I popped into this spot on a random Saturday morning to grab some chocolates for my wife. They had a huge assortment of truffles, from cognac to frangelico, creme de minth, and fruit flavors like orange, with both dark and milk chocolate caramel. On the left side, there were caramels and almond bark - just a great variety of stuff. The guy hooked me up with a box of 6 for $ 12 for the lady and even offered me a free sample. I tried the creme de menthe, which was excellent - I'm a big fan of mint. The dude behind the counter, Sammy, was super friendly, humble, and genuinely seemed like a nice guy. How is it that I lived in Davis for 5 years, never came to The Candy House, then on a visit back to Davis for a conference, I discovered this great little gem? I really should have explored the town more back then... Anyway, The Candy House of Davis is awesome. It's a little shop with a lot to offer. Lots of chocolate, lots of truffles, lots of fudge, lots of love. The guy who runs the shop is so nice - he clearly loves what he does and loves connecting with people. I ended up ordering a box of 10 truffles and got to pick each piece. Since it's Mother's Day this weekend, I also got to pick a cute little box and card as well, which was a lovely touch. This is an eclectic little chocolate shop on the outskirts of downtown, and I would highly recommend you stop by. You really can't go wrong with chocolate, so there's not much NOT to like about this place. We got 6 truffles and a chocolate covered caramel, and had a fun taste test among ourselves. I frequented this place over 15 years ago and somehow never wrote a review in that time (although I practically threw money at it because it's truly awesome). I recently returned and stopped by and the same gentleman was there. Not only did I get a BUNCH of delicious chocolate Truffles but he insisted on giving my 3 year old samples and she went from sulking to delighted. I've since come back twice and each time I love it just as much. I had to check this place out after receiving a box of truffles from my boss for Christmas. It's on third street just east of the train tracks in downtown Davis, and as soon as you walk in and get buffeted by a rich chocolate fragrance, you'll know you've found the right store. Their offerings go way beyond truffles. I bought a slab of English toffee which although delicious, I wished had more buttery toffee flavor (I docked one star). They have a wide selection of chocolate cast in different shapes: airplanes, roosters, the still-talking but severed head of Bill O'Reilly (just kidding on that last one). But do check out the truffles! Thirty different varieties of "the Pyramid Truffles of Le Chocolat Elegant" with a convenient key to their outside designs that reveals their inside treasures. These will be my secret weapons of mass seduction next Valentine's Day along with a bottle of Domaine Chandon's Blanc de Noirs. Try fine chocolate with this champagne and you'll know exactly what I mean. Being SUPER bored in Davis while the BF goes to class, I decided to Yelp a chocolate place and Candy House was my choice to go visit. Parking was super easy. Once I walked in, it was like I was 3 years old again! Chocolate EVERYWHERE! From the tables to the to glass cases. Every truffle and chocolate confection looked amazingly good! I got 3 truffles ( $1.90 each), vanilla, strawberry, and gourmet milk. The owner was so friendly and really helpful since I didn't know what to choose. We even had a small chat about SF and she even offered me not just a tiny sample but my choice of ANYTHING. So I got TWO whole slab of triple chocolate fudge (milk, white, and dark). One for me and one for my BF! So sweet. I've only tasted the fudge so far and it is by far the best fudge I've had in my life.. Really creamy and really good! Ever since the other Michelle (Michelle T.) introduced me to this little shop back in early undergrad, it's definitely a sweet stop when downtown. Sometimes this even meant going before dinner time as they close, and the closer you arrive to closing time, more chances of freebies -- Sunny is super friendly and generous. With every order you get a "to go" choice truffle or whatnot (my fave being the chocolate dipped Oreos or strawberries when in season)...not to mention the plate of yummy yummy fudge samples by the register. At the end of the day you could score much of that fudge, mmm. Their flavors are unique and set a high bar. The Kahlua, Grand Marnier, and Caramel are my faves. I live a good 70 miles from Davis but visit friends and always stop here. At Christmas I purchase multiple small gift packs. You can get 6, 8 , 10 or more pieces and they are the perfect way to say you're thinking of someone. I love the fudge! it's just so rich and creamy and delicious, but you shouldn't have too much of it. It's like butter, just melts in your mouth... oh my god just writing this makes me want to go there and buy some! oh right. they're closed right now! The truffles are good, but kinda big. I love the marzipan filling, the kahlua filling, and the orange liquore. I'm not a big fan of any of the white chocolates, but then again, I just don't like white chocolate.
