I cannot say enough to express my happiness with this dentist office. Dr. Nielsen is the ONLY dentist that has made me feel safe in a dentist's chair. I grew up terrified of the dentist and would rather have another baby than go for a check up.... Logan, at the front desk, is incredibly warm and welcoming. The dental hygienist, Kristen, is compassionate and empathetic. She was even able to calm my daughter who had never had a cavity before and was panic-stricken the night before her appointment. Dr. Nielsen uses outside specialists for major work, but is especially adept at matching patient to doctor regarding bedside manner and personality. For the past 7 years I haven't lived in or even near Ventura but continue to come here because dentists like this are worth the trip!! Dr Nielsen Sr did my routine cleaning and fillings as needed when I was a child, and since about 2 years before he retired I have been seeing Dr Canon Nielsen. He has a VERY gentle touch when it comes to cleaning and fillings - he genuinely cares about the comfort of his patients during the process. The overall environment is super friendly and calming. This is a 100% honest review, from a 30 year old, with bad dental history. (I blame my gene pool) I am providing my dental history, so you can get a clear picture of the reviewer My dental History: -2 implants -2 root canals -2 extractions -Multiple Cavities -Braces Canon completed my 3rd root canal recently. I will tell you now, just like I told him when the procedure was finished, "This is the best dental experience, I have ever had.". My experience.... Logan was helped me, even when I was at another dentist. I had a concern that the Dentist(not Dr. Nielsen, a practice in Camarillo) i was at, were giving me limited options. They told me the tooth was not able to be saved. I had a hunch that they were a little to pushy about getting implants. I thought they just wanted as much $$ out of me they could get. Anyways.... I took a picture of the XRay and the tooth, sent an email to Logan. She forwarded it to Dr. Nielsen, then responded. She advised that not only did the doctor feel that it was salvageable. But she also, referred me to a practice at the time that was in my Dental Insurance Network. She had no affiliation to them. I was shocked. Luckily, I was able to switch providers with the new year. So I was stoked to find out that Nielsen's practice was in my new network. So, I scheduled an appointment, and here are the facts. Before Doctor Nielsen began: All of my options, in regards to treatment to the tooth, w ere clearly explained. The price of my options were discussed clearly. I was not pressured towards one decision or the other. The procedure: He explained EVERYTHING, there were no surprises. He took his time..... I was in awe, a Doctor that actually took the time to explain something clearly, who knew they existed? Post-procedure: What I was to expect was explained to me, clearly. Multiple examples of what was a normal recovery, or what was abnormal were given. Not only did the Doctor tell me these expectations, but so did his staff!! Thanks Sherry!! The recovery: I was sore for the evening. 2 Advil every 4 hours was a 100% fix. The next day, woke up a little sore, but by the afternoon, I did not need anymore Advil THE BEST PART!!!! He is a young, but experienced, excellent doctor. Which in my eyes means.... he is not going anywhere. I am now one of his faithful patients. Like I said, i have complicated history...... BUT, this Doctor, staff and most important, the treatment that was provided, was phenomenal. Again, phenomenal!! This is a long review, I know. But, this guy deserves all the business he can get. One of the best dentists I've been to! Recommended highly by a good friend/ endodontist who sees Canon for his own dental work. Now that's saying something They run a family practice here and are super friendly and great at their jobs. I had quite a few teeth worked on and I could tell Canon takes pride in his work. I had a front tooth that was chipped in half, it wasn't that big of a deal to me but Canon was excited to fix it knowing that the front teeth are so crucial to your smile every day, he did a much better job than any dentist prior. We love Dr. Nielsen and his staff. He is honest which is invaluable when it comes to a dentist. We had another dentist tell my husband he needed 12 fillings replaced. Dr. Nielsen looked over everything and found he only needed 2 replaced. Please go to him if you've had a dentist try to push anything on you! He is kind and explains all of your options to you and is never pushy. He is also great with kids. Our 2 and 4 year old left the dentist very happy. I have gone to Dr. Canon Nielsen several times. I've had him clean my teeth, as well as do a root canal, and a crown, and other advanced dental work. I am very pleased with his work. He is a perfectionist. He matched and fit my crown with exactness, and it feels like my actual tooth. He is also careful and gentle in the cleaning process. He used a numbing agent because I have sensitive gums, and was very aware of the process. The office is very comfortable and they are very friendly. I have taken my children here as well, and they are always happy with their visits. I highly recommend Dr. Canon Nielsen. read more
