes, dropped off as a complimentary dish, ended up being one of our favorites of the meal. It is generously (and appropriately) sauced with a pimenta aioli that you'll want to lick off the plate. -Estrogonofe de cogumelos: a variety of roasted mushrooms in a lovely savory sauce with shoestring potatoes and rice. A great heftier dish for vegetarians and omnivores alike, the mushrooms are that perfect roasted texture that is neither overly crispy nor slimy. Eaten in a bite with the crispy potatoes and rice gives it a perfect combination of textures. -Black angus picanha: Perfectly cooked and so tender, with an intensely flavorful crust. I savored every bite. -Arroz de brocolis: This is way too good to be relegated as "just a side". The rice is somehow creamy, yet not gloopy. -Salada verde: A pretty standard green salad but elevated with gorgeous lettuce and a light vinaigrette. I do have a pet peeve about restaurant salads where they leave the leaves whole. Why make me cut the leaves myself? -Gengibre: we weren't feeling alcoholic cocktails on a Tuesday evening so two of us each ordered the Gengibre NA cocktail. It is one of the best NA cocktails I've had, super refreshing and just the right amount of tartness. The three of us were quite satisfied after this meal, and after tax and tip our bill came to around $180. The service had nothing to really complain about, although we did notice that they were unusually assertive about clearing the plates of those of us who had slowed down, even though one of our party was still visibly eating. Went here for a friend's birthday and had such a great time! The restaurant transitions into a lounge at night, creating a fun and lively atmosphere. The music was great, and the food was delicious. I ordered the oxtail gnocchi and it was easily a 10/10. The drinks were also really good and reasonably priced for DC. Vibes here - superb! Food, pretty good. Drinks - great. We dined when they had a guest bartender visiting from New York. His specialty cocktail list skewed too sweet for me (lots of pandan, coconut etc..) so I went with a classic caipirinha which was super refreshing and perfectly sour. They had a live dj who played afrobeats/Brazlian music, I was shazaming all night. Great spot to come for happy hour, date or a small group dinner - just be sure to reserve well in advance because it was packed for a weeknight! Food fell a little short for me unfortunately given the price points but would've been great with more developed flavors/seasoning. A lot of the appetizers we ordered were fried and a bit too oily/fishy for my liking. The pork belly was superb though, great compliment of citrus zingy punch to fat. Steak was cooked well just a little flat on seasoning. Octopus has a few chewy membranes on it still but the tomato based sauce was superb, really enjoyed dipping my bread into it. The shrimp gambas were beautiful. Dessert (birthday) were super decadent and really hit the spot. What a fabulous time we had! We decided to go check out Cana after church for a little Sunday brunch! We decided last minute but were able to get reservations at the chef's counter! And what a treat that was! We had a fantastic time interacting and talking with the Chef's! We had the chance to learn more about the cuisine as well as fun facts about Brazil! The whole staff was very friendly and made us feel very welcomed! The whole atmosphere and vibe were on point as well with both the music and the decor! Lastly, the food was delicious everything they recommended was delicious! We tried the fried fish, steak and even the homemade orange juice! It was all spectacular! Tried out brunch at Cana this time! The vibe is still nice and our server was super friendly. I enjoyed the Velho Tamarindo drink again. It's still my favorite. It's like an old fashioned but with amazing subtle tamarind and banana flavors popping through. I tried the lychee caipirinha. It wasn't bad but not as good as the Tamarindo! The caipirinha presentation is nice and the size is good. My friend said the picanha steak was to die for. The cod Milanese was also good. I tried the egg moqueca and it was only ok. The sauce didn't taste anything like any other moqueca I've had before and I don't like it as much. So I wouldn't get it again but people who like zesty tomato sauces might like it a lot. WHAT A MEAL!! We don't know much about Brazillian cuisine but we were shepherded through a fantastic journey. (I would clock this about 4.5 stars and have not criticisms. Why not five stars? Only because this was our first visit) There was not a single miss, but for us the standouts were the moqueca packaged as an appetizer but traditionally a fish stew. I could