Actually, lucky isn't a strong enough word-- blessed is more like it. Bartlett House is a sumptuously decorated restored 19th century home that felt like OUR home almost as soon as our hosts, Diane & Jack Gilmore, checked us in. We stayed in the French Room on the third floor. It is beautifully decorated with period furniture and one of the most comfortable beds it's ever been my pleasure to sleep in. The climate control in the rooms is excellent-- although the weather outside during our 5 day stay varied wildly from gale-force winds and rain to chilly drizzle and then spring-like conditions, the weather inside our room was always comfy-cozy. The bathroom has a wonderful deep soaking tub and a sunflower shower head (and GREAT water pressure! I was really surprised at that!!). Everything in our room-- even in the walk-in sized closet!--was absolutely spotless. All the linens, bed and bath, were of very high quality and for the first time in my life, I felt like there were enough towels (as well as lovely oversized terry bathrobes for each of us). But the breakfasts....well, the breakfasts are what will bring us back again next year (we are already planning another stay, a longer one next time). Jack and Diane outdo themselves every morning with a bottomless buffet of coffee, cereals, smoked salmon (my fave!), black forest ham, fresh tomatoes, breads/bagels/muffins, streusel cake, cheeses, hard- and soft-boiled eggs, fresh fruit, and Diane's incomparable breakfast quiches. The buffet is served in their beautifully decorated dining room (also on the porch if weather permits) on lovely mix-and-match china. It is, in a word, sublime. By the time we had to leave for home, we didn't want to go. Diane and Jack made us feel like family, and made Bartlett House feel like a second home to us. We simply can't wait to return.

The host(s) would not answer our calls & the email address was kicking back as undeliverable. We had to search the entire place to find the master keys. She clearly watched us on camera because she knew we located them but provided us no assistance at the time. Not even an apology. Very disappointing. Never again! There are many places far better than this one in the area. I recommend you look into those.

One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had…read more My partner became ill and was unable to join me for dinner. We called the restaurant to either move our reservation to another day or cancel it, and were told that only the manager could assist us. However, we were told the manager was unavailable because he was busy speaking with regulars at a table. I asked if we could simply be placed on hold until he was available so we could find a solution. We were told no. Instead, the employee said they would "leave a note" and that someone would call us back if they were able to help. Meanwhile, we were told that if the reservation was canceled, we would be charged a $135 cancellation fee -- despite the fact that we were actively trying to work with the restaurant to either reschedule or resolve the situation. The experience became even more unacceptable when the employee eventually hung up on us and then stopped answering our calls. The restaurant only answered after American Express contacted them on our behalf. To be clear, I have no issue with a restaurant having a cancellation policy. What I have an issue with is the way this situation was handled: being told the manager was "too busy" to speak with us, being refused the simple courtesy of being placed on hold, having our calls screened, and ultimately being hung up on. That is an embarrassing level of customer service for an establishment of this caliber. I genuinely hope someone in management -- above the person working the restaurant that evening -- takes this seriously and addresses this behavior. A cancellation policy is one thing; treating a customer with this level of disrespect is another.

The "suite" we booked for our family of four was a single room with an uncomfortable sofa for the children. The sofa had only a loose sheet draped over it, which shifted during the night and exposed the couch underneath. The bathroom featured an oversized jacuzzi tub that appeared in need of a deep clean and lacked a proper shower, offering only a handheld sprayer. We raised these concerns, along with others, directly with management after our stay. While they acknowledged some maintenance issues, they maintained that the property was accurately represented.

Fortunately, we brought our own pillows bc their pillowcases were also damp. We were able to open the door to the grounds and air out the room, which I was thankful for. With all the covid info going around, I've started carrying Lysol spray if I'm staying out of town. It was a blessing that I had this, as it helped mask the smell, which was a bit overwhelming. From the way it looked when I was able to quickly walk the grounds, if you're able to score a cabin that is the way to go.

My husband and I stayed here on Easter long weekend, a getaway that we planned to escape the city. We arrived on Thursday evening and departed Sunday morning. We stayed in the Halsey Suite, which was absolutely incredible. The bed was extremely comfortable and the fireplace was just wonderful. My husband and I also decided that our next home has to have a similar bathroom because it was just awesome. The freestanding tub, shower, and amenities were incredible. We also loved the afternoon cookies baked by Liz and just staying at this wonderful inn. On Friday, since it was the only day with good weather, Liz gave us directions to the beach and helped us figure out where to eat for dinner. We drove around and explored the area. On Saturday, Liz gave us passes to the Parrish Art Museum, and we spent the rest of the time just relaxing in the room until dinner which was also nice because the weather was pretty terrible. The room had so many incredible amenities, and it was nice to just be able to get away and relax. It would be remiss of me to leave a review without mentioning the breakfasts made by Liz. 3 courses of absolute deliciousness - as you can see from my photos. They were also wonderful at recommending restaurants to eat at, and tell us what they thought if it was a place we already booked. I also purchased the cookies and cocoa option as a surprise for my husband, and Liz's homemade marshmallows and the homemade cookies we took home allowed us to keep enjoying the stay we had here. If we ever decide to come out to The Hamptons again, White Fences would be the first place we look to book. We had an absolutely incredible stay.

The hotel is basic, but it works beyond well and truly has everything you need for a great Hamptons getaway: clean and comfortable rooms, excellent service, breakfast, a pool, beach passes, beach chairs and umbrellas. They really make it so easy. Cathy and Karen at the front desk are wonderful and truly as friendly and accommodating as can be. They always make us feel so welcome and cannot do enough for their guests. Wonderful service, a great location, beautiful harbor views and everything you need for an easy, relaxing stay in Sag Harbor. We look forward to coming back every summer!
