Somehow someway, my friend and I scored a seat at this extremely popular Brazilian steakhouse an hour before the kitchen closed. Divine timing truly! Get a reservation here before you go (especially if on a Friday night!) The steak was absolutely incredible. Low in fat but it was perfectly juicy. I think it was the Fraldinha and the farofa added a salty, crunchy texture. The sourdough bread was tasty and very charred but paired well with the herb butter. I couldn't taste much duck in the Coxinha de pato but was a tasty appetizer. The side salad was really refreshing and simple but paired so well with the rest of the meal. My friend enjoyed Cana's take on an Old Fashion and I tried Cahaça in their self tiled drink. My goodness, it was made with three simple ingredients and it was strong, refreshing and smooth. It tasted like margarita's older sister, more mature and classy! Our waiter was from Brazil and he was a GEM! I absolutely loved how he was patient and helpful during our selections (and getting us a table!). The ambiance is great for date night. The drinks are great, we really enjoyed the caju amigo and the Romeo e julieta. The lychee and tamarindo drinks were good, but not quite at the same level. Personal faves for drinks was the Picante - be forewarned it packs a spicy kick, but so flavorful. The Black Angus Steak paired exceptionally with the Farofa. I could've ate the Farofa on its own - it was that good! We sat a the bar and could see the dedication from the bartenders and wait staff to make each dish and drink delectable. This was during the holidays when DC is not as crowded so not sure how that will work next time we go. We would have made a reservation, but we love sitting at the bar and the bar is walk-in only. Cana is a trendy Brazilian bar and restaurant with some excellent food and drinks. The bar is quite small and cramped and can get a bit loud. We sat at the chef's counter which was great for watching the cooks at work, including an awesome charcoal grill that is used to cook the steak, octopus, and sausage entrees. Our server was super friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful. We appreciated his recommendations and the food came out very quickly. We basically watched the chefs work on our dishes right after placing the order. I enjoyed the bright passionfruit hamachi and freshly shaved truffle pao de queijo. The duck leg croquettes were good but fell a little flat in flavor. We then shared a steak entree with a side of broccoli rice. The broccoli rice felt really unique and added a pop of color to the table, but ultimately just tastes like broccoli. The steak was prepared to a perfect medium rare with a crusty charred exterior. A few bites were a little grisly/sinewy but overall I really enjoyed it. It was served with plenty of farofa, a cassava meal that didn't add much to the steak besides making it drier. It seemed the only dessert was a flan which looked great, but I was too full to give it a try this time. Cocktails were a standout as I really enjoyed the caipirinhas (we tried passionfruit and tangerine), as well as the Matte Leao. All of the drinks were perfectly balanced, easy to drink, and pair refreshingly with the food. Cana is a really fun time; I bet even moreso later in the night. The menu is small and efficient with solid dishes. Importantly the drinks are great. I had a great time, but don't feel the need to return for another round. read more

finally got a @resy at @barcanadc and almost ordered the entire menu alert @barcanadc was perfect for a GNO & rounds of dirty gin martinis but for food we devoured the sourdough bread with garlic, parmesan, and parsley butter (best bread n butter in the game), shrimp empanadas with molhode pimerta (really good), duckleg croquettes with pimenta aiol, black burgundy truffle and biquinho goiabada, charred hearth of palm, avocado with herb leche de tigre, chilled hamachi with a vinaigrette of passion fruit and coconut farofa (pictured and one of my favorites), crispy pork belly with lime, maracujá aioli, and salsa criolla, charred octopus with yucca bolinhos and pirão sauce and last, but not least our absolute favorite was the charcoal-grilled 10oz prime steak with farofa (seasoned and cooked to perfection) we weren't lying when we said we almost ordered the entire menu and there are no regrets @barcanadc was perfect and I cannot wait to dine there again only complaint --- the waitress kicked us out at a prime 9:30 when our reservation was done and we were definitely rushed to finish our food & cocktails :/ read more

July 12th 5pm-10pm We were really looking forward to trying Cana Bar DC, especially their caipirinhas, which they're known for. We knew it would be tough to get a table without a reservation, but according to their own site, they're usually more flexible after 10PM. Both times we visited, we came in just hoping to try a single drink--no food, no lingering--just to get a taste of what they're known for. Unfortunately, we were turned away both times by the same staff member, who wasn't particularly friendly or welcoming. We understand policies, but the lack of hospitality, especially when we were clear and respectful about our intentions, was disappointing. It's a shame, because we genuinely wanted to support the bar and try the drinks, but the experience left a bad impression both times. read more

