Good service; horrible food. This is hands down the worst food I've ever had at a restaurant. The kids Mac n cheese is store bought (still had the powder and had to keep stirring in the cheese). The meatball appetizer is frozen and microwaved (plate is burning hot; meatballs still cold). The guacamole was watery with way too much lemon (probably to hide it from turning brown). The waiter was nice and did what he could to keep everything running smooth even though everyone received their food at different times. Absolutely nothing was edible and we politely just left everything on our plates without complaining. I'm surprised that some people in our party thought their food (steak) was good because I tried it and it was not. I told my wife this restaurant reminds me of the ones that would be on the kitchen nightmares show. It may have been a good restaurant at some point but the food is subpar and quality is at its low point. The only thing keeping this restaurant afloat are the regulars. read more

I've been to this place several times since they remodeled it a few years ago. I really like the fact that they have a large variety of food, although I can't seem to get past the Mexican food menu items. The portions are large and the food is tasty. And I like their private booths, something they had way before COVID. In summary, not a gourmet experience, but that's not what they're trying to be. They do have a good atmosphere and good food. So far I have ordered from here several different times and have yet to get an order correctly made. Last time my husband ordered the Everything burrito which is supposed to be a high plate covered size burrito with what else but everything on it! Only he didn't get that, he got a small burrito with beans inside and lettuce and tomatoes on top, nothing else. He also added jalapenos and didn't get those either. This was the second time they messed up on this particular item. In between they messed up on my order. Don't remember what it is called but it's a baked potato with taco meat and cheese and and a salad with guacamole and a slice of onion and black olive. I asked for no cheese I'm allergic to cheese, and extra onions, olives and guacamole but nope. Got cheese! And No extras! I even told them we were willing to pay extra for them. We have decided not to continue to ordering from there until their reviews improve. An Classic Arlington restaurant opened in 1957 . It did close down for a while but opened back up several years ago. I try to go at least once a month but have been slacking on that. Well another great place for dinner. We were here 45 years ago and I know I posted a Yelp review but I could t find it today! Not sure why? The server suggested the steak and she was right on. The small filet was an excellent choice and the baked potato was great also. So drinks, chips and salsa and a steak. How can the night get any better? I gave it 2 stars because the staff was really nice but the food was mediocre at best. The place is tiny and dark but has charm. Our table ordered a steak and a mexican combo plate. The dinner salad was prechopped lettuce with a teaspoon full of chopped tomato, served in a tiny bowl. No cucumbers, onions, or flavor. The baked potato was small and came with obvious shaker style crunchy bacon bits on it..but it was a potato and you can't really ruin one. The steak was cooked to the right temp but had zero seasoning. A little salt, garlic or pepper would go a long way towards fixing it. The mexican combo plate tasted EXACTLY like a cheap frozen microwave meal. Same consistency and lack of flavor. Rice was dry, beans were bland etc But like I said, the staff was so darned nice and welcoming. I can understand why they have regulars. We wanted to check out this place based on the history and uniqueness of it. No one knew what they wanted for dinner, so the fact that this place had salads, Mexican, burgers, steaks, and Italian meant that everyone could find something they wanted on the menu. You get chips and salsa at the table. But don't let that sway your decision to get something other than Mexican food. We sat at a booth. You'll find writing on the walls, red check tablecloths, and the old table jukebox. Unfortunately the jukebox is out of order, but they play some good music over their system and you can adjust the volume at your table. We had the Everything Burrito, spaghetti with meat sauce, and the chicken parmigiana that came with spaghetti and a small salad. The chicken parmigiana is grilled chicken with cheese and sauce and you pick the type of sauce you want on your spaghetti and I got the full order instead of the half. Service was good. We didn't have to wait for a table. Mercedes was nice and attentive. We were stuffed, so no dessert. This will be an option in the future for one of those nights "whatever" is what everyone wants. read more

