I can't say enough good things about Dr. Zhu and his staff. He's been my dentist ever since I was a kid and now that I'm on my own insurance, I still come here. The quality of service here has always been fantastic. They treat me like family and are always accommodating to any needs I may have. The quality of care is excellent from the second you step in. The receptionist are friendly and personable. The dental hygienist are all very nice and thorough with their cleaning and always take the time to discuss personalized oral hygiene routines and offered practical tips for maintaining optimal dental health. Dr. Zhu has always offered great care to myself and my family. He and his staff are both trustworthy and caring. Though this office is in Chinatown, their staff are fluent in English too. If you are not familiar with the neighborhood they can even give you some good food recommendations after you've had your cleaning! Mandarin and Cantonese speakers will also both feel at home. The combination of a welcoming environment, a knowledgeable and attentive dental team make this dental office a standout choice for anyone seeking quality care. read more

Clean office, modern equipment and a pleasant staff, not much more you can ask for. Whether it's calling or emailing for info you always get a prompt response. The cleaning was a breeze and painless like it should be. Dr Zhu has a great bedside manner and takes time to explain the procedure he's recommending. I had a chip in my rear tooth and was anticipating being told I need a root canal & crown. To my surprise, I was told the tooth structure was still good and all I would need is an onlay (cap). When the first part of the procedure was being done, he started scanning my teeth with a wand at end. After he was finished, he asked if I wanted to see what was done. I turned to look at a scanned image for the company to use to make the onlay. Dr Zhu then said that's pretty cool right, no more molds to make impressions. The second part of the procedure to put the onlay in was also equally smooth. Dr Zhu took to time to shape the tooth and onlay for a good fit. read more

Dr Jean Gong: unhelpful and rude. She even WALKED OUT on me & said "WHO'S NEXT?" EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL! My new retainer was not keeping one tooth from shifting inwards. She tightened the retainer but it didn't help so I went back a 2nd time. After waiting OVER AN HOUR, she came and said the retainer fit. After pushing her to look again, she noticed one tooth was shifting out and stated that was normal. That wasn't even the tooth I was discussing but fine, now I have two problem teeth (one tooth going in & another going out). I didn't have issues with my old retainers for the last 15 years but with these new ones, my teeth started to shift. She refused to help and kept giving excuses: It's normal for your teeth to move Your teeth moved only a little after 15 years. Be happy. Your teeth already moved because the retainers took a few weeks to make. The retainer doesn't shift your teeth back The retainer doesn't shift teeth, it only keeps them in place (then why did my old retainers shift slight movements and made my teeth straight again?) Go back to your doc from 15 years ago for your original teeth molds When she ran out of excuses, she literally walked out of the room and said "who's the next patient?" That was unnecessary - I didn't curse/yell and was only asking for help! I waited over an hour to receive 5 minutes of excuses and a nasty attitude. read more

Dr. Su is a real gentleman. His technique is great. I took an extraction surgery of my wisdom teeth, which had already crushed. The whole process only took me 20 minutes, including waiting 5min on reception, 5min took X-ray photos, and 5 injected pain release drugs and 5 min surgery. (Actually, it was 30second). Everything is perfect so that we make another appointment for tooth cleaning. The new office is clean and fresh. During the surgery, I can hold my husband's hand to cover my panic because I am a huge child, haha. I can take my ugly wisdom tooth home with a medical plastic bag and laugh at it. They accepted a debit card, which is really rare in Chinatown. Definitely, it is a hidden gem. read more

First came to Canal Dental Group by word of mouth years ago when they were still at their old office. Dr. Zhu is honestly the best and I was so sad to learn they didn't accept my insurance when it was time for me to come back for another check up. I finally got new insurance and I didn't wait to come back to Dr. Zhu. Their new office is clean and spacious. Their administrative staff is as friendly and accommodating as usual. They make appointment setting so easy for me and my husband to come and get a check up and cleaning together. We never had to wait long. My dental hygienist, Dorothy, just gave me the most painless and thorough cleaning ever. She was super gentle and so informative. Dr. Zhu has wonderful bedside manner and is very professional. This whole team is just stellar and I highly recommend coming here for your dental needs! read more

