I have known the gracious Israel Campos and been a loyal customer even in two previous locations for 25 years. Food was good although I recently learned of page after page of health code violations they have. Public record. Patrons beware. On July 3rd, 2016, my elderly companion and I strolled in for an early dinner at 5pm after visiting a nearby 4th of July weekend craft fair. Israel was not present. The dining room was empty except for us, and there were patrons dining on the outdoor deck in back. We were seated and shortly after our beverages order was taken, Julio Campos the bartender alerted the staff not to serve us and tell us we had to leave immediately. As we got up to leave Julio screams at us (in front of two waitresses, the one who served us who's out on probation for a felony, and a third woman who came out of the kitchen) to get the hell out of his restaurant and never come back, he doesn't serve Trump supporters. I was wearing a Make America Great Again cap. We left and ate elsewhere. The next day my story was all over the news locally and nationally, on nearly every news station, the Internet, Facebook ( restaurant page and son Chris' timeline) , TV and radio, with Israel and son publicizing that we were thrown out for being intoxicated, rude to staff and disruptive. They hired a well-known civil rights lawyer but I chose not to sue for defamation of character, emotional duress, libel and slander because I didn't want to get a heart attack, I already have an arrhythmia. I was sick for the following 4 months from the stress of the nasty fallout. There was no video camera evidence or calls to police about a rowdy couple to corroborate the face-saving story of the Campos family. Business has been booming from the publicity and their rally of supporters garnered the press and maybe 100 people who freely called me a racist and worse. Why would anyone deliberately try to get thrown out of a favorite restaurant?? I finally called Israel to see if we can put this behind us and he refused, insisting it was me who should apologize. read more

First off, by far one of the best places I have ever came to eat in. I am seriously the most detailed Mexican food critic and will literally always have at least one bad thing to say about any place, period! I can easily tell you right now that this place is completely at another level. first off the customer service is amazing, the people here are very traditional and will always make you feel like family! Second, it seems like they literally went all the way deep in Mexico to find the most traditional chefs because every single bite from this food tasted like the best I had ever tasted in Mexico and I actually not only used to live in Mexico for many years but go there almost every month to eat and visit friends so I am completely aware of what the best food there taste like. Their sauce that they make should be sold on store because it is just unreal and If you do not like this place it is simply because you do not like Mexican food or do not know how it is supposed to taste like because I am as real traditional Mexican as they come and will tell you that this place cannot get any closer to actually being from mexico itself, amazing and delicious!!!!! This place is great! My family and I have been going there since it opened in Sugar Loaf. We love it so much that our relatives buy us gift certificates to the Cancun Inn every year for Christmas. The staff is very friendly and go out of their way to make customers feel like family. Seriously, how often can a person go to a restaurant where they know the owner's name? My 6 year old daughter always asks to go there to witness Israel, the owner, do magic tricks at our table. He goes from table to table to personally great each customer while they're eating, even though they have a wait staff. Julio, the bartender, is always full of smiles, laughs and jokes. He makes incredible red and white Sangria. The food is always fresh and tasty, whether it's typical burritos, enchiladas and tacos, salad, guacamole or any specialty dish. Everybody please look at the 13 other reviews that are "currently not reccomended" most of them are 5 stars. Cancun Inn is an exceptional restaurant with exceptional food and sensational service!! The best, most authentic Mexican Restaurant in the area. The atmosphere is very fun, the drinks are delicious and strong. We usually share a half pitcher of red sangria. When you are seated everyone in your party gets a cheese quesadilla, occasionally an appetizer if it's on the slower side or if they recognize you, chips and salsa. All complimentary. Your dinner orders are out in front of you in less than ten minutes and the flavors are always, always amazing. To end off, they give everyone a complimentary fried banana and honey dessert and shots of tequila with the check (we usually decline those), again, all complimentary. This place is great. read more

The food is alright. Not the best Mexican food but hey its not located in Mexico. What do you expect? The dishes themselves do not really have a traditional taste and are a little too expensive for a restaurant not located in NYC. I would say the food is more closely associated with Mexican American cuisine. At least that is my experience. The restaurant is quite dark inside which makes it sort of hard to read the menu during my time at Cancun Inn. When I used the restroom the toilet was quite dirty. I'm from Texas so I expect the best in Mexican food when I eat out. I'm spoiled back home. Having said that this was mediocre food. The sauces were lacking enough seasoning, just tomatoes IMO. The margarita-frozen was ok, but nothing special. The atmosphere is nice enough. I had chicken quesadillas that had a little grisly pieces, the main reason for my 2 stars. There's no need for that except lack of thorough prep. Husbands meal was ok, but we are used to exceptional green sauce, & didn't measure up here. Location is nice, ambiance nice too. read more

Sat waiting at the able for nearly 30 minutes before even being asked what we would like to drink. Then the server walked off before we could tell her that we would like to order. Five to ten minutes later, we received our drinks and were finally able to order. The staff is very inconsiderate and the food was extremely greasy. The only positive thing was that they brought our check before we were done eating so we were able to pay and get out of there. Still hungry, we opted for some ice cream not too far away. read more

Excellent dinner tonight. Had Tres Amigos: steak, chicken and shrimp in a garlic sauce. Tender and tasty. Sangria was solid. Husband had Gambas (shrimp) and steak, and reports it was delicious. We have eaten here a few times and had great experiences each time. The sangria is delicious, the nachos excellent, our meals superb. The atmosphere was inviting and the staff were all very polite. We sat outside and were able to hear the music from a lawn concert across the street and it was perfect. Prices were good, and we will definitely go back there again. read more

Went to the Cancun Inn for the first time yesterday. We were greeted like old friends or family, they couldn't have been nicer. We had the best white sangrias the best house salad and our entrees were large in size and very tasty! We'll definitely go back!! read more

This is the best Mexican Restaurant in Orange County. It is family owned and run. The service is excellent and the food is authentic and delicious. My favorite is the sea bass and shrimp in garlic sauce. I highly recommend you try this place. read more