I don't generally write reviews of five stars for a place this casual. However, the service by a lady with the name of Skittles began the. lunch and she was unbelievably friendly and helpful. We ordered her recommendation of the chicken fried steak with the baked potato and the wonderful bowl of beans and were extremely impressed. Nothing has changed at the Candelite! It is still as wonderful as it was 30 years ago, when we first started going there. The Mexican Steak is excellent and done exactly as we requested also the guacamole salad and green sauce are amazing . Our waitress was so attentive and anticipated our needs. Now that we are seniors, I'm so glad they changed the entrance, making it easier for us to enter. My only complaint is the front door is so hard to open, that someone might think the restaurant was closed. I actually saw someone start to leave but looked at the time to make sure. My husband and I were trying to figure out what to go eat for dinner and we thought of one of our favorite places that we haven't been to in a long time, only because it is a little far away. We decided to make the drive over and order our favorite.... nachos and spaghetti. We sat down in our booth and had one of the best waitresses you will ever have. Her name is Misti and she is amazing!! You never have to ask for anything.... she takes care of you! Great personality and just all around a wonderful person. Candlelite Inn is always an Arlington staple. Not sure if I can find any other place that offers burgers, Mexican, and Italian all in one place. The inside is pretty so but you can tell they have really cleaned the place up since reopening. The mural on the wall is an excellent representation of Arlington. It pays homage to all the sports teams, Chase Bank, General Motors and other great Arlington restaurant staples: David's Barbecue and J Gilligans. Hit these three and you have hit the real Arlington staples and ones that have been around longer than you can imagine. Now why 3 stars? The food is just so so. I am not sure if my taste had grown up but the food is nothing extraordinary. The chips have no salt and the salsa isn't spicy. The spaghetti with meat sauce is great though. You can't mix that up and I like the option of a half order. The garlic toast is Texas roast with a bit of garlic. My dinner mates loved the chicken fried steak. They said it was the perfect size. I love this place and will always go back even if the food isn't always 5 star. read more

Food was old and nasty, rude service the whole time even more since only one other table was there then Nikki decided she didn't like her tip and wanted to chase me out the door to complain and then accuse me of doing it all the time. We walked into Candlelite Inn last week for dinner, near a concert we were attending, to find familiarity. My husband instantly remembered he had eaten there as a kid; let's just say that's been a hot minute! This restaurant has been around since the 50's. (He's not that old, but still...) At first glance of the menu, I felt a little like Gordon Ramsay, seeing the menu is huge with an incredible range of items offered. Deep in the heart of the Cowboys Stadium's shadow is a little place where you can eat dinner (or lunch!) by votive candlelight. For me, the food is straight-down-the-line-average. The menu has an incredible variation for a hole-in-the-wall, so you shouldn't find a problem finding anything to eat-- the ultimate definition of a jack of all trades and master of none. Drive by this place at night and you're dazzled by the bright neon lights and huge lit sign screaming CHARCOAL STEAK. Heck its even bigger than the name of the restaurant and all you see is that before you ever figure out the name of the place. It MUST be good! Boy they sure know how to sucker ya. Out in the parking lot, it was packed with cars. Upon walking in the restaurant, i maybe counted 4 tables of diners. Had i been hoodwinked? Or perhaps its so dimly lit, i cant see inside all the private booths. Maybe all those cars are there for some other event across the street. Regardless, I'm seated at a private booth and I make it clear to the waiter all i want is a steak. I ask for the best one. He points at the menu and shows me 5 different options of steak. Unfortunately, they're all the same steak. Only the options/sides are different. So you have a choice of sirloin and baked potato. Or a sirloin with spaghetti. Or a sirloin with mexican rice. Or a sirloin with mushrooms. Good luck if you want a T-Bone. So i say give me the charcoal steak. He says they're all charcoal steak. It's cooked over a flame grill. Hence charcoal steak. To my dismay, i look over the menu more carefully. Then he points out he can give me something off the menu. He has either ribeye or a filet in the back and its not listed. Now that intrigued me. I'll take the ribeye. And the baked potato with all the fixins. Done deal. I'll munch on these complimentary chips and salsa while I wait. I should've just made that my meal and i would've been happy. First course: House salad. The salad came out in a little sauce bowl. The lettuce was chopped up like cole slaw. In fact, just imagine you're eating cole slaw with lettuce and ranch instead of cabbage and you get the point. Main course: The steak. The waiter brings out my dish and says thats the biggest steak he's ever seen. Maybe its because its not one big steak, it's two. It's like the chef cooked me a steak and then saw that it was too small so he then took another slice, cut it in half, and then cooked me another piece. So i got a slice and a half. And they werent even cooked the same way or evenly. The main slice looks like it was cooked properly on the charcoal grill. With the grill marks and everything. The second slice looks like it was microwaved. Nary a grill mark or a spot on it. Oh did i say nary a spot on it? How about nary a spot of seasoning. I cant taste a hint of pepper or salt or seasoning or dirt. Perhaps I have covid and cant taste a thing? It's like the chef tore open that valuepack of steaks from kroger, threw it on the grill, and out came to me 10 minutes later. When he asks you if you want any steak sauce with that, dont skip it. You'll gonna need it. Imagine eating flavorless eye of round. Same thing here. At least it was cooked to medium rare. Or maybe it was so dark in there i couldnt make out the color. It was very surprising he got so much grill marks on there and still managed to get it medium rare considering how thin the steak was. It had to be cooked in medium heat for awhile so the grill marks can form for so thin a steak. Definitely wasnt flash seared at 1000 degrees. Side: Loaded baked potato. And boy was it loaded. Cheese, i think bacon bits, and a ton of sour cream. A TON of sour cream. So much sour cream i think it was a bowl of sour cream with bits of potato in it. I could tell the potato was hot because i felt the heat from the bottom of the foil. But every bite i took was cold because all that was on the spoon was sour cream. There was so much, i had to scrape all of it off to the side just so i can have a whiff of potato. Garlic toast: You cant mess up garlic toast. It was crispy and flavored very well. The final insult: The total bill came out to be $28 for just the steak and a coke. The sirloin on the menu was $17.99 so how much was the ribeye?. I was dining alone during lunchtime. If i had gone to texas de brazil, their lunch buffet is $24.99. Lesson learned. read more

