    Cookies and Cream Milkshake
    Darren R.

While I enjoy milkshakes, I do believe the their idea of a milkshake falls short of the true essence of the desert itself. The milkshake taste as if it was just drowned in milk and barely mixed. I love supporting local shops , yet feel this wasn't the ultimate experience as to what Margie's has to offer. I believe they are way better, however this current experience wasn't the best . The service is great! Yet there is room for improvement . To charge nearly 10$ for a milkshake where other places can surpass that of their quality. I'm hoping for a more refined experience upon my next return.

Solid first time trying Margie's! Lots of different ice cream flavors, sundaes, and treats to choose from. In order to sit down, you must get table service, which I did not expect nor enjoy. We opted to get ours to go, and although it wasn't picture perfect, it did taste good! Could've used some more hot fudge and nuts, but overall a good ice cream sundae. Small storefront so that to go line is very cramped.

    Junior Hot Fudge Sundae

This place was never on my radar the six years I lived in Chicago (that said this wasn't a neighborhood I lived in or nearby). Thank goodness for my sister being local to this area now, guided us here after dinner! A hot fudge sundae might be my favorite indulgence ever. Seeing that on the menu and being on vacation I didn't give it a second thought. I'm glad I did ask for the smallest one, which the server gal had no problem giving me the junior (which was still big!) The sundae came with the hot fudge on the side, so I was able to pour a little bit at a time. All components were delicious. It seemed a bit odd that they made us sit and order at the table for eat in but maybe that is typical here. Service was pretty quick so it was totally fine and maybe added to the experience. Really it was a delightful time. I do feel the place could appear cleaner. I didn't notice anything specific that was concerning just kind of a general impression.

Tonight's experience was not as good as in the past. I still like Margie's but here's my review: Popped in tonight craving some ice cream. Margie's never disappoints for the multitude of sweets available. Lots of two seater tables lend themselves to even late night date night shared sundaes. I got a raspberry and fudge sundae tonight with cherry ice cream. Overall, it was good and the raspberry sauce was so yummy. The only negative is that this Sundae is $14 and I really only wanted one scoop (junior sundae). Two scoops is just too much at 10 o'clock at night. But the counter guy tried multiple times to upsell me to the full two scoop Sundae, telling me that he was going to charge me only one dollar less to get the one scoop sundae so I just might as well order the big one. So I just gave in. But I didn't enjoy the upsell experience, and that just feels like too much money for a sundae I only wanted to eat half of.

People that visit here for first time are expected to see this and be served like a full service restaurant??

I live in Edgewater, and haven't been to Margie's in over 15 years, but I recall it being iconic and memorable. My friend called and suggested icecream, and I suggested we go to Margie's! We show up at the Montrose location and this young girl shouts that orders are taken in the front! We're like, OK. My friend ordered 2 scoops on a cone. He got his order and went outside to sit on patio. I ordered a turtle sundae and he asked if it was for here or takeout. I told him my friend was already sitting outside. The same girl with attitude told the cashier that "they're already outside." She rolled her eyes because I gathered she'd not be providing full service and therfore not getting a tip. When she did bring my turtle, it was NOT what I ordered. It had bananas, butterscotch, and chopped peanuts. No caramel, no pecans. She didn't say something along the lines of "enjoy" or anything. Plonked the "turtle" down and walked away. Her little attitude will not keep people coming back. I certainly won't ever go there again! Zero hospitality standards!

Love the retro feel of this shop! The inside is smaller, so beware if you're with a big party and want to eat inside. There were three of us and we were seated right away. We ordered the turtle sundae and it is big! We were nicely given three wafers, one for each of us, which was a nice touch. There was ample whipped cream, hot fudge, and caramel. We got the cookie dough ice cream which was fabulous. There are so many other options that sounded yummy. This was the perfect size for three people - we left happy, but not overly full. I need to come back to try all of the treats!

Disgusting !! I just spent $40 on brownie sundaes and the brownies were stale. The raspberry milkshake I ordered tasted like straight up milk. Will Not be coming back

Lovely dessert spot - there's a huge menu to select your dessert from. Great service & you pay at the counter afterwards. Extensive ice cream flavors - would stay away from the strawberry sadly - but the cookies and cream, fudge, and bananas were tasty! Decent amount of seating and there's a private space in the back, so can imagine it's good for parties!

I also love that you can see back into the Candy Kitchen! So you know that all the Truffles and caramels and everything is prepared in-house and are super fresh and extra delicious! If you're ever near one of their many locations I encourage you to stop in! The coffee price point is actually very affordable, the truffle and marshmallow prices are truthfully probably comparable with like Godiva or Fannie May but they are made with much higher quality ingredients.