I was never a member of YELP until today. My experience with Canal Dental Group compelled me to let others know how happy I was with everything. I searched for over an hour on the net to find a highly rated and reasonably priced dentist, Canal Dental Group was that needle in the haystack. From my first contact with Canal Dental Group, through to the completion of my needs, EVERYONE was professional, caring, and personable. What was truly refreshing for me is the fact that at no time did anyone at Canal Dental Group try to upsell me on services I did not need or want. I will surely return if the need arises. Thanks to everyone! read more

Came here randomly after my partial crown decided to fall out in the middle of chinatown late on Friday afternoon. Dr. Zhu was super calming and fixed it, his office got my insurance to take care of the costs and the whole experience was as pleasant as unexpected dental work can be. I'll also mention that it was a clean, professional office and everyone there was very nice --none of that scammy dentist crap. He put the partial crown back on after thoroughly cleaning the tooth and told me to keep an eye on it/go to my regular dentist if I had any pain or sensitivity. No weird up-sell or fear-mongering behavior. Thanks Dr. Zhu! read more

Excellent (and clean) office with the friendliest staff you can find. Both the doctors, hygienists and assistants are all on top of their game and provide the best treatment and care. Recommendation is to make an appointment as the office is quite popular so spots do fill up fast. Its great to find an office that genuinely cares about your oral health (and takes the time to treat you properly) versus a clinic that is just trying to get clients in&out as fast as possible and churn the largest profits. Your cleanings here won't be 15-20 minutes but can take up to 45 mins to a hour, but that's due to the thoroughness of the hygienists. You'll leave feeling beyond refreshed and excited for your next appointment! read more

Have been a patient of Dr Zhu for over 20 years along with many of my friends and love him. Great bedside manner and very thorough.Have tried other dentist but no one compares to him. read more

We've been a regular patient of Dr. Zhu for routine check-up & cleaning for years. He loves to engage in conversation and applies a hands on approach when it comes to his patients. So, no worries if you're the quiet type! He informs me every step of the way so that I'm aware of what is happening when it comes to my dental health. And, if you have questions, he will go through and cover anything with you. He is very knowledgeable and extensive in terms of maintenance of personal oral health and hygiene. I definitively trust him to keep my teeth and gums clean and healthy. The dental fees are very reasonable and affordable. And, they accept most medical insurance. Another bonus is convenience- they now accept major credit cards and even personal checks! Definitely ask upfront and bring all medical forms with you particularly for reimbursements. In the busy streets of downtown lower Manhattan, Dr. Zhu is your best bet compared to other dentists. read more

I was referred by one of my friends who has done a nice Tooth Whitening job with Dr. Zhu at his nice, modern and clean dental office. I can't wait to set up an appointment with him! The office is located right by the subway station on Canal Street in Chinatown. Dr. Zhu is very experienced and professional dentist. He explained every procedure I need to know about tooth whitening procedure and also he listened to my concerns and my anxiety associated with the procedure. I was worried about having sensitive teeth after Whitening, but after I followed his instruction strictly, everything went smoothly. Now I have my white teeth that I smile freely anytime I want to, I am so happy! I highly recommend Dr Zhu. read more

Dr. Zhu has been our family dentist for over a decade and we love to come to his conveniently located office on the Canal Street (and have all the chores done, by the way, we live in New Jersey). The receptionists are professional and efficient, while the office is clean and welcoming. The best of all, there is no long waiting period. Dr. Zhu reviews our history and asks millions of questions before the treatment and gives us advice after the treatment and a goodie bag full of tooth brushes and pastes. He is very patient and listens carefully about our questions and concerns. If the treatment is out of his scope, he will quickly refer us to a specialist and even sometimes call the specialist personally and explains the conditions. As for our kids' doctor, Dr. Chan, he has won their hearts from the very beginning by giving them fun toys and showing their favorite videos during the treatment. As parents, it is a relief to see that Dr. Chan is able to make them smile shortly after taking out their cavity tooth and he is available whenever they have an emergency. His meticulous work was marveled by our orthodontist, saying "you are fortunate to have a very good pediatric dentist to take care of your kids' teeth and make our job much easier and less pain for your kids". Definitely recommend the Canal Dental Group to all the friends! read more