This place is wildly popular and now I know why. The hype is absolutely justified. Food/vibes/service all are perfect. Went solo (reservation definitely needed) and sat at the chef's counter. Lucked out and got a seat next to a pillar to lean on and take in the bar. Watching the dishes being made is super entertaining and also gives you insight as to what to order. Planned to do some steak or fish but ended up going for the fried cornish game hen because it looked so damn good. And it was. Perfectly cooked/fried and tender and the sauce was incredible. Also got some yucca puree kinda thing that went along perfectly. Menu looked slightly overpriced going in (whatever, it's 2025 and you pay for vibes and stuff, I get it) but I couldn't finish the yucca and game hen. Music/vibes were perfect. Brazilian funk and disco and... tropicalia, I think? Not too loud and not too soft. Perfect, really. Service was top notch. I was alone and kept it under $100 but was treated like royalty. Love the $10 grande beers!! Please keep that going... not all of us are part of the DC cocktail craze!! Having an affordable beer is the icing on the cake and ensured I will be a regular here. The patio was lovely the music and plants gave it a wonderful vibe. The seating is a bit tight, but we still enjoyed the atmosphere. Service was fantastic: friendly and attentive. The food: Quiabo Frito (okra): Delicious! Loved the breading and the sauce. Arroz de Brócolis: Mix it up before eating to distribute the sauce very good. Pão de Alho (charred bread with garlic butter): Tasty and satisfying. Queijo Coalho (two sticks of grilled cheese with honey and lime): Heavenly texture and bite perfect if you love cheese. I wish I could give this a -10 rating. My partner and went here a few days ago based on a rec from a friend (who hadn't been there in a while). THIS PLACE SUCKS!!!! What a killing joke! While the decor is nice, good music (live) and nice service, the portions and prices are beyond the pale. $20 for duck Croakettes (yes, croak is what I did)--we got three tiny crocs shaped like a Hershey's kiss for $20. The Cornish hen? Five tiny pieces to share ($23). And a bowl of broccoli rice ($14, really?) Two of the cane sugar drinks, mostly ice, and my vodka soda. We ended up spending over $130 for nearly nothing. We were still famished when we left, ended up buying candy bars at a local liquor store to keep our blood sugar levels from a deep dive. Oh, and I almost forgot--My drink was a Tito's soda. $15 on the menu, $18 when you get the bill. Why? Because they actually thought they would exploit our pocketbooks one step further by charging $3 for the *splash* of soda! And a 3% surcharge "to cover staff health insurance." I sat there with folded arms and refused to pay either. The manager took it off the check. It's not often that I leave a restaurant so fucking furious, not to mention writing a Yelp review. My friend had recommended it, saying portions were generous, prices normal. She looked at the menu again after our hideous experience and noted that they've nearly doubled their prices over the past months. Bad Idea, Cana! By far the best meal my husband and I have ever had. The service was IMPECCABLE. I highly suggest sitting at the bar located in front of the kitchen. It is absolutely amazing to see what they accomplish in such a small area. Do not sleep on their cocktail menu. I'm Brazilian, I was born and lived in Brazil for 20 years, I know what Brazilian food is like, I found it very expensive for so little food, and they wanted to charge me for "wellness", I asked them to take it off because that's the company's job to pay! Not the customer's. If you are looking for a place to have dinner in a calm and quiet place, where you can talk to people (don't go there). What nostalgia ! I grew up in Brazil and these flavors HIT! It's a high end version of Brazilian food, and refined ingredients lead to explosive flavors! We enjoyed sitting in front of the kitchen and watching the execution, and staff were VERY polite with how they handled reminding us of the 2 hour time limit. We asked for the maracuja caipirinha less sweet and WOW WOW WOW one of the best cocktails I have had in DC this year, so many emotional authentic flavor reminders for me from my childhood ! We had the shrimp pastel (eat it while it's hot!), duck cochina (fabulous!), bacalao fritters (super authentic), hearts of palm and avocado salad (I held on to the plate just to use the sauce / dressing in the end lol), the picana steak (my boyfriend was stunned at the flavors of the steak and he is pretty hard to get a reaction out of!), and yucca spinach mash (absolutely perfect accompaniment for the steak!). Ask for the hot sauce! Halfway through the meal I had fomo and ordered the pao de queijo (I think Americans call is "cheese bread"), and SO GLAD we did (again, the mister usually is NOT into bread items, he had seconds!), did the Flan desert (could have had a TAD less sugar / eggs, but the burnt caramel flavor ** CHEFS KISS**!!) we asked for more caramel to go to put in our coffee's this morning ! Honestly great vibes all around here! Very cozy ambiance, excellent waitstaff/service, and even better drinks. The hype has died down a little since it's now been a few weeks since it opened, so it was easier to get a reservation and finally try this place out! I got the Coco caipirinha cocktail and it was so good I had to get 2! I was a little worried it'd be overly sweet, but it was just right and served over a mountain of ice (the GOOD ice) in cool glasses. My friend also got the duck croquettes and those were packed with flavor! I would recommend going once just to try everything if you like the experience of trying new foods/tastes/combos - the flavors are so unique and there's such a great variety of foods/meats to try. I wouldn't say this is an easy pleaser for picky eaters/casual diners but it's amazing for those who want the experience. We went as a group of four and split everything. We tried the cod croquettes, chilled hamachi, sourdough bread, cheese puff-type dish, picanha tartare, crispy pork belly, charred octopus and tiger prawn. The flavor profiles really stuck out. This is not a cheap meal by any means. The ones I would get again: cod croquettes, hamachi, tartare, charred octopus and tiger prawn. The tiger prawn was really a standout for me - SO delicious. We also tried drinks - I tried the tangerine caipirinha which felt a lot like a margarita type drink and the brazilian coffee which was a delicious espresso martini type feel -- easy love. If you go though definitely try the matte leao, that was one that was amazing and something so different and delicious. Overall a fun experience! It is very dark and a bit loud, and they do kind of rush you out but obviously that makes sense given the huge demand for reservations.