become addicted to it.... Also, the Hamachi crudo/ceviche in tigre de leche was so well balanced in flavors leveraging acidity and sweetness of pineapples that it was pure harmony. I can't forget the octopus as well. It was perfectly prepared and we had our with a bolognese type sauce with ground octopus provided mouth watering texture and taste. The picanha steak was flavorful with just enough fat and we sampled all of the sides on the menu (broccoli and rice, potato salad, vinagrete, black beans, and yuca flour. (Mix the yuca, beans, and hot sauce together and you will have a delicious combo). I don't know much about Cachaça, but we had several different kinds of Cachaça based cocktails and were delicious. The bartenders/ mixologists are clearly very talented - a little too talented because it was tempting to drink a little too much : - ) Service is fantastic and extremely attentive. I don't know how they do it because the restaurant is so busy. The energy is very youthful with engaging staff, nice music, and a happy crowd of customers. You would really have to try hard to have a good time. For the two of us, we ate extremely well, with roughly 3-4 drinks between us and feast beyond feasts. For us, total price with tax, 3% wellness fee, and 25+% tip was $425. If you aren't massive eaters and drinkers (like us) you could easily get by with less. Cana will definitely be part of our rotation but as others suggest it takes planning and reservations. The secret is out. read more

Over an hour, I ordered the Maracuja with passion fruit and the Caju Amigo, which was described to me as the lovechild of an apple and pear. (It's an accurate description.) Came here for a Wednesday night Bossa Nova and sat at the bar for dinner. The place was bustling - good thing we had a reservation. Very authentic Brazilian food, music and overall atmosphere. Service was phenomenal - from entering, ordering, delivery, to exit. All the staff seemed extremely happy to work there. We ordered the FRALDINHA, POLVO, GALETINHO, DADINHOS DE TAPIOCA and BOLINHO DE BACALHAU. Recommend 4 to 5 tapas per person. I would not recommend the tapioca starter. I was immediately charmed by the entrance to Cana of all things, the cute doorway framed by luscious green and blooming plants creates an inviting invitation that is hard to ignore. I personally am a sucker for charred octopus dishes, so as soon as I saw this on the menu I knew I was in for a treat. The associated pirão sauce was a perfect accompaniment, and was scraped clean off the plate like most everything else we got for dinner. My other favorite of the night was probably the vinaigrette de palmito, with high acidity and excellently balanced vegetables included each bite was a delight. Our server was wonderful, she checked in on us regularly and gave great recommendations for drinks and snacks alike. My friend and I decided on Cana after seeing it on the inKind app. We enjoyed dinner here (like actually, we really did enjoy it) this past Wednesday evening. The servers were attentive, and all the food came out within 20 minutes after ordering. The pacing was good, and we didn't feel overwhelmed with too many things out at once. N/A COCKTAIL: CAIPIRINHA 0% - 14 I'm a sucker for sugar cane based drinks, and the server recommended passionfruit over strawberry, so that's what I got. I wish I said light ice, because the drink was predominantly ice. I was finished within 3 minutes, which is disappointing for how pricy the drink was. COXINHA DE PATO - 19 Each order came with three duck leg croquettes (shaped like a really round teardrop) which sat on top of some pimenta aioli. These croquettes were so delicious, easily the best bites of our meal so far, with a thin crispy exterior, and smooth, pâté-like texture that was flavorful and rich. The aioli was spicy and creamy, which went well with the croquettes. Yum! I would highly recommend. TORRESMO - 18 This was a small bowl of crispy pork belly topped with some onions and fresh herbs with a generous layer of ramp aioli. While the combination of flavors (fresh and pungent from the garnish and aioli, juicy and savory from the pork belly), it was way too salty. Some of the pork belly wasn't rendered long enough -- the texture was inconsistent between pieces. POLVO - 33 This was charred octopus (came with either two arms or two halves of one arm, couldn't tell) that had three spheres of yucca bolinhos (mashed? yucca fries interior with a crispy thin layer). My friend is not the biggest fan of yucca, but we both agreed it was one of our favorite bites of the entire meal. The octopus was soft with a slight chew, which was the perfect texture, and it was well seasoned. Unfortunately, we