On the 8th day, Candlelite Inn opened it's doors. This place has been an Arlington staple FOREVER (just look at some of the other reviews). Before you read on with this review be aware that this place is not very wheelchair accessible. I know it looks like it on the outside, but when you open that door and see those 3-4 stairs that you have to climb, then the 3-4 stairs you have to go down just to get in the dining room you'll probably think twice (surely by now they have a option to get around those stairs, right?) Ana d. is so.. right about this place (it is dark... and really dark in the private booths), the place hasn't seen a renovation in a long time (or ever, I'm not sure really), the menu is ridiculous (I'll explain in a sec) and the food really is sadly average. One thing that I always mention when I'm talking about Candlelite Inn is the menu. I mean where else can you get a Hamburger, Steak, Mexican food, Pizza, Italian food, Salad, etc. in one place. And if I was able to have the menu right in front of me, I wouldn't be surprised to find some kind of Chinese food on there as well. :D Anyhow, it's a changing world out there and unfortunately Candlelite Inn is still stuck in the past. I only hope that people are still going here enough to keep it around for years to come (heck, they should put a historical marker on that place). read more

I can honestly say, without hesitation, that the Candlelite Inn is my favorite restaurant in the world. I'm from Southern California, but every time I am in the Fort Worth area, I make multiple stops here. Why? Well, I've never had even an ordinary meal here--everything is outstanding, from the glazed pork chops (my favorite) and the amazing steaks to the burgers and the to-die-for homemade desserts. We ordered the grilled smothered chicken which was way over cooked and tough covered in a hard piece of provolone? Ordered the pizza which was just okay could have skipped it. Some friends of mine invited me here and I have to admit I was unimpressed at the look of the place at first. As I walked in, the lady at the desk offered to help me find my friends. Super nice! Got a pizza for lunch. Big mistake. They claim their crust is made from scratch. Maybe so, but it's nothing to brag about. It tastes like DiGiorno frozen. And DiGiorno is mediocre (at best) pizza. For 14 bucks for a 9 inch, I expect a pizza that tastes way better than the best frozen pizza, not exactly like one. The best of the best! I've dined at this fine establishment for over 40 year's. Great food and service along with live entertainment from some of the best local musicians and entertainers. The menu will please almost everyone. Mexican, American and Italian cuisine are the main attraction with a gigantic selection in between. I have my favorites but am still trying new item's as well as the traditional. Candlelight Inn is an Arlington ICON and should be treated as so!
