I've been coming here regularly and usually make an appointment. Walk-ins are available, but I try to plan ahead. The service can be hit or miss -- and unfortunately, today was definitely a miss. I was the last one seated for a pedicure and somehow the first one finished. My nails were barely filed, and there was no attention to the skin around them -- no proper treatment at all. It felt rushed and careless. Only in chair for 20 minutes for a pedicure Yes, I'm a man -- but I pay the same price and expect the same quality of service. I usually tip 40% because I believe in rewarding good work and being a loyal customer. It was extremely painful and ended up ripping off my actual nails! I received service by Judy. I've been seeing her often. I asked for specific design and was able to get that. She's very kind and the price for what I paid is very reasonable. This is very much like any other nail salon except much larger in the offer massages. I visit this location at least every two weeks for a fill. I would definitely recommend Judy. I've also had my nails done by Tina and she did an amazing job. I will say their phones were down for a few days, which did not make it convenient for setting up appointments. read more

Man I have a story for you. I will not be returning to this establishment. They charge more for a pedicure for no reason. It seems fantastic in principle, but honestly, I would never spend nearly $100 on a pedicure. The decor is great, but this is hardly the Ritz-Carlton Spa or the Salamander Spa To add to my evaluation, I scheduled a pedicure and manicure appointment for 5:45 p.m. I arrived at my appointment on time and was told to choose a color and sit down. I waited in the lobby for fifteen minutes. At 6:00 p.m., three women arrived and announced that they had a joint appointment. All three women were directed to the rear room for their pedicures. Meanwhile, I was kept seated in the front waiting area. I was directed to the back room around 6:05 p.m. after informing the nail tech or hostess that I had a 5:45 p.m. appointment. I was sitting in a chair, letting my feet soak. The previous three women were given pedicures by nail technicians. I'm still soaking without a nail technician. At 6:45 p.m., a lady began assembling her belongings and starting my pedicure. Side note: The water had gotten frigid by now. The pedicure was nice, however near the end, it appeared that it was closing time, so the nail technician began rushing and stated that there was an issue with the polish I chose. I was fed up by then and urged her to apply clear nail paint on my toes. Later she asked only pedicure? I then said , "well of course now it's only pedicure but my appointment was set for a manicure and pedicure but after waiting 1 hour?!" The nail technician stated that it was a holiday, thus it was busy. I then replaced by saying it would have been good to know I wouldn't be able to get in rather than scheduling an appointment and stating that my service request was possible. After I got up, she said, "Oh, you are pregnant." I rolled my eyes and paid without leaving a tip and left the salon immediately. Let me make it clear that I expected to pay at least $200 plus a generous tip for a pedicure and manicure. Eh it's a little below okay. $45 for a plain gel manicure is too much. Person who did my nails didn't even properly dehydrate my nail beds before with alcohol. Also didn't clean under my nails??? Stuff I would expect froma $20 gel manicure. They rush you through color selection which is the best part, and don't show you their full gel color selection. Their polish also seems old and a bit goopy. With that said, my nails still got "done", but don't know how long they'll hold up... Candle Day Spa in Frederick is my go-to place for massage. I've been going there for about 10 years and am impressed with the efficiency of their operation. They are consistently polite and accommodating on the phone (yes, a person actually answers!) and welcoming upon arrival. I've noticed this particularly with the owner. I'd not visited there for a couple of years, and when I arrived was greeted with a genuine "Hi Paul, we've missed you." The place is definitely clean including the bathrooms which is always important in my estimation. The waiting area is quite small, although I've never needed to wait more than several minutes unless I arrived early. My wife often has her nails done there which appears to be their speciality, and is always pleased. Admittedly, prior to the pandemic i used to get a facial and 90 minute pedicure along with my massage. Yes, I'm pleased with Candle Day Spa and would visit more frequently if it wasn't 35 miles away. read more

