We've been here about six times in the past few months and have had great food and very good service. The quality of the food is consistent. The cheese dip is good and the chips are fresh and don't have the heavy lardy taste that so many places have. I love their super tacos with the fried shells. This is my second time dining here and it has been consistently amazing. The serving staff is always great. It is surprising to see how quickly they move when the place is crowded. They always have my order accurately done. While it is not a 5 star decor, it is always spotless and I appreciate that they don't cram too many tables in the room. This allows a sense of privacy so you can have a conversation. For some fun, try sitting at the bar to watch the wizardry of the bartender. The food is delicious and the serving are enormous! The first time we dined here I had the steak fajitas and my husband had a pork dish. When the food arrived we decided we could have shared one dish. We both took home lunch for the following day. Today I am alone, so will end up with leftovers. My favorite aspect of the food is that I have an option other than disgusting refried beans. Bland food. Slow staff. Mexican food can be so good and it is sad to experience it delivered so poorly. Place was clean!

First off, I visited this location 6 plus months ago- Not a positive one, said I'd never go back- and that was our first mistake. Greeted/seated quickly in the bar area. Server came instantly, offered water and drinks. Super! Great ambiance upon first arriving. We were waiting on 2 more, when they got there- we ordered. They forgot my father in laws orange for his drink- he specifically orders a captain diet with an orange slice. Everywhere we go. No worries- I go to bar to get him one. Also- one person at our table just got a spoon in her silverware, she did ask for another set WITH a fork, was brought another one with just a spoon... for th 2nd time. I went to host and specifically asked for a set with a fork. Problem solved. Being in the industry, I don't mind helping. Very minor details. Easy fix. Then....... Our server has the audacity to come up to me and ask me to "please not leave the table to ask for things I need- it makes the server look like they aren't doing their job. Welp.... You aren't!!! Lastly, I ordered a fajita quesadilla with chicken and steak mix, my lovely server brought me out a fajita with the mixed meat. Not a huge deal, but we were at a tiny ass table for 4 people when you get 4 waters, 4 drinks, chips, queso & salsa bowls. I stated that I would have never ordered that sat at that tiny table, because I know fajitas take up so much room. The server said- " all I heard was steak and chicken fajita". Didn't take my plates, didn't say no problem, let me get this fixed for you right away... nothing. Basically- I'm stuck with it. Maybe they need to take those damn ear buds out and actually LISTEN to wha their guests need. Not a lovely experience- I should have listened to my gut and not went back. Ps- I'm usually not a Karen. Just skip this place. There are plenty of better Mexican restaurants. The salsa tastes like it's straight out of a can, I had the taco salad with tasteless, not seasoned ground beef. The best part was the lettuce. My husband had a tasteless chicken burrito with water downed straight from a can sauce. Not worth the money at all. read more

They just opened last Saturday so we stopped by for lunch on Monday. The service was spot on from the entrance to our server. Wife had the taco salad with the fajita chicken and I had the chicken fajitas. Both were delicious. Definitely recommend this place and we will be back. read more

I took my family here last weekend and it was ok. The food wasn't hot but thought we would give it another try. We went again and had a small issue that turned into us paying for our drinks and chips then leaving. If you go here do not ask for anything different like 2 corn tortillas and 2 flour tortillas with the fajitas. We ended up asking for the manager because the wait staff really didn't understand what we were asking which is fine. The gal that came over was VERY rude and not willing to accommodate our request. She was VERY unprofessional and an embarrassment to the restaurant. For the price of a 10 cent tortilla she lost our business and will never return. There are too many good restaurants in the area and we don't need to be treated like that. read more

Lack of transparency in pricing. According to the manager, the prices for Waukee are $3 higher for tacos al pastor. The tacos were the worst tacos al pastor I've ever had. The salsa roja... I'd rather eat a can of rotel. The rice and beans were completely void of seasoning and flavor. For $20.32 for 3 "street tacos", Guadalajara was a complete disappointment. I also question why the pricing varies from Ankeny to Waukee while both are suburbia. Also the manager tried to "upsell" me a margarita twice while I was waiting to pick up my to go order. The food was horrible. When I called for clarification on pricing I was hung up on. The second time they told me they didn't know where the manager went and "maybe he's in the bathroom." Been looking for good New Mexican restaurant and we tried Guadalajara for lunch today. As with all new restaurants, you hope for great food and our excitement was short lived. Service was acceptable and we both ordered the lunch Chicken Chimichanga. The Chimichangas were incredibly small and the chicken was impossibly dry, overcooked and the accompanying beans and rice were flavorless. This place just opened and may be going through start up issues but the portion size and quality of the food served today will likely keep us from going back. read more