didn't really like the pirão sauce that came with it, so we left most of it behind. PICANHA: BLACK ANGUS - 37 The steak was cut into noticeably thin pieces, which we were pretty impressed by. We asked for medium rare, but the end pieces were more like medium or medium-well, which ended up being a bit tough to chew on. The middle pieces were perfectly seared and cooked, with a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness that was juicy and rich. The seasoning was perfect. BROCCOLI RICE - 7 This was more than enough broccoli rice to share between the two of us. I never thought I would enjoy broccoli this much. The rice was green from the broccoli puree, stalks of broccoli pieces were generously mixed in, and elevated the flavor with the pungent garlic pieces. The rice was enjoyable on its own and contained a lot of savory, umami flavors. We were pretty impressed! While the food was delicious, I only give it a 4/5 stars because of how they handle billing customers. There is a 3% employee wellness fee and automatic 20% gratuity. The tax is not 10% of the subtotal, like it should be. It's 10% on top of the subtotal, fee, and gratuity. In total, we paid 35% more on top of our subtotal. This is actually outrageous. Sure, there other DC restaurants doing this, but great to know Cana is no better. read more

My favorite things were the Romeu e Julieta (Jamaican rum + cream cheese + lemon + guava) cocktail and the FLAN (PUDIM)!!!!! I think about this Brazilian flan often like definitely the most I've had in my life. The food and drinks were amazing (verified by my half-Brazilian husband) and represented flavors and dishes from all over Brazil. The vinagrete de palmito and dadinhos de tapioca were perfect starters, with refreshing acidity in the salad and the satisfying fruit/cheese combination in the tapioca squares. The peixe cru was wonderful, thinly sliced with well-balanced citrus juices and herbed oil. The camarao and queijo coalho from the grill were full of flavor, with a tasty chili seasoning on the perfectly grilled head-on shrimp and honey and oregano on the cheese. We will definitely be back to try the picanha. The cocktails were exceptional, with my favorite being the picante amarelo (smoky, fruity, with a little pepper). The service was friendly and helpful. They set up a tasting flight for us to try some of the varieties of caschaca. The sourdough bread starter was great. $11 is a little absurd for bread, but still worth getting. The steak is a must. It was cooked to perfection. The charred hearts of palm salad was interesting and flavorful. Least fav was the Octopus. It was still good, just not cooked to perfection. Wouldn't get that again. Flan is the only dessert and it was perfect. The food came out extremely fast and all at once. We had anticipated them to at least course out the salad dish. I was impressed by Cana. Everything on the menu sounded great; we had a hard time making a choice! We tried Coxinha (duck croquettes, 3 to an order, $19), Polvo (octopus, $33), picanha (black angus steak with farofa, $37), broccoli rice ($7 on online menu, $9 in person), the flan ($10), and drinks like the Cana Classico (classic caipirinha, $16) and Caju Amigo ($17). The food was all delicious... with one exception. But first, the good parts. The duck croquettes had a very nice, light fry on them and were filled with nice ground duck meat and served with delicious aioli with a little spice. The octopus was also great. It was nicely cooked, tender but a little crispy, served with a tomatoey sauce that I liked at first but then found a bit distracting. The steak (medium rare) was also very nicely cooked and seasoned. The flan was great, another highlight. The only letdown was the Broccoli Rice, which was recommended by the waiter. It was pretty bland overall with only some broccoli on top and not mixed throughout, so it was mostly just some green-ish rice and not enough broccoli. Not to mention we were overcharged. Cocktails were good. The space is beautiful with a mix of tables, bar, and chefs counter. We sat at the chefs counter and it was fun to seem them prepare the dishes. Service was good. As a caipirinha lover I was so excited to try Cana and it did not disappoint! Came for a 10pm reservation on a Friday night -- DEFINITELY make a reservation. This place turns more into a traditional bar around 11:30 but when the kitchen is open its not a standing room kind of place and hard to walk into without a reservation (I've tried without success!). We were seated at the bar after a short wait and were greeted shortly after by our server who was AWESOME! She was so friendly and kind and also really knowledgeable and