This place used to be my go to. But in the past 2 years, they have slowly over charged and stopped providing services on the menu. They up charge for everything for example, Won't do French manicures unless it with gel polish, even though French manicure is on the menu. A guy did my nails and was aggressive, he kept getting upset when my hand moved. This place looks pretty but it's a facade. Rude, nasty, unprofessional, unorganized, and just not nice people. We get our nails done to relax not argue. Given the current trend and environment when it comes to nail shops and minorities I am purposefully QUIET. I don't want any problems. The person who did my dip powder with tip was exactly like that IG video where she tells the client her finger is the problem not her horrible job. First issue: she snaps at me without saying hi "what's yo color?" I tell her black she says it's not enough bc my nails are extra long and it's gonna be $5 extra (no they're not--that's code for a minority with tips added). I choose another color she says "bad luck" this one is almost finished too." I look at her she said "I'll mix it" Second issue: I tell her coffin & she demands that I show her a pic. I'm like "I wasn't prepared I figured you know what it is". She yanks my hand and files...I ask her in my nicest voice to fix slanted uneven shape and she yells "that's why I need a pic" I show her a pic & she argues that's what she did. At this point I just sit quietly and let her finish.l cause she's done too much already. Third issue: when she's done I let her know I'm not pleased in my nicest voice cause, you know. She gets loud with me and I'm entertained cause I already know I'm just gonna pay, leave a review, & file a complaint. Then she gets even louder and more fake authoritative as she adds up all my services. I tell her "you can deduct some of the cost as a solution, or I'll just file a complaint." Now she actually tells me "you CANT pay. I'm going to soak it off so you can't complain." In my nicest voice I say, "no you're not. I want to leave. If I leave without paying that's a problem. And if you refuse to let me pay that's a problem on you and this business." Now it's like four of them up there. She's acting like she can't add, so I add it for her and gladly give her my card because $105 is not worth my life in this state of affairs that we now live in. Now, I'm comfortably in my car taking pics of these ugly $55 nails ($5 extra because of the length). Look at this mess y'all. This is what they do here. Don't go here! Here's the lady that did my nails too. Happy manicuring & pedicuring! Oh yeah, I forgot to add that AFTER they noticed me looking around when the non ethnic people got offered bottled water they have me water after I was there for an hour and it was UNOPENED! Poor quality of work . I had been to this spa a year ago. I took my friend for her birthday. I had scheduled an appointment but the ladies helping us looked annoyed that we were there last clients. Typically gel nail polish last 2 weeks minimum for my nails. This gel started coming off 2 days later. I chose a white for my color. I don't know how old the nail polish was but it looked like I put white out on my nails. I was flying out for vacation so I could not go back to get them fixed. I recently came back to this place for a quick polish change and I met NiNi. She made me feel comfortable and didn't rush my service. My nails looked beautiful. I decided to come back for a full manicure and pedicure with her. The pedicure menu is the best I've ever seen in the area and they have some organic options too. She took her time and did a great job on both mani & pedi. Soooo I decided that I would come back for a full set of nails just for a formal event. NiNi is a boss at acrylics too. Usually I have to reshape my nails after getting home but she "nailed" my shape and I love them! NiNi is a true nail expert. We just wanted basic manicures and pedicures but they wanted us to spend over $100. Also, false advertising... on the menu it said a manicure was $15 and a pedicure was $30. IDK why it's taken me so long to finally write a review but here goes...first, the good: I was desperate for a massage and they were the only place around that had a same day appointment available so I gratefully took it. The bad: everything else. The massage room was a cold, unwelcoming room that had zero personality and a cafeteria bathroom vibe to it. Not at all like most massage locales. The person who did my massage was a tiny little thing with fists of fury and while I am all for someone working out kinks/knots on my shoulders, when it came across more as a sadistic experience for her to show me just how strong her fingers were, it was not enjoyable. TWICE I asked her to please use less pressure and the first time she totally ignored me. The second time, she told me that she knew what she was doing and that it was okay...and proceeded to continue to try and push my scapulas into my sternum. Nothing enjoyable or therapeutic about this. Plus, I KNOW where my kinks and knots are located and she was missing the mark considerably. When I went to check out (after waiting for an extended period of time), I noticed that the massage therapist had charged me for a deep tissue massage. I told her that I did not want a deep tissue massage, had not requested one and, in fact, complained about the level of deepness she exhibited. Bear in mind that the deep tissue massage costs more than the standard Swedish massage. She proceeded to tell me again that she had given me a deep tissue massage and I firmly told her that I would NOT pay for what I had not requested, had asked her to lighten up and if she refuse to adjust the bill, I would be taking it out from her tip. She reluctantly adjusted the cost. After going there, I contacted my friend who had mentioned Candle Day Spa to me and asked her if she had ever been there herself. She said yes, she had once but hadn't gone back because her massage was too rough and she had to argue to get her bill adjusted because--you guessed it--they charged her for a deep tissue massage when she had not requested one. I asked her why she hadn't told me that in advance and she said that she had hoped her experience was a one shot deal. I told her my experience was the same as hers. Wouldn't go there again if the massage were free. There are way too many other GOOD places around and just because they had same day, that's not good enough. Presumably, they have same day because other people share the same experience and don't want to book massages there--just my guess. read more

