TLDR; This is the best nail salon I have found in Iowa city after having tried 4 others. The quality of their work, their friendliness, and attention to detail keep them well ahead of the all the rest. My nail artist, Louis, was exceptionally thorough, and did a spectacular job on my dip manicure. I love dip nails, but have usually been less then thrilled about how thick can look. Not here! My nails feel super strong, but they also look really lovely and so much more natural than any other time I've had them done. Finally, the prices here are so competitive! (I had my old dip manicure removed, a new set done with one tip for a broken nail, and only paid $36) My most recent set had cost nearly $50 and didn't look half as good as this set. Additionally, though they had 4 appointments scheduled, my friend and I were both able to walk in and out in just over an hour. (BTW, She loved her nail artist too!) They are also running a special from M-W of 15% off of any service over $25 through the end of Feb. 2020. We're heading back in for pedicures while the special is still going. read more

The majority of my experiences with candy nails have been great, and I really enjoy their atmosphere. They've even so much as redone a pedicure before letting me leave the store with it. However, I recently came in to get a dip nail redone and these were the results (the first photo was right after, the second a half hour after). The hand pictured doesn't even have the nail that I needed redone!! V disappointed, as I don't have a lot of time or money to get both hands redone. This was after I asked them to fix it also (so made the same mistakes a second time lol). I will probably go back as most of my experiences have been good. Still, not a good look (for me or them). Very pleased with this salon for a quick, well done manicure. My mother got French gels, and they did a great job repairing a broken nail, making it blend in with her other nails. They have an extensive color collection and hit all of the bases with their color options. Their price point is great as well--a normal manicure (not gel, just polish) was $14. I would have liked a lotion hand massage similar to most salons, but I didn't mind, as I was in a rush. Everyone at the store was pleasant and very helpful. I will return. read more

Don't let "granny" get anywhere near your nails. She is awful and hurt me. She made my nails too think, uneven and the acrylic hung over onto my skin. What a disaster. So disappointed. My daughter always gets phenomenal work done there. When we went I said, "just watch, I'm gonna get granny and it's gonna suck", ( because other friends have gotten her and the word is out to avoid her at ALL costs!). Sure enough, guess who I got. These people Vanessa Specifically take absolutely no accountability for their mistakes .. good nails are good nails that's a fact. But when the quality as far as them breaking lifting and peeling, is unacceptable especially if they're not willing to fix it depending on how long it's been but that's her rules. This Has been a issue too many times. Basically her work is hit or miss and after my latest inconvenience I will not be giving candy nails anymore of my business. I've been to most of the nail places in Iowa City and Coralville, and Candy Nails is by far the best. The staff is super nice, they get you in quick, their prices are reasonable, and they know exactly what they're doing when it comes to acrylic & gel. I have stayed away from getting a full set for the past six months or so because something always seems to go wrong with them when I get that from other places, but I could not be happier with the way my nails turned out when I went to Candy today. First of all they cost so much! their no chip, chipped the second day after getting them done and on one finger The no chip polish peeled completely off. I will definitely never return here. Busy - good or busy- convenient location? Definitely not good place. Ladies who did my daughter's and my nails were obviously in a hurry. My acrylic nail turn out thick and uneven. I was surprised when she starred to apply nail polish, when it was time to fix shape. I let her do what she was doing because I use to a better service where ppl know their job without telling them what to do. My daughter's first experience in a nail salon turn out bloody, older lady tore her skin off with a file and didn't apologize. My daughter scram so loud when it happened. Every time I get shellac/gel I am given an older lady who clearly is not very experienced and does not do a good job. It is way over priced in the first place $25 for shellac and for a terrible uneven job done. an extra $10 if you want to like an iridescent color which they call "unicorn powder". This was the worst salon I ever been to in my entire life I received a mani and pedi with gel polish the pedi was great as the tech was finishing up with my nails I mentioned to her that the color was off from the color on my toes she immediately went into defense mode she scooted her chair back and started ranting it's the SAME ITS THE SAME POLISH I said mam I know it's the same polish but the color is lighter on my nails she started screaming you have a attitude DO YOU WANT ME TO FINISH OR NOT The owner came over and finished the work she was aggressive with my hands but she applied another coat and they turned out exactly like my toes smh terrible terrible customer service I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND read more

