I reached out to Candice a few months after the birth of my 2nd baby. It was the second time I was experiencing a low supply. When my second little love was born and I was having very similar issues as I had with my first, I didn't bother looking too much into it thinking there was nothing to be done. I had reached out to some other lactation consultants with my first and I found it wasn't super helpful. All I really got was "pump every 1.5 hours." Everyone needs an IBCLC but not all IBCLC's are created equal. We were referred to Candice by a friend (also one of Candice's clients) after things went WAY SOUTH with our previous IBCLC. My goal was to EBF my LO and our old IBCLC steered us so wrong everything started to snowball into a huge mess and got us so far away from our goals. My nipples got so damaged that there was a short period where I couldn't even hold my baby comfortably because the pain was so excruciating. I kept having all kinds of issues. I was ready to give up on breastfeeding entirely and was exclusively pumping and bottle feeding. What. The. Heck. My LO had ties and tension from womb position and it was clear our old IBCLC had no idea how to navigate BF with these hurdles. That's when Candice came in. She was so loving, kind, and encouraging right from the start. She took us under her wing and taught us ALL the things. We striped everything away and started over. She asked questions and she LISTENED. She helped us unpack everything we were doing wrong (at the guidance of our old IBCLC) and not only did she help us correct things, she EDUCATED US ON WHY. It wasn't just "do this, do that". Candice took the time to EXPLAIN everything she was telling us and WHY. She provided research and evidence to help us make informed decisions that were OURS. She was there when we needed her and was so thorough in every single detail and step. She was also very proactive and helped us catch issues before they happened or got worse. And she gave us multiple options and routes to take to get to where we wanted. It's clear she's very educated in this area - she KNOWS what she's talking about and has juggled many many different situations and scenarios so she knows how to act and act QUICK when needed. I have a fast letdown and an oversupply. I'm also prone to clogs and had a few that got dangerously close to full on mastitis and Candice was right there by my side walking me through it all. And the most important thing - she turned this all around for us VIRTUALLY. We're not in the same state so we never did in person / in home visits. That alone is impressive enough.
