So much fun. How to describe not only a wonderful meal in a wonderful setting with good friends new and old? Pulling into the small rough gravel parking lot edged with overgrown wild plants and flowers (more on these later) belied the experience that awaited a first-timer such as myself, my companions on the other hand had been here many times. Of our large group I was the first to enter and was greeted by the smiling face of Israel, the owner. I said "we're a little early" to which he replied "no my friend, you are right on time". We asked for seating on the deck and he escorted us there and introduced us to Holly, our waitress. Friendly and gregarious, she was full of great advice on drink and menu choices and after very leisurely enjoying our cocktails we placed our orders. She took all 15 orders and after another leisurely round of drink, salads and appetizer our meals arrived exactly as ordered. Everything looked fantastic and tasted amazing. Even though it was Saturday night we never felt rushed because we weren't. We're a loud but fun bunch and Holly and Israel only added to the sense of this being an experience rather than just dinner at another restaurant where you order, you eat, you pay, you go. After a complimentary after dinner drink Israel came to us and sincerely wanted to know if we had enjoyed ourselves and our meals. We had of course. He then stayed and told us stories while he performed a short magic act that had us in stitches. After three hours we paid our tab and reluctantly left making plans for the next time we'd visit Cancun. As we were leaving I noticed Holly heading down the stairs to the parking lot with scissors in her hand. Remember the wild plants edging the lot? Feel the need comment. FOOD is Horrible not to mention it's not fresh. Nuggets for the kids are store bought, can't even be bothered to make it fresh. 22 dollars for fish tacos is outrages. Yes staff is friendly but the quality of the food is another thing. Simply over priced Mexican food.. point is you can go to a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant and it's cheaper and foods is amazing. And I've had Mexican food here in New York California and Mexico and not the tourists parts. Save your money look up YouTube videos how to make Mexican food easier and fun. I had the vegetarian plate over priced for rice beans and tortillas to be honest so I would never go back there ever. As painful as it is to say I rather eat Taco Bell well actually not really just save your money. This is a great place with a nice deck for outdoor dining. The food is cooked to order and very tasty. Nothing prefab here. Where else would a small inexpensive house salad include goat cheese, cranberries, walnuts and sliced pear - besides the usual lettuce. The appetizers were out of this world (we didn't have main courses), I highly recommend this place for the food and the ambiance. My husband and I stopped here for an early dinner after spending the afternoon at the Sugarloaf Spring Festival. I can honestly say this was the worst Mexican food we've ever had. We should have saved ourselves $50 and picked up an Old El Paso taco kit at the supermarket, because that would have been way better. I had the 3 taco platter for $15.95 (pretty high price even if they'd been good tacos) and I got 2 beef tacos that were dripping with grease, in what seemed like stale crunchy shells from the supermarket, and 1 chicken that, well, all I can say for it is that it wasn't greasy . All 3 had a pinch of cheese, a bunch of shredded lettuce, and about 1/2 teaspoon of some taco sauce on them. The platter came with refried beans that tasted like they came straight out of a can, and yellow rice that was flavorless. My husband had the fish tacos, which was a daily special. Needless to say, they were not special. They were unseasoned fish and lettuce. Not a piece of cilantro or even a wedge of lime to be found on the plate, and all for $22! The only thing he liked was the salad that came with his dinner. The only good thing I can say about the place is that it's charming to look at, in a nice location, and the service was friendly, although they took so long to bring us our check after we requested it, that I actually tipped less than I normally would have. I don't usually tip less for bad food, only poor service. After all, the waitstaff doesn't cook the food. This place would be a good candidate for one of those restaurant rescue shows. We will definitely not be going back. read more

This is not Mexican food. Everything is sweet like they add sugar to all of the sauces. The salsa tastes like a bad version of Pace. The enchiladas tasted more like a bad Italian dish. We ordered the guacamole and it tasted like it came from a previously frozen vat. The only thing that was mediocre was the taco, but again covered in sugary red sauce. Although its not any worse than any of the other Italian / Mexican restaurants in this area. The ambiance is dirty, unorganized and cramped. Staff / service people were pleasant. read more

The setting; cozy ,comfortable and colorful. The staff was so friendly ,in the best sense of the word,not over bearing. The very best thing though was the food, I had one of the combination dishes,chile rellanos, enchilada and taco. Everything was so well prepared and fresh . Cancun Inn has THE best Mexican food around. The location (in Sugar Loaf) is a bit out of the way but definitely worth the trip and being able to enjoy their food from the comfort of the deck is a nice touch. Great food...great service..been going for years and it's consistent...never disappoints

