We go to Destin each year and look forward to Sexton's Smoked Tuna Dip... always came back home with a few containers for us and more for friends. probably the best we have had. But they changed... Evidently Sexton's changed their recipe, and it doesn't taste bad... it just doesn't taste. It's REALLY bland and not worth buying. Save your money and find another fish market. Ridiculously overpriced products (fish fry is $9 for the exact product you could buy at Walmart for $2). We purchased a red snapper, scallops, and head on shrimp. We were told there were about 12 scallops in each container and found there to be half that amount in each. The containers they're stored in have water, which caused it to be difficult to sear the scallops (even after letting them sit on a paper towel). The gall bladder of the red snapper we received had been sliced open and left in the fish, causing it to smell bad, which we noticed while we were cleaning it at home. There were only three fresh products to choose from (red snapper, scallops, and shrimp). The lobster and crab were frozen and imported. Will be driving the hour long trip to Joe Patty's next time read more

I'm late in posting this review, but if your undecided about which seafood market to visit in Destin, you can't go wrong with Sexton's. Especially if your looking for shrimp, scallops, crab and red snapper in season . We have been to lots of seafood markets and many fish mongers in various locations and never have gotten the quality of seafood that we received here. We were able to cook better food at home than what we had eaten at any of the local restaurants. Also, I'm pretty sure they will pack it to travel if you want to take some fresh off the boat seafood home from vacation. read more

This place had a variety of fish and other seafoods. The staff was a bit rude and didn't really talk to us. We asked them to remove the scales and fins, but they were left on. The prices are a bit more expensive than we expected. The fish was fresh as it could be and they gave us ice to pack our coolers. read more

We arrived, only to immediately have our hopes dashed, since we were on the hunt for stone crab claws. They informed us they were currently priced out of their maximum willingness to pay to stock them. Well, now what? The whole place was meticulously clean and well displayed. The super sweet staffer strongly suggested we at least try their popular smoked tuna dip. Score! That container didn't last 24 hours. (Scratch your typical thoughts about canned tuna. We have been trying to find a restaurant with good delicious grilled fish and I honestly haven't been able to find one so my husband told me he would be the chef and make it for me, and in this place you can find fresh delicious fish to eat and other varieties of sea food. I would definitely recommend this place if you like to cook yourself. Glad we found it! This is probably my least favorite seafood market in the panhandle. I've given them 3 chances so I'm done, I'll go to others close by. 1. Cash only. It's 2020. The prices are the same or more than other markets that take cards. Who carries dirty money anymore. 2. Not very friendly. When I was new to the area 4 years ago, I was trying to ask about the local fish and the lady was snobby and offered no help. 3. The signs outside are misleading. They'll offer a certain kind of fish, such as Triggerfish, but when you go inside you have to buy the whole fish, at $70+, then you'd maybe end up with a few pounds of meat filets. You can get Trigger at Joe Paddi's for $9/ lb for just filets or $16/ lb at Shrimpers SRB. The cheap shrimp is always head on with a tail not much bigger than a crawfish tail. Best part is the snapper I've gotten there when I didn't want a $72 triggerfish was good, but I did end up having to debone it with tweezers before I cooked it. read more

We liked Blalock's a lot better. I came here on a Sunday afternoon and it smelled fishy. The staff said they get the seafood from boats all through the day. The thing is, do they if it is Sunday? And do what are they going to do with the whole counter of shrimp that are sitting out currently if they are about to close? A good seafood place does not smell fishy. I made the shrimp we bought that night and they didn't seem very fresh. I have tried other local seafood shops and they were fresher and less expensive. We were so disappointed. 1. No social distancing markings and it was crowded. 2. There was a lack of variety of fish. We at least expected grouper in addition to the red snapper. 3. The lump crabmeat was not! There were lumps in the top and the remaining was back-fin. Again, disappointed. Charge what you're going to charge but be honest. I was searching for Triggerfish and Sexton's had plenty! Devin carefully cleaned the fish I bought and made sure not to waste anything! They also let me watch him clean the fish. We walk in and the selection and price is good, however, the server was not. She used her fish plastic service gloves to wipe her running nose, rubbed the fish/snot off on to her shirt, and brushed her dried fish slimmed hair back. Then while presenting the fish, she used the same snotty and hair crumb infested gloves to affectionately pet the fish she was talking about at the time. While she was educated on the product, very happy to help, and in general, a nice lady, she did not properly handle the products. We decided we wanted to do a boil so we had to pick up some shrimp and a few fish. We found Sexton's and got everything we needed and then some. The prices are about average but they do run specials like shrimp $6.99/lb so getting in on those are pretty beneficial. They also have an assortment of spices and mixes to fix any need that you may have. They will clean and prepare any way you desire for free and offer coolers and ice for transport. The staff is super friendly and really informative on any questions you may have. The only con is they are cash only but do have ATMs on site. read more

