I have passed by the storefront and their life-size Willy Wonka artwork more than once and decided that this past Saturday was the day to open the door and actually go inside, especially before a 70MM showing of a long movie. Why get traditional candy when you can expand your horizons and try something new?! The store front is very organized and makes it fairly easy to find your favorites. The distracting part was looking at all of the options and seeing which ones you didn't know existed! I appreciated that the candy is pre-portioned in little bags so you can sanitarily grab one. I grabbed a bag of sour pickle flavored strips to give as a gift and a bag of red licorice scotty dogs for myself. (They were sold out of my favorite red shoestrings...sad day.) The employee, like, tells you about yourself based on what you are purchasing like a horoscope so it came up that the pickle strips were absolutely NOT for me, haha, and she took the time to add a lovely bow and put a branded sticker on it to make it more presentable--and at no charge, too! I posted them in my story and they were so quick to thank us for coming in--just above and beyond customer serivce! I look forward to visiting again when I am in the area and expanding my candy tastes! read more

This is the cutest store! I had to run and get some candy for a child's birthday and called Candyality ahead of time to confirm they had the specific type of candy that was requested by the birthday girl. The employee that answered the phone was very helpful. It's a treat exploring this store. There's some popular candy and some uncommon candy. I took my time looking around and even got myself a bag of candy. They have gummies, salt water taffy, chocolate, and even a large selection of black licorice. I got this delivered on Uber Eats and I didn't realize what the flavors were. It came with green apple, grape, and orange. I would have preferred the normal flavors. Green apple was ok, but the other 2 tasted like medicine. However, the texture of it was phenomenal. I had to tear it off and it felt like it was much more high quality than most cotton candy. I just wish the flavors were better. They also sent a sample of strawberry pretzels with the order, which I felt like was really sweet. read more

DISCRIMINATION My kids came home sobbing after they were verbally assaulted by a woman (whom knows who she is) at this shame of an establishment. My son was yelled at for admiring the candy. She told him to not touch anything. "Grown ups don't like it when it's all messed up" it was pre wrapped candy thrown into a jar. "Also 'adults' tend to steal. There are some really charming and colorful candy displays, including dresses made out of candy wrappers. The shop is super tidy, well-stocked, bright, and organized. I bought about 8 full-size candies in "vintage" brands like Chuckles, Wacky Wafers, Fruit Stripes gum, and Charleston Chews (they carry vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry!) Plus, I got some vanilla taffy and a bag of the select-your-own gummy treats. I love the Coke/7-up gummy bottles and mini gummi bears! Came to $26 after the 10% discount. Parking can be a challenge since this is on a busy street in a part of town with a lot of residential restrictions, but I found a spot a few blocks away. read more

My husband and I just moved to Southport Corridor from Old Town, and we've loved every aspect so far. Tonight while walking the dog, I wanted to stop and see what this place was about, but knew it might be too late (it was 7:57p). As we were walking up, the sole employee was about to lock the door. She immediately invited me in, and didn't seem bothered at all to have a last minute customer when she probably just wanted to go home. Not only was she unbothered, she was SO friendly and helpful as I browsed around. She even asked if she could bring my dog a treat while he waited outside with my husband. I was absolutely blown away by her kindness and friendliness when most people would have wanted me in and out at closing time. I could tell this place is so authentic and that the people that run it really care about making it a great neighborhood spot. She recommended some of her favorites and neighborhood favorites, and I ended up with dark chocolate covered raisins and dark chocolate covered peanuts (the best in the city she told me - and now I agree!). I will absolutely be returning, bringing everyone that comes to visit, and buying gifts for all the candy/chocolate/popcorn lovers in my life. I am so happy to have a place like this in our new neighborhood, and even happier to have people like this here too! The best part is that they match your candy picks with your personality and give you a little summary of what your pick says about you (Candyality-Personality, get it!). While this is a colorful and fun shop, and the staff have been pleasant every time I've walked in, the candy is way overpriced and doesn't "hit the spot" when you eat it. I got robbed at the candy store! The selection here is good, but the prices are outrageous. Make sure you read the price/weight labels carefully! Bulk candy is on sale here for more than double retail prices. You'd be better off buying from a gas station or drugstore. For example, Candyality will sell you 2 lbs. of gummi bears for $27, but you can get 5 lbs. for $19.50 at other retailers. I shopped here once and will never be back. I regret not just leaving my bag of candy at the counter once I realized how much I was being charged. read more

For you elders its just like when we were kids and went to the show. However in 2019 the clerk should wear a ski mask because they are robbing you. Theres a reason they dont list the prices with the candy so take a hint. And the counter girl was very sweet and friendly and the store was very nice but candy should not be priced like this. I like to consider myself a candy connoisseur. Every time I see a candy shop I have to stop in and see if they have anything interesting. Candyality is easily one of the best shops out there! They have an amazing selection and it's all displayed in a fun and creative way. Every candy is associated with a 'candy personality'. If you buy red hots, you might be 'fiery', etc. It's always fun to see if whether or not you agree with it! As with most bulk candy purchases, it's not going to be cheap. You'll definitely pay more here than you would at Walgreens or any normal store, but, on the other hand, you get to pick and choose exactly what you want. Besides candy, they also carry speciality sodas and during the summer they have snow-cones! Went to this store for the first time last night during the Southport Cocktail Crawl. While the cashiers were very pleasant, the employee serving the cocktails was quite the opposite. This woman was very condescending and had quite the attitude. I had some initial confusion, thinking that the cocktail was "self-serve", as other stops on the crawl had been. She was very quick to rudely correct me and then sarcastically said to a nearby guest that "Wow, you all sure have been thoroughly enjoying the crawl I see...the earlier groups weren't like this", insinuating that we were very drunk. This was not the case and even if it was, that is no way to treat people. She was acting as though she was so above us that she could say any rude comments she wanted and we wouldn't notice or care because she assumed we were drunk. Not sure why the store chose this particular woman to be in charge of the drinks. She made for a very unpleasant experience and I will not be returning to the store due to this. Disappointing because all the other crawl stops had very personable employees serving drinks, but definitely not here. read more