We are guilty of passing right by the Cancun Inn everyday, multiple times per day and never thought to try it. Thankfully we broke that cycle tonight! The food is EXCELLENT! The guacamole is simply perfect; distinctively better than other mexican restaurants in the area...and Mexico. We were simply blown away that such delicious and authentic mexican food was right down the street. We have been to Mexico (not the resort towns with Burger Kings and Dunkin Donuts) many times and know what true Mexican food tastes like. This place could have been lifted right out of Mexico and planted in Sugarloaf for us all to enjoy. I ordered the special, which was sea bass and shrimp in the tastiest garlic sauce ever. This was not on the regular menu, but probably should be. To date, one of the best fish dishes I have had at any restaurant. Both owners and staff made the meal even more enjoyable. Everyone and anyone who enjoys truly good food should eat at the Cancun Inn. read more

First time eating there was ok, not much room. Second time, the food was so so, I guess. The worst part was that they lost my credit card and the owner didn't really care. He had his employees look for it while he tried telling us jokes. He never offered to take anything off the bill or offer us free coffee or desert, meanwhile we are a table of 9 just wanting to get out of there. When we left we saw the owner outside walking a dog. They have yet to call to say they haven't found it or offer an apology. Pathetic!!! read more

What a jewel this place is! Happened on it by accident and feel so lucky to have found it. The food was good and reasonably priced. One of the siblings who own the place waited on us - he could not have been more gracious and accommodating! Such a pleasant man. He even explained that the inn doesn't open until 2pm so that the deli across the parking lot can get its lunch business done before he opens the restaurant! Definitely recommend! read more

While drinking a Sangria which was very tasty I noticed that the outside deck looked grungy. It had not been really cleaned in quite a while. We ordered the tacos combination which comes with refried beans and rice. The refried beans and rice were just edible and lacking in much flavor. The tacos were just ok. Started to rain so we went inside. Just as we were finishing I notice a cockroach on the wall near my chair so I immediately got up and prepared to leave. Imagine my disgust when I realized that a dead cockroach was on the chair upside down where I had just been sitting. Apparently, I was sitting on it. Duh. I guess my initial thought about the place needing a good cleaning was the understatement of the night. Not going there again. And the owner really tries too hard to be friendly. We went there for a dinner last Friday night. I was invited there for an anniversary dinner. The weather was gorgeous and we had reservation for 7pm. We arrived at 7 sharp. We wanted to sit outside so we did. The appetizers - chips and salsa were very good and not too spicy. Guacamole was delicious as well. The grilled Norwegian Salmon in a sweet'n'spicy sauce was to die for... Sangria was excellent too. Everything went well and at the end the owner came out and showed us some magic tricks. The tricks were really good and performed as by a real magician. Especially the trick with cards, salt and disappearing napkin in an owner's hand. Then they lit the Tiki Torches on the outdoor deck and the atmosphere got even more romantic. We all got free alcohol at the end ( complimentary Tequila, Amaretto and Peach Schnapp mixed together in a shot ). It was my first time there but it was a fun night. The food was excellent and I will definitely be back there for another great dinner experience. read more

We came here on a Wednesday night for dinner, we were in the area and we wanted to try it. They weren't busy at all, most tables outside were full and only one other table inside. The food was good but the service was horrible. It took 35 minutes just to order an appetizer and we had to ask someone to come over so we can order! There were so many people working, yet we had no idea who our waiter was. We had one person take our drink order, one person brought us salsa and chips, and someone else came over to take our dinner order. I had to constantly ask for refills of water when I feel like that should be something that is filled automatically. They don't have free refills on soft drinks. We asked for more salsa and chips and it never came. Our daughters meal came out first, then two more meals and then a few minutes later my meal came out. We thought the food was flavorful. It came out hot and it was good but by the time we got out of there we were there for an hour and a half, for Mexican on a weeknight? I think we will choose another place next time. read more

Had lunch here today. Yelp says open at 11:30, sign on door says open at 2:00. We were early, but they were open by 1:00 and ready for business. Food came out quickly, was hot and tasty. GF had red sangria that she said was OK. I ordered top shelf margarita, and I have to say it was really bad. I had high expectations from a Mexican restaurant, but no luck. It was unrecognizable as a margarita, but GF said it kinda tastes like skinny girl margarita? If you want lunch the food was good, but I'd pass on the drinks.