Great massage again. I love to get deep tissue back and neck massages here. I have a pinched nerve and arthritis in my neck and regular massages are the best thing for me. I visited this place to get my nails done for my wedding and the manager did a good job. I went back to get a fill in and she was trying to convince me to get a more expensive nail style, after I repeatedly told her I was fine she continues to do my nails. YALL... these nails looked horrible! She had to redo them after they dried because of how bad they looked. THEN two days later I realized they got worse (hence, the picture below is two days AFTER a fill in) when I requested them to repaint my nails the manager gave me SUCH a hard time. The manager even suggested that I bring my own nail polish???? Went here with my daughter based on some fb recommendations. What a mistake. Rude is really the best word to describe the atmosphere. From the moment you walk in (5 minutes early and are told to come back), to the guy walking around (manager maybe?) making you feel like the tech needs to hurry up to the next person, to the tech who got irritated when my daughter needed to go back and check her polish color number. We had appointments, but I still had to sit in a pedi chair for a half hour waiting for someone, by that time, water was almost cold. The tech was pleasant enough, but the polish they started with was old and clumpy. So I asked for a different one and the reaction was my feet getting roughly doused in remover. Then the same was true of the next color. It looked like I painted my nails, which is never good and why I go to someone else. My daughter was getting a gel manicure while I was in the pedi room. Her experience was worse. After her wait the tech (who we believe was the female manager) was rude, rushed and did a HORRIBLE job. The gel polish was on her skin so peeled after just a couple days. All of this for $75 not including tip. The cost wouldn't have bothered me if we actually got services that were worth that much. Don't go here. EVER. read more

After my last experience at a nail salon, I'm so pleased with the cleanliness of Candle! The techs unwrap the tools they'll be using from a sealed package and the pedicure chairs and tubs appear to be spotless as well. Candle is a little more expensive than the average strip mall salon but much less than a spa. I think it's well worth it! I got a classic manicure and a white tea pedicure. The pedicure took about an hour and was very relaxing. $45 is a bit of a splurge but I thought it was worth it. My tech was Amy and she was very friendly and through. I'd probably ask for her again. She also waxed my eyebrows and I love how they look! A minor qualm is that I called in the morning and scheduled a 1:30 appointment. I waited out front for about 10 minutes, and then another 10-15 in the pedicure chair. I wasn't in a rush so I didn't mind the delay at the time but if I had a schedule to keep, I definitely would've been put off. Still, I had a wonderful relaxing experience (and most importantly, SANITARY) and will absolutely be back! read more

Where do I begin? This was the absolute worse service I've ever had in my life. The owner Amy tossed my hands around. She was also rough and abrasive when she clipped and filed my nails. She rushed so much that she clipped the tip of my finger instead of my nail. She filed my nails so unevenly that I (an amateur) could have done better myself. When I tried to make small talk, her responses were almost hostile. When I indicated that I didn't want to continue any of the services (that I wanted to pay for what she'd done and leave), her colleague referred to me (a black American) as a monkey. BEWARE...INFECTION AFTER HAVING NAILS DONE. I have been twice to this establishment. I have been getting my nails done for 25 years. For the first time in a very long time my nails chipped on the 8th day! Ok so I decided to give it another try. The second time, my pointer finger nail started to throb and began to turn red and swelled up. It hurt so much I stuck my finger in a glass of ice water and took Advil. Still my finger was throbbing. Had to seek medical attention. I got an infection! This occurred within 8 hours of leaving the Spa. My finger hurt for several days. I had to put a cream under and around my fingernail for 14 days!
