Our boy didn't end up having a tongue tie, but the exercises and recommendations from Dr Pinto and Anna Gross were invaluable. The whole process was professional, friendly and smooth. The office it's self is light and beautiful, and set up with everything you could possible need for an easy appointment (Boppy nursing pillow etc) and all the staff are wonderful. Dr. Pinto's so wonderful. Her staff is so sweet and very accommodating. I was freaking out that my daughter's poor latch was starting to impact my milk supply and I had suspected that she had a lip tie but during our consult, Dr. Pinto pointed out her tongue tie as well. My baby's 3 weeks old and was able to do the procedure same-day, took 2 minutes and she nursed right away. She was fussy for a bit later that day, but the following day, she was back to normal. Highly, highly recommended. They do not accept insurance but you can take the superbill and submit it to your insurance for claims. I knew my son had a tongue tie pretty early on. However, my pediatrician, lactation nurse, and even an ENT specialist with my HMO refused to do anything about it. I asked advice from my online mom group and Dr. Pinto was suggested. I'm so happy I called. The process was easy, I was able to use my dental insurance to pay for a majority of the procedure. Dr. Pinto was warm and explained everything. Upon our first appointment, she examined my son and confirmed the tongue tie and even identified a "saddle" tie on his cheek. She took him into another room, did the procedure and brought him back to breastfeed. We returned a week later for a follow up and since everything has been great. Dr. Pinto and her team are AMAZING!!! Both of our young daughters were evaluated for lip and tongue ties. Dr. Pinto is incredibly experienced and skilled. She recommended that one daughter do the procedure and said the other one did not need it. Through the evaluation, consultation, procedure, and follow-up process there was great care and personal attention from Dr. Pinto. She coordinated with our occupational therapist and even called and texted a couple times after the procedure to see how everything went. The procedure itself was quick and I think pretty painless. There was some crying (which is harder for the parents, hahaha). No crying afterwards though! There was very little bleeding and the wound healed quickly and incredibly cleanly. The office environment and staff are purpose built to help families, and mainly, their kids feel happy and comfortable! Highly recommend a visit to Dr. Pinto if you suspect a tongue and/or lip tie. Her office is so modern and clean and cut and the staff incredibly welcoming. I brought my toddler and we were ushered into an exam room within 2 minutes of walking into the office and offered a beverage. The room had a diffuser and live plant, beautiful view and squishy floor mat. It felt very comfortable and yet still very much like we were in a clean medical setting. The doctor was prompt, despite the office being busy. She listened to everything I had to say, did her exam and gave her opinion and the procedure was done on the baby in the time it took me to use the restroom. I was cash pay so I cannot speak on the insurance handling that a lot of people mentioned. Parking is pretty bad I believe the structure is around $19 for a short time, $30 max. But I knew ahead of time and opted to come early and look for metered parking. Found something super quickly about a block away and didn't mind the walk. Dr. Pinto is very knowledgeable and experienced and came highly recommended by my IBCLC. She's extremely breastfeeding friendly which is huge. When I went to her office my 4 week baby couldnt even be laid flat because he'd scream from reflux. But with the help of Dr. Pinto tongue tie release, OT and chiropractic work after the release he was a different baby and he could finally lay flat and clicking stopped while feeding. I brought my second child in for an assessment and release, and although I had been through this before with my older child, Dr. Pinto walked through everything with us and helped guide us every step of the way. She is so generous with her time, and willing to have follow up visits or calls to ease any concerns with healing. After a few months I brought my child back in as I thought she still had some oral tension, and Dr. Pinto recommended a revision which we did right there. I honestly can't recommend Dr. Pinto enough. I've also had sessions with Anna Gross, the in office SLP/feeding specialist. Anna is truly amazing, and a shining example of how every provider should be. She is beyond generous with her time, and has spent more time on the phone with me than anyone else I have worked with before. She understands how hard it can be to have feeding challenges with your baby and her level on empathy is unmatched. I have brought both of my children to Dr. Pinto and she didn't recommend a procedure for either of my kids. My first child had a tongue tie that was treated by my Pediatrician at birth. After weeks of low weight gain and trouble feeding, my Pediatrician and lactation consult recommended I see Dr. Pinto to see if the tongue tie had re-attached potentially causing our feeding issues. After a thorough assessment, Dr. Pinto gave us oral exercises to strengthen my child's oral movement rather than recommending another procedure. A few weeks later, we were feeding great! My second child was referred to Dr. Pinto after trouble transferring milk and low weight gain even though she had been checked by multiple people and we were told she didn't have a tongue tie. Upon a thorough assessment, Dr. Pinto also advised against treatment and we were feeding great a week later. What you can expect when seeing Dr. Pinto