shared more about cachaça and the popularity of caipirinhas in Brazil. She was also nice enough to let us taste some cachaça on its own to get a better sense of the spirit. The drinks here are freaking phenomenal, especially if youre a cachaça/caipirinha lover. The standard 'cana' drink was incredible but the lychee variation really blew us away. This bar is also FUN! The vibes were right: great Brazilian music and energy with an open kitchen so you can see and smell all the delicious plates. I had an amazing time and would love to come back for dinner. This is the absolute perfect date night spot and great for a girls night too. It is LOUD and I wouldnt recommend a big group as its a fairly small bar/restaurant with mostly bar seating. Definitely the kind of place where you need to shout, especially later in the night with the DJ there. My first review of 2026, and I'm so glad it's for a spot that is one of the best new places I have tried in a long time. Incredible. They're great for a date night or special occasion, or just a fun time. Most of the negative reviews here (and there aren't many) are from people who didn't make a reservation. As long as you have one, you will be good. We had a reservation at 8:00 and were seated immediately, and once seated, they were very efficient with service and getting us what we ordered. Food, drinks, and ambiance are all top notch. The lights are dim and warm with lots of orange and green tones all over. It's very welcoming, and the music was on point as well. We were coming for food and drinks, so we opted for a chef's table reservation, which is a seat at the counter looking into the small kitchen. We love sitting side by side, so this was perfect for us, but they also have traditional tables and a bar if you prefer. For drinks, we started with the maracuja caipirinha, which is their passionfruit variety. They are known for their caipirinhas, so you really have to try one. It is probably the best we've ever had, tart and fruity but not overly sweet. Well done. We also tried the velho tamarindo. The ingredient list boasts bourbon, cachaca, coconut, tamarind, banana, and cinnamon. Wow. That giant list would normally turn me off, but they helpfully include little drawings of the type of glass it comes in, so I knew it would be a small rocks glass, more akin to an old fashioned than a highball. I love when bars do that. The drink was great, and so unique, an intriguing explosion of flavors while still on the boozy side. Now, the food. So good. The black angus steak is a real standout. It comes sliced thin with a side of toasted flour. Very simple but executed perfectly. The meat is very tender and well seasoned. This is the one dish you cannot miss. We also tried the pastel de camarao - a fried shrimp empanada - and a arroz de brocolis - a green rice with broccolini and crispy garlics. Both were very flavorful, perfect accompaniments with the steak. For two people, that was a good size meal for us, though they have a lot of other options if you want to feast. To end things off we had a second round of drinks. The brazilian coffee is their take on an espresso martini, essentially coffee, coconut, and cachaca. It was served chilled and is very tasty. A great after-dinner drink. It paired great with the quentao, a hot after-dinner drink. That one has port, cognac, vanilla butter which smells so delicious, and a little lemon and pineapple. The drinks were all very unique and perfectly balanced. Bonus points because it was my wife's birthday, and they brought a complimentary flan with a birthday candle. I arrived at opening to get on the waitlist and was pleasantly surprised to get a text within an hour. Sitting outside made for a lovely experience--I enjoyed the relaxed vibe and watching people come and go. The vinaigrette and broccoli rice were the highlights for me. The hamachi was good, but the octopus and steak didn't feel worth the price. For dessert, we had the flan, which was nice, and the maracujá caipirinha was my favorite. The restaurant itself is small despite the pictures and reviews online. It may have been a bad night.. but it was really busy and we were placed against very loud people. Who occasionally bumped into us ... again the bar was pretty small. The drinks were very good and the presentation was key but the food was a little disappointing. The server was very nice and attentive as she offered us help in dealing with the loud gentleman behind us. The place was nicely decorated and reservations are highly encouraged . This place is small and loud. Hard to get a table if you're just coming for drinks. Expect to be jostled around and squished by waiters and patrons going back and