A year ago, I bought a Dell tower with 64GB RAM and 1 TB SSD memory. Also purchased 3 year warranty for $74.00. Last week, the disc drive died. I took it back, assuming that Canada Computers would replace the disc under the warranty. Instead, they said they would give me a store credit for the original purchase price. The problem is, the increase in memory costs (since I bought my original tower) means that one cannot purchase an equivalent replacement at anywhere near my original price. In the end I had to buy a new tower with half the RAM and memory of my original tower for $142 on top of the store credit. In addition, they would not reimburse any of my unused warranty, not even allowing me to transfer the unused two years to my new purchase. And of course, they hung onto the old tower, presumably to harvest it for parts. So when Canada Computer offers you a warranty, make sure you know what they are, and are not, offering. Don't assume (as I did) that they will repair your unit or replace it with a comparable unit. You will be disappointed. read more

Months ago I was looking into capture cards made from a company based in ottawa that I forgot the name of. Though I did remember that Canada Computers was one of their dealers; so I called them in hopes they might know the company's name. Cory, though he didn't know it off the top of his head, tried to look into it. At first he couldn't find it; however 2 minutes later after I hung up Cory called me again to confirm that the company was Epiphan. Haven't gone to the store in person, but I can only hope that I'm treated to customer service akin to what Cory provided. read more

Earlier this year I was working on report comments for my students and my computer died. I went to Canada Computers (Roydon location) to see if I could get any help. Although I would require an appointment (which put me out of my timelines), Eric, a tech staff, took the time to listen. Transferring things onto an external hard drive and then onto another computer was beyond my skill level but despite not having an appointment, Eric also took the time to see if they had the part I would need in stock (they did). He then did as much of the legwork as needed to allow me to go home and be able to continue the process of transferring information from the external hard drive that he set up. I was appreciative beyond words. I am so grateful for the service I received that day as Eric went above and beyond to help me. Prior to this experience I had purchased 2 different computers from this location and both times was very happy with their customer service. read more

Ohhhh how my boyfriend would snicker while reading this review. I'm not a techie by any means, but living with a computer engineer has brought me into Canada Computers more times than I can count. And though I'm usually absolutely perplexed by whatever conversation is happening between the bf and salespeople, I've gleaned some insight regarding the store itself. We're always greeted with a smile of recognition every time we drop by (probably once every month or two), and we're always left alone to browse for a few minutes, because the staff remembers that Cory likes to look first and ask questions later. Every time we've been unable to find what we're looking for or have questions the staff is always knowledgeable about their products and warranties and often offer suggestions for alternatives which are sometimes (gasp!) cheaper than our original item. What really pushed me to the four star review was an event that occurred a few months ago. I was asked to pick up a whoknowswhat that did noideawhatsoever. and I must have looked flat our perplexed when I entered the store. As I approached the counter to ask for help the staff member smile reassuringly (they knew i was out of my element) and asked how they could help. I gave the instructions Cory had given me, and within 2 minutes I had the product in my hand, was rung up and felt like I knew what I was talking about. Do NOT buy the extended warranty. Purchased an Open Box motherboard which said "Pins Checked". Spent $30 on the 3 Year Direct Replacement Extended warranty. When I went to assemble the unit, 1 pin was broken off the USB3.0 connector, another was bent at 90 Degrees. The store accused me of breaking them. So "pins checked" really means we checked, the pins were broken, we sold it to you anyways. If you buy ANYthing from here, make sure they open the box with you and you physically check all the connectors in front of a staff member, preferably management. Nice scam. read more

I used the repair service. You can only contact them by phone and they rarely answer the phone. I had to pay $50 up front for a diagnostic that took over a week. When the diagnostic was done they called me and I missed the call so I had to call multiple times throughout the day to finally get through to someone. It turned out to be a drive replacement, I figured I would see how they handle it. I agreed for them to transfer the data and reinstall Windows. They ruined my microsoft system identification and lost me my Windows 10 Pro activation, with a boot drive replacement. You can buy goods here but I would not give their repair service another chance. read more

