Margaritas were excellent. Service was quick. Food was served but was not very warm. Had to send it back to be rewarmed. Noticed the floor looked like food had spilled on it and was just wiped up. It needed to be done better and scrubbed with a mop. It was mid day about 1:00 when we arrived. Not very busy. Only about 4-5 tables filled. Tab came to little over $50.00 with 2 margaritas and a 20% tip. To be fair they had not been opened long yet. They were still working out the bugs I am sure. read more

Cute little spot in north Ankeny, no frills, services was really fast. Which was good but we also wanted to linger so we made sure to tell them we wanted more time to order. Chips and salsa were really great! I judge All Mexican restaurants by this I had the steak street tacos, the meat was really good- however the tortillas were soaked in a sauce and they completely fell apart. I ended up eating all the filling without it. My husband said the carne asada was tough to eat and not as tender as he'd like. Very friendly staff and fast service but the food was lacking and I don't see myself going back. read more

This is one of our favorite Mexican spots! It is always very busy, but we've never had to wait for a table. The servers are friendly and quick to serve. We like to get queso and a margarita pitcher on Friday nights ($20 for pitcher + nachos). Our meals are consistent and taste good. Fun atmosphere and popular for a reason. The true highlight of this place is the hot sauce. Seriously. Ask for it and you'll know what mean. At first, I was like "what is this?!?" But then...the smokey flavor and the authentic salsa-like texture left me in awe. Don't get me wrong, their food and drinks are great too. We ordered Playa del Carmen fajita for two and Smokey Paloma. Enough to feed a whole family. But we also ordered a kids meal too. Their place is clean and their service is definitely one of the best. I came here on a Friday night around 7pm- should've known it would be busy! The place was packed and the waitress said it would be over a 30 minute wait. So I ordered food on Yelp and came back to pick it up. I got the tacos al pastor, guacamole, chips & salsa, and aqua de Jamaica. I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE ENOUGH!! Cozy little spot with excellent food! They have a variety of offerings on their menu, but not so many that it's overwhelming. I ordered the mini chimis appetizer as my meal and got half beef, half chicken. I was not disappointed! The salsa is also the best I've had in the area so far. They have specials on margaritas, I can't remember the price, and they're decent. My friend got some a la carts tacos and a chicken quesadilla and took half home because the portions were very generous. She liked her meal as well! I usually go with a simple A Cancun Lunch Burrito, (usually just beans inside) with rice. Always delicious. Or go with a more unique, different option every-time. They have it all. Went to Cancun last night for their soft opening. There were only a few other tables of customers and there were plenty of staff so service was great. I believe the restaurant only had tables and chairs - no booths. The place feels a bit bare and sterile and it's not an ideal place if you want to sit with friends for an extended time and enjoy some drinks...booths would be much comfier. They have a great variety of tequila options and many of their flavored margaritas feature fruit flavored alcohols instead of the crappy bottled syrups. My husband had a peach margarita and it had peach schnapps in it also... It was quite tasty. I ordered the jumbo cantarito and I was not disappointed! I love cantaritos but I am often annoyed by the fact that restaurants only have the small terra-cotta cups. This cantarito was huge and delicious. I was feeling the alcohol a little bit by the end but I will say it wasn't very strong. Maybe could've used a splash more tequila. I ordered the build your own arroz con pollo and added grilled pineapple to it. It was a huge portion of food and after making my three tacos I still had tons of rice and chicken left. My husband ordered the Hawaiian chicken which was similar to what I got except his came with ham and he liked it also. Our dining partners ordered the pollo fundido and chili Colorado and both were fine. The food items were pretty standard for a Mexican restaurant and while they were tasty I wouldn't say they were anything uniquely special. The tortilla chips were good and fresh, the flavor of the salsa was perfectly balanced, and the queso dip was rich and cheesy. Is it my favorite Mexican restaurant in Ankeny? No. Would I come back and try other menu items? Sure! read more

Slow service. As a DoorDasher, I have waited up to 45 minutes on several different days for my orders to be ready when they were supposed to be ready by the time I got there. Couldn't get help from the employees and watched tables order, get their food, and leave by the time I receive my order for the DoorDash customer. Very frustrating. Ordered fajitas the second time but got no tortilla shells so had to eat without :( Food was hot the first time and tasted good, despite the missing taco. Stopped in to check out Cancun Grill and Cantina for dinner. Thrilled to have another option in North Ankeny! The food was good: I had the Chile Verde Pork which was delicious. Super tender pork and flavorful salsa verde. Huge portion! My husband had a couple a la carte tacos and he thought they were good too. Chips, salsa, and guacamole, along with a couple Modelo's hit the spot as well. All in all, your usual Mexican food but pretty high on the scale. Best part was the service.