forth if you're in the small bar area. But the drinks are very tasty. I had a maracuja cocktail and they used fresh passion fruit. My friend had a tamarind and guava drink styled like an old fashion. Reserve ahead if you can. We tried to come on a whim, but it doesn't seem to be that kind of place to just drop in -- unless you want to grin and bear it. Classy, retro interior. Bar Cana serves up delicious food and drinks, with each dish bursting with flavor. The cocktails were equally impressive, well-crafted and refreshing; I felt like I had been transported to the Brazil. However, the portions are definitely on the smaller side (which we knew ahead of time), and considering the price, they feel a bit steep for the size. If you're planning to visit, I'd highly recommend going with a group so you can share multiple dishes and get the full experience without feeling like you're left wanting more. I have zero complaints, and I can see why this place has been so hyped on social media. It's a lovely, warmly lit bar with the coolest vibes. Their music is some of the coolest in the city. The drinks were all excellent and fairly priced. We ordered some food and everything we had tasted delicious. We had some croquetas and other appetizers and the grilled octopus. We also ordered the flan which was sweet with the interesting toasted, smoky flavor because they torch the top. The service is friendly and attentive. I didn't feel rushed at all, but we were out in about 2 hours. I was so happy my friend got a reservation. He said they started releasing advance reservations instead of the system before, which was only day-of reservations. We have eaten here twice now and we are just mad we didn't come sooner! Everything we have tried has been so delicious. The drinks are AMAZING. The staff so welcoming and friendly. Happy to walk you through everything on the menu to make sure you get what you like. Jonathan is the best waiter made perfect recommendations and checked on us often. We have only been for brunch so far but will definitely be back for dinner soon. It has this fun 70s retro vibe to the place. It's all very well done I would encourage anyone to go there. read more

If you are a caipirinha lover then this place is a must-try in DC. I've tried their traditional and their lychee variation, and I heavily prefer the lychee one. It just adds such a sweet fruitiness to the typical tartness of a caipirinha. I can't really speak for anything else since I've only ever stopped by after 11:30, which is when it turns into a traditional bar but I adore the vibes. There's several tables along the sides, a DJ mixing vinyls, and some fun mood lighting. read more

One of my new favorite places! The interior is super cute, reminiscent of a 70s-style cocktail and record bar. The atmosphere is lively yet intimate. I made a reservation for prime dinner time at exactly at 10 am the morning of, and when we arrived, the place was packed, with a line for walk-ins going out the door. I recommend making a reservation if you want guaranteed seats inside. It's a great spot for a date night or dinner with friends. Cana - A delicious and strong lime caipirinha. (5/5) Maracuja - A wonderful, refreshing, and sweet passion fruit caipirinha. (5/5) Coxinha de Pato - Super cute presentation. The inside of the duck leg croquettes was flavorful but slightly drier than I would have liked. (4/5) Salada de Palmito - Delicious. The mango leche de tigre was amazing, and paired with avocado, it made this an instant like for me. (5/5) Polvo - So good. Perfectly charred, tender octopus with a hearty sauce. The cheese-stuffed yuca balls, however, felt unnecessary--I'm not a fan of cheese and seafood together. (5/5) Picanha - Amazing and perfectly grilled charcoal steak. Be sure to ask for the Brazilian spice to put on the steak--just two small drops on a piece, and it's divine. (5/5) Flan - The cherry on top of an perfect evening of drinks and dinner. I saw about this place online and thought I'd give it a try. It's new and hard to get into and I like Caiparihñas so yeah! I checked out the menu online to see what I might get so I'd be ready. The people working there are very nice so no problem there. The ambiance is cool. Unfortunately, I don't think it's worth the prices. I know it's D.C. and a lot is high but I could get the exact same tapa size entre and drink in Atlanta, Ga. for $20. I could get a large rib and Caiparihña at Fogo de Chao here in DC for $22 at the bar. Half the prices than here.,A lot less ice in my Caiparihña too. Sorry to say if you just want to overspend then this is your spot. If not you can do better. I still needed to go get a snack after $37 picahña read more
