I was in need of a new roof. I contacted Oscar Canales, the owner and asked for an estimate and made an appointment for the next afternoon. Oscar showed up right on time and after talking to me for a few minutes climbed up on the roof and did a complete inspection. After completing the inspection Oscar said he would work up an estimate and email it to me. He got the price to me the next day. I choose them to do the job after comparing them with my other estimates. They were able to do the job two days later and were done in one day. Owner and the crew were very friendly and professional and did a good job. They also cleaned up the site very well and hauled it all away. We had Oscar come out and do some roof repairs for us, as well as install some gutter leaf guards and replace a damaged gutter downspout that had occured during a storm back in the fall. His estimate was better than that of other area competitors, and came recommended by friends as well as here on Yelp. The roof over our screened in porch is nearly a flat roof. Water had been collecting up there, and since it was able to do that, was seeping it's way in between the shingles and damaging the wood underneath as well as leaking into the porch itself. We need to replace the shingles with a solution made for flat roofs so that water could not penetrate, however, our HoA mandated that the roof match the color of the shingles used on the rest of the house. That made a rubber roof impossible because that only comes in black or white. Oscar recommended instead a rolled roof, which we were able to find in slate grey. That matches the currently lain shingles on the rest of the house really well, since there was no need to do anything to those. As soon as we had a day with good enough weather, his team came over to install it and replace any lumber that was damaged by the old. They followed up on several subsequent days to finish odd tasks, like replacing the damaged downspout, installing the gutter guards, and finally doing the final touches on the roof to ensure their worksmanship. 7 years ago I had Canales Roofing install a new asphalt shingle roof on my house. They worked hard and finished on time for a reasonable price. I was concerned later that the flashing was not installed correctly but the owner told me all was OK. It was not. I have wood rot around this area and have to hire a roofer to fix. The new roofer agreed with me that the old flashing was incorrect. Wood rot, not easily seen behind the gutters, has offered squirrels an entrance and to the attic, so I also have that problem. I cannot recommend this roofer. The costs to fix these mistakes will be substantial. I strongly recommend you consider another roofer. read more

From the beginning communication and responses were consistent. I first had Oscar come over to look at a leak. I found out that we actually had hail damage from the previous year. We brought the insurance in and we went ahead and had the whole roof replaced (shingles/flat rubber roof). He sent over a quote and I forwarded it to a trusted roofer I worked for one summer and he said it was a really great quote and warranty. I've laid shingles before but never did a rubber roof. Looking over their work they did a wonderful job with the shingles! They used high quality architectural shingles instead of the previous 3-tab shingles. The gables were done professionally and upgraded from the way they were done before. Oscar is bilingual in English and Spanish. His workers are respectful upon arrival and stayed that way throughout. I wanted to share my experience and reference for THE BEST roofer. We got 6....yep count 'em 6 quotes....for our roof replacement AND I know more about roof replacement than I ever cared to know. We had all the usuals....Hammer Time, Skywalker, Roofing Pro, ABC Roofing and AF Roofing. All with varying quotes and varying ideas about the roofing process. Here are some VERY IMPORTANT things you need to know if you need to replace your roof. 1) If you don't already have one....you must have a ridge vent installed....if you don't it will void your shingle warranty from the manufacturer. In order for a ridge vent to operate properly you must also have soffits in your roof eaves. Intake (soffits), outtake (ridge vent). If you just have a ridge vent with no soffits you will risk mold and mildew build up in your attic. We had some of the prospective roofers tell us that "power fans" in the roof or fans at the gable vents would also work....THEY WILL NOT!. We are installing soffit vents ourselves....it is very simple and cost all of $20.00. 2) The shingle warranty from the manufacturer DOES NOT include workmanship. The roofing contractors we spoke to offered 1 year, 5 - 10 years for an extra charge, 5 years or 10 years included in the price 2) Every single roofing contractor of the 5 listed above admittedly uses mexican sub-contractors. Some even go to Lowes in the morning and solicit general laborers that they do not know anything about....their skill level....their background...nothing. They get a price from the sub-contractor and mark it up and that is your quotation. 3) In the case of Roofing Pro, they did not even inspect our roof; but, were quick to point our that any unseen damage would be extra. The salesman only wanted to present his presentation to my husband; because, clearly a women didn't need to worry her silly little head about a roof. What he didn't realize is that I have remodeled 5 houses as a single woman....I know much more about it than my husband does. Bad assumption on his part. They are also the company that offers only a 1 year workmanship warranty. We eliminated them early on. 4) One of the roofing contractors told me he would pay me $100.00 cash for reviews. REALLY? Although I understand that as a business owner you must make a profit, we had "Apples to Apples" quotes ranging from $14,000.00 - $6,800.00. If $6,800.00 is what it costs the sub-contractor (who is making a profit) and you the roofing contractor are marking up their price by this kind or margin and adding NO value to the process, this appears to me to border on exploitation rather than just good business practices. So after that long winded description and take aways regarding the process we went through....Here is our roofing contractor recommendation... Canales Roofing!!!!! They use their own contractors....Oscar (the owner) is a roofer, not a salesman. He is honest, hardworking and knows what he is doing. He wants to do a great job at a fair price. AND he was the only contractor to offer a 10 Year workmanship warranty INCLUDED in the price of the roof. There is no nickel and dimeing with Oscar. He came when he said he would, did what he said he would do, finished ahead of schedule, did an impeccable job, and my yard was immaculate when he was finished.
