This place was one of the only places in Old Sac that was still open after 9pm. We walked in and I literally felt like a kid in a candy store. Wall to wall bins of everything you can think of. From old fashioned candy to Salt Water Taffy, to a counter of chocolates (and sugar free chocolates) to fun flavored drinks. Just be careful, you can grab a little wood basket and fill it with whatever loose candies and you have no idea how much money you are spending as it is priced at the end by the weight. We were greeted immediately when we entered, welcomed, & able to freely browse a huge variety of sugary treats. They offer candy shop staples, tons of taffy, lots of Pez dispensers, chocolate confections, Mexican candies, old timey sweets, novelty items, candied bugs, & more. Found new items & flavors of candy I never knew existed! They had dispensers for specialty m&m colors and Jelly Belly flavors, though the area was a bit cramped behind a staircase. The check out experience was good. We were kindly given a freebie candy necklace that made little one happy. Personal issue here--I'm not a fan of clowns, let alone evil looking ones, so having a life-size figure loom from the second story loft creeped me out. Visited July 17th..see my receipt. This candy store is located in Old downtown Sacramento (waterfront). It's a really big store with alot of nostalgic candy. This place is OPEN until 10pm and that's one of the reasons they stay so busy! Most of the candy shops in this area close by 6pm. You could spend alot of time in here looking at all their goodies! I bought some gummy bears...chocolate...watermelon slices and this really interesting freeze dried ice cream sandwich (the kind Astronauts would use). The freeze dried ice cream sandwich was almost 10 bucks but I thought it would be cool to try! The employees seem to be generally having a good time and the customers seem to be excited to go down memory lane and find candies they grew up on! Always a fun experience! read more

There were no prices on some of the candies available. It was quite expensive for how little candy you were getting. The honey sticks were cool, there's lots of flavors I've never seen before. Some candy buckets did not have expiration dates, not sure if they were safe to eat. No samples were given. No interaction with staff until we paid. Been going here for years as a teenager/young adult. Lately the Quality has seriously gone Downhill. Candy has gross stale taste and is expensive, the owner is outright disrespectful and a bit off to customers he seemingly doesn't like. The employees understandably watch you like a hawk when you're shopping but it does make the experience quite uncomfortable when it's a heavily tattooed grown bald man who doesn't say a word to you. You can get waaay better retro/nostalgic candy for a much better price at other shops in old Sacramento and you can support much better business owners I bought a sweet tart squeeze tube and FOUR cotton candy balls and it was priced nearly at 7 dollars - Save your money !! We have just come from two other candy stores and in retrospect we only needed to go to "Candy Heaven" He offered to get us a basket and when we checked out I asked about a specific candy and rather than pointing or directing he went and found it and brought it to me. If you're looking for a candy shop go somewhere else. Employees watch your every move as soon as you walk in making you uncomfortable while you try to look around. One particular worker stood at the middle of their staircase and watched us the entire time. My brother (10) got scolded for trying to look and the jellybeans. A worker came by and rudely said "you can't touch those" and made him upset. The barrel candy is about $6/half pound, which works out to be a lot of candy for any kid. There were unusual taffy flavors, some licorice chews I slipped in for myself, sesame crunches, and gummies every shape and flavor you might want: bananas, dolphins, teeth, eyeballs, turtles, LEGO bricks, etc. Priced separately were retro brands and sour slimes and specialty sodas. Etc, etc. It was a lot to take in. The kids liked the owner's sassy sense of humor and the freebies. It was a highlight of their day. read more

Candy heaven indeed! Yes, it is overpriced... but given its location it should not be surprising at all. Great place if you like taffy and want just one or two of each flavor to try them. They used to offer two free candies per person but apparently that has ended last year in November? No more means to try one or two of the taffys :( They have an eclectic choices of different types of candies and no short of them. They have some hard to find candies, nostalgic candies, unique such as insect and bug candies, and even some Mexican and Asian goodies. They also have a sugar free section. There are at least 4 dedicated candy/chocolate stores in old town Sac. This one anchors one end of the short 4-block strip and it is probably the largest. That's not to say it carries everything - in fact it's missing a lot of what the planet offers in the way of sugary treats but there's definitely something for everyone - from hard and soft candies and sours to nut/fruit-coated chocolates. The staff is Wonka-esque off-beat which is kinda neat. Prices are above average across the board and quality varies between average to above-average only, so you're primarily paying for location, presentation, and availability. My standards are spoiled though, as I hail from a locality with almost too many small/speciality custom confectionaries who exquisitely celebrate the unique - from dark chocolates made from scratch to ube and other exotic concoctions made farm-to-table. When we first walked in, a girl that was working there asked me if it was okay if my daughter could have a lollipop, she unwrapped it for her & gave it to her. There are so many candy shops in the Old Sacramento Historic District. Candy Heaven is a great one because they has such a diverse selection of candies and treats, even some novelty items. We got some chocolates (Dark Chocolate French Mint Truffle, Caramel Truffles, and Strawberry Chocolates). They were really good. We even got the chocolate covered scorpion, and just the scorpion by itself, as well as mexican spiced larvets (worm snax). I didn't eat the bugs, but I did try a piece of the chocolate covered scorpion, it tasted the same as crickets, but better because it was covered in chocolate. We also got a few other goodies, ie. classic fruit stripe gum, because this store offers so much! The only weird thing is the creepy evil-looking clown on the 2nd level, looking down on visitors (apparently they have this strange decor even when it's not Halloween season). read more