is a warm and welcoming environment where you feel extraordinarily cared for and supported during a time that can be really stressful for a family. You can also expect a thorough and honest assessment. It would have been easy for Dr. Pinto to recommend a procedure on both my kids but she didn't. Our little one was so miserable and we could not figure out why. She had terrible colic and reflux the first 3 months of her life. Her pediatrician gave us two options...medication or wait it out. I hated the idea of starting an infant on daily medication before understanding the route cause, and waiting it out would have been miserable for all of us. We also tried seeing a pediatric chiropractor, which provided minimal improvement. As first time parents, we had never heard of ties until we switched to a new IBCLC who was well versed in them. The moment she took a look inside our baby's mouth, she recommended that we see a craniosacral therapist and a pediatric dentist to assess her for both a lip and tongue tie. Her thought was that our little one was suffering because she was taking in too much air while nursing due to a poor latch due to multiple ties. We spent about a month seeing a craniosacral therapist and then chose to see Dr. Pinto based on availability and reputation. We are in South Orange County, so it was a bit of a drive, but we are so happy with our decision to see Dr. Pinto. The procedure was quick, and our little one seemed most upset by the fact that she was separated from us rather than procedure pain. We noticed an improvement in her colic almost immediately. Within a few weeks, her reflux symptoms were also dramatically improved. She is now 6 months and the most smiley and happy baby around. Dr. Pinto was attentive and had great bedside manner. I researched tongue tie extensively and joined the facebook group and figured out that I wanted to get it cut. I found Dr. Pinto online and went to her. She diagnosed tongue tie and lip tie, and lasered it right there. We did the stretches for a couple weeks and all is good. We did do crainial sacral and worked with a lactation consultant after as well. I also ended up getting my 2 year old done. I have put off writing this review simply because its hard to find the words that encapsulate my gratitude for Dr. Pinto and her work. Our midwife noticed our sons tongue tie at birth. We consulted with an IBCLC who confirmed and referred us to an ENT Doctor here in the Valley. We took our 10 day old baby into his office, only to be met with laxity and curtness, no sort of empathy or tenderness necessary for brand new parents. He did no prior assessment of his mouth, barely answered our questions and basically tried to usher us out of his office as fast as he could after completing the frenectomy. To top it off, he offered no instruction on post-op stretches or exercises to be completed. Flash forward, 5 weeks postpartum, and our latch issues were worse than ever and my supply was starting to plummet. We consulted with another IBCLC who informed us that his tongue reattached AND he also had a lip tie that was not diagnosed by the ENT. My husband and I were floored, to say the least. At this point, I was so desperate to save my breastfeeding journey and so utterly distraught. Every feeding session had become an absolute nightmare full of pain and lots of tears. I started researching oral ties and thru the magic of Instagram I found the Breathe Institute and Dr. Pinto. From the moment we stepped into Dr. Pinto's office, I knew we were in good hands. Dr. Pinto (and her whole team) offers such a warm and personable impression that automatically seems to relax your nerves. I also appreciated that she was a new mom herself and really made me feel heard when I expressed my anxieties and fears. She really took the time to listen. After she did a very thorough assessment of our son's mouth, she explained the procedure, answederd any questions and gave my husband and I time to discuss with no pressure. Mind you, we did hesitate on whether not to go forward seeing as we had already put our baby through the procedure once before. Ultimately, we trusted her assessment and moved forward. I was impressed with how the procedure only took a couple of minutes and we were encouraged to breastfeed right after to help with soothing. Unlike the first doctor, Dr. Pinto showed us how to do the post-op stretches and had us practice them to ensure we did them right. I'm not going to lie, this part of the recovery was TOUGH for me but it's crucial they get done. (I made my poor husband do them). Along with the stretches and exercises Dr. Pinto recognizes the benefit of a holistic approach and recommends body work to complement her treatment. We saw Sara Mangano for Cranial Sacral Therapy and Heather Valinsky with Nurture Family Chiropractic. Lastly, she requires 2 follow up appointments that are included in the fee, not to mention, she called the day after the procedure to check in, as well as, one month post op along with an email a few months post-op. I was really touched by her genuineness and passion in making sure our breastfeeding woes were behind us. I am truly indebted to Dr. Pinto for safeguarding one of the most precious experiences of my life, that is breastfeeding my son. Not to mention, his oral development and full function of his mouth is awesome. We are now 6.5 months postpartum and his latch is just great and he's thriving. I would have never believed breastfeeding would ever be this "easy" now. I wish every mom who is struggling the opportunity to see a caring and competent doctor like Dr. Pinto. There isn't a day that goes by where I don't take a moment while feeding my son to pause and say a little word of gratitude for this privilege. Ps.