Terrible Return Policy! I spent over a month trying to get an item at this location(they had it at other locations, but not the one near my new home). I should have just gone to another store. Multiple issues with my first order and then another time going to the store on the one day it was closed! By the time I finally got the modem the provider I was going to use it with had changed it's offers and it was cheaper to go with their modem. I tried to return the modem 2 days after getting it and they made me wait around for 20-30mins to wait for what I thought was for the manger to approve the return. Well he didn't and he refused to, what a waste of my time and money! II will never shop here again. To bad as I just moved to Ottawa and I'm sure over the next number of years would have spent a lot of money here. read more

My partner purchased a $300 gift card from your Merivale location because they misrepresented itself. He was assured by store staff they could easily upgrade my system - We had a print out from HP regarding what was exactly required. When brought the computer in and staff suggested we put it in E-Waste, as it was a waste of time. Sorry but the computer works fine. My only trouble is recently I've had trouble connecting to home wifi. And when we brought up the gift card was purchased on a store reps recommendation, we were then told Noel didn't know what he was talking about. It was then suggested I order the items directly from HP then bring them back and for $180 a store rep would install them. The only reason the computer was being brought in was I no longer have an anti static mat. Or grounded tools. We were then told that they could not bother to upgrade the computer, and pick something else. And they wouldn't touch the computer because our bird sometime perches on the system. We were told they will refused to accept the computer for upgrades even if it was cleaned. Funny but Bestbuy had no trouble. They also refused to refund my partner the $300 even though they misrepresented themselves. read more

Now I have a problem with an item 4 days later and they will not take it back (even though they told me 10 days return on everything I bought) because it "works" for them but not for me. I bought a copy of Windows 10 (Home) and installed it on my laptop.(Dell Inspiron). The Windows 10 program itself runs fine (Alexa talks etc) but when I try to run the Project Management program that I am running on several other computers I get a message "This App can't run on your PC". I tried to return the Windows 10 program to Canada Computers but they refused to even discuss return or options. ( I am now trying to reinstall Linux), but would have appreciated a technical discussion as opposed to a rude refusal to discuss possibilities. The nightmare really started in the service department when they lost the operating system which makes the computer a hazardous waste for when Ottawa re-starts their Hazardous Waste Program. do not waste your time, spend your money here or support this scam of an establishment, especially if you aren't knowledgeable in computers. they will scam you without any sort of compassion, its like supporting a small business that has corporate greed. my open box monitor was not properly checked and it has now cost me $500 because EMPLOYEE RYLAND does not properly check the panel, he took one look and said it was "beautiful" and didnt even take 3 seconds of effort to turn it on where he would've promptly seen the dead pixel which was the reason i was returning it. if they make it seem that the "protection" is like a no questions asked policy and you can return it for any reason, DO NOT BELIEVE THEM because the protection will not protect you against anything, thats just their wording and probably training. they will find any reason to make sure that you cant return it, and the manager is extremely unhelpful and condescending, the way he speaks to his customers absolutely disgusted me. my suggestion for anyone reading this is to look at their low prices, and march yourself over to best buy who has a price match guarantee. if youre spending a significant amount of money here document EVERYTHING so they can't scam you later on when the product they sell inevitably becomes defective. read more

Well the staff are friendly enough but not very competent. I dropped in this morning because my computer would not boot up at all. The techie said he didn't have the proper meter to tell whether the power port was working properly but it was likely that and they would have to send it away for up to 6 weeks to get a new one Estimated cost $2-300....WTF?! He said I could try asking the sales guy if a new cord would do it and then went back to talking to the tech beside him. The sales guy tried a cord but no luck and there I stood...computer not running and a half a day behind in my work. I drove over to a competitor who I have now reviewed positively who tweaked and disconnected and actually put some effort into problem solving instead of suggesting a long and costly replacement fix. End result was it didn't need to be sent away at all and it was a relatively easy fix. Sorry but CC didn't make me happy. read more

Had fairly good experiences with Canada Computers @ Roydon Place. They've had staff turn-over, but some of the staff have been around for a while and are knowledgeable, and a few others are friendly. Always managed to talk with the good employees, even though they are often in-demand serving other customers. My last purchase went smoothly, very happy with my new 1080ti based graphics card - what a beast! Never had a problem with anything purchased from them, and they've never given me a hassle when I wanted to return something provided it was new/unused/factory-sealed/not clearance or special order. They forgot to give me a game code for the 1080ti I bought. They could use some improvement in this area, especially when the customer spends tens of thousands of dollars at their store. Second time this happened, that's why the 4 out of 5 stars. Definitely will be back. read more

