This is a venue I ALWAYS ENJOY going to. I often tell people that there is no such thing as a bad seat at the Cannon Center. the view is good no matter where you sit. The sound is clear and projects well throughout the auditorium. I am never overwhelmed with parking even with this venue being located downtown. As a matter of fact, I love the fact they are downtown because I can always enjoy the view. I have visited for graduations, concerts, galas and more. Each time, the staff is friendly and the vibe is guaranteed to be fun!

Great venue and spacious and tonight's performance was one we have been waiting on for a while. The Nut Remix featuring Charles "Lil Buck" Riley...where two worlds, two different cultures comes together. Super excited. And the orchestra and the talented stage performers are excellent. Thanks Arts Access. My grand children and I can enjoy a little taste of diversity.

The seats are a decent size.

My boyfriend and I purchased last minute cheap seat tickets to see the Memphis Symphony. I really think our seats were as good as most in the venue. We congratulated ourselves on getting the the $85 experience for $15. We're smart cookies, if we do say so ourselves. I'm 5'2'' and found the seats to be very comfy. My guy is a foot taller and felt a bit cramped, but agreed it was less cramped than most theaters. The location is great. There's lots of street parking so you probably don't need to bother with the garage. We managed to park at a meter that was free at the time of day we were there. That was awesome since parking in Memphis is ridiculously expensive. I'll definitely buy cheap tickets again when visiting Memphis.

Acoustics are great in this concert hall. The way the seats are positioned, there really isn't a bad seat in the entire place. The seats are comfortable and not so close to the row in front that your legs are cramped. Bathrooms are well positioned and usually very clean. Parking can be a bit of a challenge. I'm not big on underground garages. There is quite a bit of surface parking within walking distance. My biggest issue is the bar. Selections are very limited and ridiculously expensive. I do appreciate that they usually let you bring drinks in, though I wish they didn't let people bring in beer bottles. At one event, there was a lot of clanking of empty bottles that were left for people to trip over. I've ultimately enjoyed every event I've attended there.

Parking is horrible for handicapped individuals. Parking garage is not made for trucks and not enough handicapped parking.

Ask the Community - Cannon Center For The Performing Arts

Will a 2.5 year old be able to see from the front row of the upper balcony or is it pretty far to see? Will his view be clear enough for him to enjoy the experience of Paw Patrol Live?

Upper balcony is pretty far up and back. We were lower balcony and it was an ok view. He will be able to sit and see but the view might be obstructed by the rail. Nevertheless, he will enjoy the show...!!!

So, I will comment on the venue itself up here and place a block below for specific shows and will update that block whenever I see a new one! I'll put the run dates in the title line so you know whether or not to pay attention to it. Venue Review My wife and I absolutely love live theater and I think we've been to most of the theater venues in Memphis. We've seen many productions at the Playhouse on the Square and it is just a fabulous place to see a play, or even the ballet. It is not a huge venue so when I say, "There isn't a bad seat in the house." that is dead on. The seating is comfortable. The facilities are clean. The staff is always nice. And the productions are always top-notch! One thing about Playhouse and its surrounding theaters is the pricing for their shows is usually very reasonable compared to the competing theater across town. We always come in from the North, down Central and usually, we park in the parking garage near the square itself. This last time it was raining and we noticed there is actually a parking lot on the East side of the building! It is a nice parking lot and it is, of course, a much shorter walk than the walk from the garage! However, if you plan to eat before or after a show, the garage might be a better choice. Production Reviews Below Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - 1/19-2/18/2024 I am a HUGE fan of the 1971 film, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, starring Gene Wilder (who isn't, right?). I think we all would like to forget the 2005 remake of the story with J. Depp, so to say I'm dubious when it comes to the treatment of this story is probably an understatement. Knowing I am such a fan of this story, my wife surprised me with tickets to this show. I've never seen it done live and I was excited but trepidatious because some of the stuff I loved about the 1971 movie, the special effects, the sets, just couldn't be duplicated on a live stage. That said, because I knew that going, in I was a bit forgiving and might have been a little excited to see how they adapted it. I was not disappointed one bit! Of course, the main storyline was the same, but there were nuances of modernization. The names of the children were the same and the core of their bad behavior too. However, their backstories and the style of their ultimate demises were slightly different. I won't give critical details away as I don't want to spoil it for you, but just as an example, Mike Teevee's problem is still sitting in front of a screen too much, but his addiction is to the Internet and video games rather than classic television. Clever. The young star of the show, Drake Shehan, was incredible and an absolute delight to watch! The young man could sing, and dance, and his acting quality was that of someone 10 years his senior! The rest of the cast was great as well, just a super ensemble. This was one of the best shows we've seen at Playhouse and they did a fantastic job of adapting this to the stage. You have a little more than a week to catch this and you should before it is gone!

My wife got us tickets to see Gary Owen because she knows how much I love seeing him. The show was absolutely great and she picked some very good seats. I did feel like he cut the show just a little short. There's always that one drunk person that wants to yell out from the crowd. I think it was starting to irritating. What can you say about the orpheum? That hasn't already been said. It's a very nice historical place. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars. Is because like everyone else, they take advantage of people on concessions. I realized back in the day. This is the way places made their money. It's a little different these days. They make plenty of money on the shows. My other small complaint is the seating. Although its way better than Minglewood Hall, the seats are just too close together. I'm a big fella, and it's just very uncomfortable. Overall, they put on great shows and the place is very nice. I definitely wouldn't let the small things stop you from going.

The play absolutely lived up to one of the lines spoken by a character in the play that I saw: "Fiction fills in the void when facts are not enough!" The theater's location is great and there's a parking garage right across the street, so parking is a total breeze. However the sidewalk is really beat up and broken, so if wearing heels or slippers, just be careful when walking across. We had "Will Call" tickets for a production of "Lettice & Lovage" but our name wasn't on the list, but luckily I could show the confirmation email to the ticket-office (which was basically a gentleman sitting behind a desk). I thought the production values of the show I saw were brilliant and really also enjoyed the intimate setting of the theater - only 5 rows and so every seat is a good one! Speaking of seats, this show was general admission, so would recommend getting to the theater around 15mins early if you want middle row/ central spot. Price was also fairly reasonable ($20) and all of us had an enjoyable time, plus learnt how marmalade got its name (google if you want to know more- it's a neat story and hint - if you speak French, there's a clue in the second part of the word!) They have some wine and drinks you can buy at intermission, but I am not a fan of the "Barefoot" brand, so didn't get any - also its just your basic Cab Sav Red/ and Semillon white, so if you want Shiraz or a Riesling, they don't have that available. Oh also - coupons for places to eat in the playbill, so have a flick thru that. There are some upcoming plays coming up that sound good - so will definitely be returning back to this Theater. Showcasing many known Productions like The Wizard of Oz Annie & The Hobbit just to name a few. These plays have always been well produced & well casted thanks to their director & his crew who always have kept the show going smoothly. The props & backdrops were were well designed & crafted. The backdrops I found most impressively designed were the backdrops for Wizard of Oz when they were doing the scene with The Munchkins. The props just added a great realism to the scene they were design to be used in. The lighting is fair for a fair for a small town theather as I wouldn't expect the same quality you'd find at the Orpheum or GPAC. Their sound system is adequate & I can hear each performers lines & the music with clarity. As I said kept simple & not sacrifing in the way of ticket prices.