Went in for some dip nails. Waited about an hour, which I thought would be a good sign that they were worth it. Was not impressed at all. It looked like a toddler tried to paint my nails. I went to another salon to get them fixed, they told me the technique they used was completely wrong and bad for the nail. I went to get a french manicure and pedicure. First, the wait was terribly long when I had and appointment. Then the guy who did my pedicure fried my skin off with the hot stones, didn't fully paint my nails, and didn't apply lotion. The lady who did my manicure used crusty white polish, made the white tip too thick when I reminded her multiple times I wanted it thinner, and then the clear coat that was used bubbled on my nails. I also was not impressed with the cleanliness. I will not return. read more

I went here as I was looking for a little more modern salon. It's a nice place, they do great things with fake nails, the special effects I saw them do while I was there were impressive. Unfortunately the basics are a little lacking. I had a pedicure and it was really just average. The nice lady was ok, but the edges weren't crisp, she didn't trim my nails just smoothed them a tiny bit and the overall look was more like I'd done them myself. I'll go back to my normal salon, Elite nails where they really pride themselves on an outstanding result. read more

I had not one but two bad experiences at this shop. The first time I got a no chip manicure at this place, the guy who did my nails rushed through it and didn't even leave my hands in the UV light for the full time. within 3 days, 2 of my nails had chipped completely off and the others were partially chipped and peeling, I called to get them fixed. I came in and got them fixed for free today but this consisted of the same guy peeling my nail polish off with his fingers, and then putting my hands in a BOWL of acetone for a long period of time (at every other shop i've been to they wrap your nails in tin foil to get polish off). And again, he rushed through my manicure and didn't even wait for the timer on the light to be done. While I appreciate them redoing my nails for free, I don't think they are following the right protocol and definitely won't be coming back anytime soon or recommending this place to others. read more

me and my family have went to them for a long time but today helped us realize we won't be going back. i got a very gorgeous look but the turned out rough. my nails have dips in them they are sideways and they are all different lengths. and they were $80 even when they were poorly done. they are completely new people and they messed up a lot. my sisters nails are super thick and even tho they are cute they are sideways and have dips in them. my moms nails turned our amazing and all together our nails were $120. that's a bit expensive for what we all got and how poorly they did. read more

I accidentally went close to closing but they still did my nails and I ended up being there 45 minutes after closing, but they didn't rush at all and still did a great job! I was in need nwhile visiting my daughter in Iowa city for a repair to my thumb nail and a gel manicure. We decided based on a recc from a mom in a store to try candys. Although nervous we had an excellent experience. My nail which broke mid nail was repaired with no visible flaw and the girl quickly gave me an excellent French manicure which came out perfectly and it was so fast ! So pleased as was my daughter. I had eyelash extensions done here two weeks ago. I have been having them done for a around six months elsewhere and was extremely surprised when I saw how full and false looking they were upon completion - usually he loves them, but my partner burst out laughing when I got home. I am used to the eyelashes falling out gradually one by one, with my natural lashes. Within a few days they began to fall out in huge clumps and became clear that instead of attaching one false lash to one natural lash - which is what I have been used to - the 'technician' applied four or five lashes to one lash and so I was losing up to five lashes at a time, stuck together in one clump. The result has been awful clumpy-looking lashes, with huge gaps. Usually after two weeks, despite the natural fall out, I still have a good amount of even lashes. Currently, les than two weeks later, I have a just few left in one eye and a few clumps of lashes in the other. They are totally lop-sided and I am having to use mascara on one eye to try to even things out. Because of the amount of lashes glued onto a single lash, they are falling out earlier and have left me with very few natural lashes. This is not the place for eyelash extensions - I doubt very much that the 'technician' has been properly trained. read more
