Unfortunately, we've attempted to pick up our candles on three separate occasions, and each time the business was closed. I also reached out via email and never received a response. After multiple attempts with no communication and no way to retrieve the candles we paid to make, the experience became very frustrating. While the class itself was fun, not receiving the finished product completely changed my overall impression. It felt very unprofessional and, honestly, a bit scammy. I hope they improve their communication and ensure customers can actually receive the products they've paid for

From the moment I walked in, I had concerns. When we arrived, there was only one employee working. The lighting was very dim, there was little to no air conditioning, and although the music selection was good, it was much too loud. The appearance of the first staff member was not professional, and about 30 minutes later another employee arrived looking as though she had just woken up from a nap. Our candle-making class started late because the staff seemed disorganized. Several guests ordered food and drinks, and the drinks took an extremely long time to arrive. When I ordered food, no one informed me that I would have to wait until after the candle class was over to receive it. Ironically, the only food allowed in the room was food brought in from outside the establishment. During the class, the room was hot, dark, and even had a broken bar stool. The instructor often stood 5-6 feet away from the table and provided very little hands-on guidance. Most of the engagement came from the participants rather than the staff. Atlanta Hot Glass is a very, very cool place (no pun intended). It is the first glass blowing…read morecollective I've ever been to and it happens to be in East Decatur not that far from where I live. I first learned about Atlanta Hot Glass through the Emory Alumni Association, as strange as that may sound. I'm an alum of Emory (in case the comment above didn't make it obvious) and when I received the latest newsletter about upcoming events and goings on, an event about an interactive glass blowing night caught my attention. Fast forward two weeks and my boyfriend and I showed up at Atlanta Hot Glass, owned by Emory alum Susan Chin, and were introduced to the fascinating world of glass blowing. Let me tell you, it's harder than it looks, but lucky for all of us (there were about 20 people there in all), the instructors were fantastic. In addition to helping us make our own blown glass ornaments, they showed us some awesome examples of what you can make once you've gotten more skilled at it. We learned how hot the glass has to be to be malleable (it's kept in a 2050 degree furnace), how hot the 'glory holes' are that melt the glass shards and color the glass (2200 degrees), how glass sculptures are molded and shaped and transferred to the oven to cool down, etc. It was incredible and eye-opening and really fun. I thoroughly enjoyed myself since everyone was so friendly and willing to answer questions and assist us. Susan's cousin was great because he explained to us what was happening as the instructors were demonstrating making different pieces and when I was making my own blown glass ornament, my instructor (whose name escapes me), talked me through each step and why we did it. Atlanta Hot Glass also offers classes, studio time and opens itself up to the public like it did for Emory that night, which is great. Even if you're not sure that's your thing, you can take a course or a couple individual classes to figure out if it might be. A big kudos to the Emory Alumni Association for organizing this event and to Susan for kindly opening her studio to us. It was a fantastic and unique way to spend a Thursday.

After visiting the website, I called and spoke with Susan. She was extremely helpful and gave me lots of information. I chose the "Hands on Experience" for nine people. The process for payment and scheduling was very smooth and professional. Upon arriving, our team was greeted by the instructors, Lee and Jeremy. We were given safety tips and general information about glass blowing. Then we jumped right in. We had a blast! We each created a glass piece (paperweights and ornaments) and had a true "hands-on experience". I highly suggest this activity to large groups and small! For large groups I suggest keeping the pieces simple to allow time for your entire group to have a chance.

We chose our designs prior to class and were presented them when we arrived. Just like the last class, everything was laid out and the live step-by-step instructions are easy to follow. It was so fun to see our creations come to life! They partnered with "If These Boards Could Talk" who guided us through making a charcuterie board while we followed along with the ingredients provided. And because there were 2 people celebrating a birthday, L&L even had a cake at the end! Vibe: LaToya and Linda of L&L really make you feel like family coming into their events. Their space is warm and inviting, just like their personalities. At the beginning of each class, they talk about how the business came to be, which I appreciate. I love how interactive and engaging their classes/events are, and I know I'll be back for more!

We were a group of several couples so each couple created 1 rug ($75 per couple). That worked great for us, I think it would have taken us longer for each individual to make one, and it allowed us to use teamwork. You start off with a short safety demo and a chance for everyone to quickly practice. Beforehand they send you template options so you know what you're creating. They also let you send a custom design which is what I did. This was such a fun new experience! Once you get going it's pretty relaxing. You will need to return in a few days to pick up your finished rug. FYI, you can't see any signage from the street, but it's right next to the ice cream shop. Parking: paid street parking and a few paid spots right in front of the business.