I went to both Sextons and Destin Ice and seafood in the same day. They are just down the road from each other. I can tell you this, Sexton's had more selection and fresher looking shrimp. They also had better prices. The fish however looked a little better at Destin Ice. Both had very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Overall, I think I preferred Sexton's. read more

I have to admit before you read this review that I know little to nothing about fresh seafood. Lets be honest, I live in the Midwest yo. That being said, we came to Sexton's after my sister had had a positive experience here before. We ended up getting the frozen shrimp, boo on us, because it was the only thing they offered that was pre peeled and deveined. When we thawed and boiled the shrimp for shrimp cocktail it had a very fishy smell and tasted OK, nothing great. I guess that's what you get when you come to a fresh seafood place an get something frozen. If I were to go back, I would definitely go fresh next time. At this point I would say that its a 3 star experience at best, but, and the big BUT here is the experience. We came here on a rainy day with my nieces because we wanted to expose them to something different. Destin in general is pretty expensive and full of children's experiences that can leave parents cash strapped. This was cheap entertainment. Definitively a greta place where to find fresh, local, seafood. I drove by in a weekend stay on the beach and took home some good-looking clams and head-on shrimps, and scallops. All together made a great seafood pasta and I could tell the clams and shrimps where fresh for real. Scallops were just fine, not so special. 4 Stars just for the attitude of the employees, they don't seem caring much about customers. I can survive to that! We stopped in to make sure they were open the day before we headed back home. They only close 2 days a year-Thanksgiving and Christmas. They even gave us ideas on how to bake oysters. We will be back. We ordered a gallon oh oysters to pick up on our last day in town but when we got there they didn't have them. Because of the holiday and their supplier, they couldn't guarantee that the oysters would be in tomorrow so we purchased a few smaller containers. They gave us money off for having to purchase the higher priced smaller containers. They were very apologetic and we understood it wasn't their fault. Each time we visit Destin we purchase fresh shrimp to prepare during our stay. Before we leave we pick up several pounds of shrimp, scallops, lump crab meat and fresh fish. The staff is helpful and if you're traveling they will package your purchase on ice in a cooler. We buy the night before we leave and travel 10+ hours. Bought 4lbs of their $6.95/lb head on gulf shrimp. The front of the shrimp display area had huge shrimp but when we received ours, we might've gotten 10-15 of the display sized shrimp. The rest of the shrimps consisted of salad size shrimp to medium 41-60/lb size. Somewhat misconceived by what you see versus actually what you get. The employee grabbing our shrimp would grab a couple handfuls from where they were standing(small shrimp) and then grab further away from them(bigger shrimp). Some young workers didn't know what "sashimi grade" fish was either. They do not take any cards either, cash only! Overall, the shrimp tasted fresh but the size difference threw us off a bit from what we saw on the ice display. Otherwise, service itself was attentive and good. read more

So, I'm staying a stones throw from Skippers but after reading reviews and looking at pricing, I wanted to go to the best fishery in Destin. Sexton's was 9 miles from our house, which is really nothing and in the end, so worth it. There was only one gentleman working and he answered every question and was extremely gracious. I purchased 1/2lb of Tuna, 1lb of crawfish, over a lb of their largest shrimp, a lb of crab claws and hush puppies for just over $50. Everything was fresh, cooked up great and delicious. I'll be going back for the Cobia and Grouper before heading home. HIGHLY recommend this place, all day, every day. read more