The service department does not answer the damn phone. It just rings 3 times then goes back to the option menu. On three separate days I spent about 20 minutes each pressing 2 to ring the service department, having it go unanswered, then back to the options menu. Over an over again. The ringing in the store must have been annoying for everyone, but nope - they would never pick up. Here's the story. I brought my computer in for a repair. It would start (didn't pass the power on self test). I was made to pay up front for a diagnostic, which was about $45. I was told it should take a week. If this crappy service department is going to be late, I understand that can happen sometimes. But to not answer the phone when I'm calling for status is inexcusable. I finally had to go in person, taking time away from work on a Friday. I counted the computers on the shelf and desks - there were about 30 for repair. I asked for a manager who told me the normal time is 2.5 weeks and doesn't know why I was told 1 week. 2.5 weeks for 30 computers, really ? You can do fewer than 2 a day ? A you can't answer the phone ? The manager made every manner of excuse and said he was helpless to fix the situation. He said this location is 3 times busier than other CC's. So I told him he needs 3 times the staff. This is not rocket science, it is a simple and basic retail repair workshop. Figure out the average repair times, give me a reliable estimate, measure the techs on achieving the deadlines and hold them accountable. Hold youself accountable for managing the operation. Hire an intern or high schooler to answer the phone - don't have your techs do this (which they don't do anyway). And don't take someone's friggin computer if you're not going to work on it for 2 weeks. Give them a ticket and let them return 2 weeks later to drop off the computer when you're actually able to do the work. But most of all, answer the damn phone. And have good information about when the repair will be done. read more

Terrible customer service. I tried to order something online for curbside pickup that showed in stock and available in store. It would not let me add it to my cart. I had the exact description from the website, so i decided to walk to the store and pick up. I am the only person in line when the door opens, Rude lady asks for item code, as im telling her my situation she interupts, no we do not look for things. I also mentioned i did not have a data plan for my phone. so i had to run around in the rain for 10 minutes looking for free wifi to get the code even though i had the exact name and colour and the online system failed me. So basically i got treated like garbage for not following a procedure that is not explained on the website. When i emailed a complaint, zero responsibility taken,we dont control the website is the lame excuse they give. yes, but you represent it and should know whats on it. Ive spent a lot of money at this location too, really disappointing. It felt like i had my order ready and still got the soup nazi treatment. read more

Terrible repair service. I bought an expensive MSI GE72 2QD Apache Pro laptop and less than 1 year later it is falling apart at the seams. Three screws fell out of casing, fan making a racket, power button turning itself on and off, audio jack only working for 1 earphone, right hinge falling apart. Canada Computer only gives me 30 days of warranty, for the next 11 months it's MSI and I have to go to Toronto and be without my laptop for some weeks?! Not only that, I telephoned the branch on Roydon and they said they had the screws, got there on foot and they didn't have them. They recommended I walk to UBREAKWEFIXIT as they'd definitely have the screws. Walked there and they didn't either. What a waste of my day. But more importantly, my laptop was very expensive but it's a lemon and I'm not getting any help or satisfaction. Come on Canada Computer! :( read more

My husband bought a hover board for Christmas for our 11 year old daughter who wouldn't stop asking for one. When she opened the box the board was obviously used. There were scratches all over the top of it. It was either returned after someone used it or it was a demo. My daughter was so upset because she expected a brand new board and ended up with this dirty scratched up one. She asked why her dad bought her a used hover board. I said it should have been new with no scratches. My husband went to the store today and asked for a simple exchange due to the fact that the board was clearly used. He was told that the item had to be returned within 14 days. It was 3 days after that date. My daughter didn't open the box when she got it because she knew she can only use it when there isn't any snow on the road so there wasn't any urgency to open it. She wanted to take a picture of it to show all her friends. So my husband was so angry that they wouldn't give an exchange he left the board and receipt at the store with the manager. He knew he had to leave quickly or he was going to totally lose it. The manager at this store is a total loser. How could he let a 3 day discrepancy let down a young child. What kind of policy is this when you sell a used item to an unknowing customer and then won't exchange it? Disgusting! We will never ever buy anything from this company again! read more
