We arrived early and went to the front desk to ask if we could check in early and they were rushing us to pull out our passports to take pictures of them, to only tell us they would call us up when we could check in. At 3pm, they still weren't ready for us to check in. They ended up calling us a bit later. The room was a little dirty when we got in with hair on the shower wall and the room very humid. The mini fridge in the room also wasn't plugged in, and when we did plug it in, it didn't get very cold so our fruit was spoiled. The gym was not great: 2 treadmills, one bike, cable machine with one single arm attachment, and dumbbells. Bad service and bad experience. I wouldn't stay here again.

RCRM will shuttle you there, upon request, every 2 hours. Or you can walk, I am told, or take one of there free use bikes. Security is very high, a VG thing, I suppose. However, that means everyone you meet will be other tourists or staff. After about 2 days, it felt like imprisonment, for lack of a better way to describe it, to exclusive IMHO. Prices make it exclusive enough and the security levels adds to that. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the atmosphere and the hotel staff is very gracious and easy to deal with. There are many accurate reviews about how great the Marina shopping is and they are correct. Lots of excellent food choices at the hotel and Marina. However, every once in a while , you want something plain, like a plain hot dog. That was almost impossible to find until we stumbled upon and OXXO stuck in a corner of the Marina. If you don't like the hotel beer prices, also go to the OXXO or 7Eleven across the street from the hotel and Marina.

The hotel is located next to the Marina Puerto Cancun mall. There is a direct passage from the hotel to the mall, which is great when it rains. I took Didi to get here, and my driver got confused and took me to the mall parking lot, so beware they need to follow Google Maps and drive to the back/the other side. The room is well-designed and has a lot of details that are thought out. I really liked the lighting in my room, closet, and bathroom; the scale in the bathroom; the full-length mirror; the fridge hidden in the wooden cabinet for a seamless, unified design; etc. I also reserved the jacuzzi on the 12th floor, and sitting in the jacuzzi while looking over the marina view was amazing. There's also an infrared dry sauna by the jacuzzi, and both are located in the fitness center restrooms. There are lockers and towels, so you don't have to bring your own towel. The pool by the lobby also has chairs to enjoy the view of the marina. When I went to the lobby the next morning, they had an event serving rosca de reyes and hot chocolate for free. I had been wanting to try rosca de reyes, so it was perfect. The bread was good. Sadly I didn't get a mini Jesus in my portion. Next time? What could be improved were the pillows. They were too soft for my liking, and all the pillows were the same softness. Some hotels would have pillows with various firmness levels on your bed. The bathrooms in the sauna and jacuzzi area also needed to be cleaned when I used the facilities. I also wish there's a complimentary shuttle to the airport.

That's hard to do with 3 planes of angry people in front of you! When I went to the bar to get ice water to hand out, they jumped in with trays, and helped me pass out the water. That was friendly of them! The restaurant stayed open late for our fellow travellers. They replenished the food. Once through customs the mandatory duty free shopping walk through, then the tour section. I got grabbed by a sales person with the idea of helping me find my transportation. Once outside it became a free for all with a lot of shouting and yelling to offer transportation. Thank goodness I pre-arranged mine. Exiting the country went smoothly as well. TSA did a passport scan and ticket validation then through the line. Only large electronics had to be taken out, liquids could stay in bags. Seamless process and I liked they had about 10 different lanes open so there were minimal lines. Back through another duty free shop before entering the terminal. I found it interesting gates were not pre-assigned soooo like Penn Station, a group of people would move together once departure gates were announced. The terminal was pretty small and walking around was easy. Lots of food options and as that most were American restaurant. And no book store just one small section at a store. Lots of snacks, and small souvenir shops. Probably one of the only airports I've been to with ample seating.

When combined with the biannual $300 AMEX hotel credit it netted my 3 night cost down to $150!! Good value if you do not want to pay extra for an oceanfront resort with direct beach access and more amenities. The first thing you notice is how long the walk is after getting off the plane. The hallway seems to go on forever, so hopefully you do not need a restroom right away because it is a trek. Customs itself was surprisingly easy. We scanned our passports and got through pretty quickly, although the machines seemed pretty finicky and took a few tries for some people. The biggest downside is what happens after customs. The second you walk through, it turns into nonstop sales pitches. First, you go through duty free where it feels like every few feet someone is trying to stop you to buy something. Then after clearing customs and declarations, you walk into another area packed with people trying to sell tours, hotels, transportation, and excursions. Finally, once you make it outside, you are greeted by what feels like a thousand taxi and transportation companies all trying to get your attention. The airport itself is functional and the customs process was efficient, but it can feel overwhelming and chaotic once you leave the secure area. Just be prepared to politely say no a lot.

Personally, I always pick Air Margaritaville because the service is dependable and the food is decent. There is also a Bubba Gump's and more. There are places to buy snacks for your flight. There are "duty free" mega stores with everything you can think of. There is a shoe store! There is even a Ray-Ban store with crazy prices (think Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer sunglasses Gen 1 for $700 when Sunglasses Hut USA retails them for under $299). There are lots of Mexican souvenir shops, but also with crazy prices. Tshirts were in the $32-$42 range. Even fridge magnets are $7+. There is ALWAYS a line for restrooms. Cleanliness varies by location. Mera Business Lounge sucks. Always a line - unless you are paying. If you are using your credit card perk for entry, they won't have a place for you. Paying $35? Go right in! Pretty much everything here closes between 7-8pm. If your flight is delayed or later than 8pm, there is no place to get food or drinks. Plan accordingly.

We DIYed the entire day to keep costs low for everyone. We got quotes from several other companies used to dealing with tourist groups and the prices were exorbitant (tourist upcharge?). Then we contacted Touring Coach and got a very reasonable quote off of them, as well as very quick replies. Only thing was, we were a little skeptical that it was too good to be true. As 30/40-somethings these days, we just automatically look online to verify a business before sending them our credit card number. The website is gorgeous, marketing materials look legit, but we couldn't find an external review of them ANYWHERE on the internets, which made us a little uneasy. (In hindsight, this is probably b/c their clientele are more Mexican corporate clients and they have an established client base there, not relying on internet referrals. We were no doubt outliers that we were United Statians contacting them directly in Spanish.) The endgame: The bus was clean and beautiful, the driver was prompt and professional, the pricing was reasonable. Can't ask for much more than that. I wanted to write this review just in case anyone else ends up in the same situation, a little uneasy that it's too good to be true until the bus shows up at your doorstep. We couldn't have been happier with our experience and highly recommend them!
