Be Sure You Understand The Warranty We bought a Generac from Canter Power Systems upon moving to Hickory, NC in 2021. There was no doubt that we needed one, and Canter was highly recommended. We were completely pleased with the salesperson and the installation crew, and it was a difficult installation! Though we have not had a power outage it has been reassuring to see the little green light showing on the unit and to hear the monthly remote checks taking place. We've not had any maintenance performed, which I need to schedule, but my expectation is that will be a good experience as well. Best part of this investment is that you feel like you have power covered, and you have no further worries. It is good to believe that the folks back at "The Mothership" have things well in hand. The bad news. The 10 Year Warranty and the 24/7 Monitoring which were the eye-grabbers for us in the Canter brochure have to be rated, in my view, as "not exactly". Call it instead a two year warranty which can be maintained for the following eight years by $499 annual payments. And the 24/7 Monitoring, which is so attractive to me? Well, that's gone too if you don't pay the $499. I have no memory of this being explained to me, and it's the kind of thing I would remember. Probably would not have made any difference - we needed a generator and the worry-free backup Generac/Canter offered was just what we wanted. But I'll tell you that it leaves a bad taste, and takes a "star" from my rating. So, I'm not an "extended warranty guy", but after steaming about this for a bit longer I'll probably pay up. They're calling it "Peace Of Mind" coverage, and that's the reason we bought the thing. read more

3/19/2019 I was referred to Canter by my Home Depot store in Atlanta for consideration and installation of a whole house back-up generator. A Canter rep called within 48 hours to set up an appointment for home electrical evaluation, and the local salesman, Mr. Rector, came promptly, proving to be very pleasant, knowledgeable, and complete in his home inspection. He discussed in detail the full price of the turn-key generator from purchase through installation, including details of warranties, and he described the installation schedule with the expected timing of each of the steps to completion. The new 22kw generator was installed, tested, and fully operational for the exact amount quoted by Mr. Rector, and well within the expected time to completion. At first, I was somewhat skeptical of dealing with an out-of-state company despite the referral from my local Home Depot. However my fears were quickly relieved when I observed the professional manner of their local representative, Mr. Rector, and when I dealt with the project coordinator, Michelle Maton, in Greensboro, North Carolina. All scheduled deadlines were met with ease, the local plumbing and electrical subcontractors were very efficient, neat, and personable, and Ms. Maton was in regular contact with me for each step of installation and testing. I am very pleased with Canter and their ability to install my back-up generator. Since installation there has not been a power outage, and I have not required a service visit, so cannot comment on on post-installation matters. I want to express my dissatisfaction with my experience from the beginning of our engagement. In response to your inquiry regarding potential improvements, I have repeatedly requested a full cash refund since October 2024 due to ongoing issues with the generator and its installation. Since September 2024, I have been in correspondence via email, seeking a resolution; however, my requests for a full refund have been consistently overlooked, and the company has chosen to contract services for repairs instead. In December 2024, I was informed that the issue had been resolved. However, on February 19, at approximately 3:05 a.m., we experienced a power outage. While the generator activated automatically, it shut down after several hours, leaving my home uncomfortably cold. Upon contacting customer service, a representative indicated that a blown fuse might be the cause of the malfunction and that a technician would require 24 to 72 hours to respond. Although a technician arrived within the 24-hour window, I was concerned that he entered my property without prior consent and performed actions on the generator without clear communication. At this point, I am uncertain whether the issues with the generator have been adequately addressed. I caution potential customers against investing in this generator due to poor customer service experiences with the assigned representative and the company. I ordered a Generac whole home 23Kw generator from Home Depot. Canter Power was designated by Home Depot to procure the generator, pad and do the installation. I received the generator and concrete pad separately both within 30 days from the date ordered. The electrical and gas hookup were subcontracted to companies that were professional and had installed Generac generators many times before . The process went very smoothly including all necessary inspections by the Gas and power companies. Canter Power was on the phone with me at every stage of this process keeping me informed at all times. I could not ask for a more professional process from start to finish. They are a definite 5 star company and head and shoulders above all other companies. I also received a military discount through Home Depot which saved me a considerable amount of money. The cost was less than the estimate from Cummins and kohler even before the military discount plus I received a 10 year warranty from Canter Power. read more

Buyer Beware! Canter Power promotes a referral program offering $50 for a Backup Generator system referral. I referred my neighbor after making my purchase to Canter Power. My neighbor made a purchase of a 24K system, which I'm going to guess was about a $17k sale. You know Canter Power had their money before installation was completed. It was in my case and my neighbor had his Generator up and running before mine was. It's been close to 120 days since my neighbor's unit was finalized. I have reached out several times inquiring about the Referral bonus. The last phone conversation I had with Canter Power, I was asked if I referred or if someone referred me, which I clarified, and they wanted to know if my unit was operational. Really???? You can't tell from your computer records. It's been three (3) weeks from my last phone conversation stating I would get paid and still no check. read more

First class service from start to finish. After much discussion and research, we decided to go with Canter Power Systems for our solar panel purchase and installation. We were very impressed with the process from start to finish. They helped us navigate our tricky HOA approval process and Blake kept us informed every step of the process, letting us know what to expect and when. He educated us on the technology and its capabilities and geeked out about the solar energy production phone app almost as much as my husband! We are now able to monitor our daily energy production and usage with just a few clicks -our Duke energy bills are now only $14/mo (service fee)! Once we got HOA approval, we had 26 solar panels, all electrical work, and inspections completed in about a week! We used Canter Power Systems to purchase and install our Generator for a new home build. Our experience was great from start to finish. After reading a lot of the 1 star reviews about the cost to install the generator I understand people think is unreasonably priced, but this has always been the case with installation of Generac Generators. We had a Generac Generator in our last home (20 years ago) and the electrician's price to set it up was almost the same price as the generator. I suppose everyone's experience is different for the installation depending on the contractor that you get. Ours was great. We have purchased two home generators from Canter for two different homes. In each case ... both experiences were great. Everything went as scheduled and we were kept up to date during installation. In all the years we have been with Canter we have enjoyed great customer service with ... a smile ... you can hear through the phone. Canter installed our generator several years ago. My husband is very handy, and he does the maintenance on the generator. We had a problem with the generator not starting, and he couldn't fix it. We called Canter, and they set up a repair call for us. The lady in the office was very friendly and set up a time when my husband could be home. The repair technician Ray was awesome. My husband said he called when he was on the way and was on time. Ray didn't mind my husband looking over his shoulder. He diagnosed the problem and gave us a price. He had the part in his truck to fix it. When we replaced the part, he tested the generator to make sure it worked. read more

UPDATE. They reached out to me immediately after posting a review and the issue was resolved next day. Canter Installed my generator few years ago. They offered warranty with yearly maintenance. in the beginning of August I received a letter that it is time to schedule recertification/maintenance appointment. I have been calling them last two months to get someone for recertification. There is no response at all. I even called sales and they promised they will send email to someone in maintenance department. There is still no response. I would say this is the worst customer service, But I wasn't able to get actual service from this company. read more

We purchased our 22KW generator in early March, it was delivered on the 25th of March and 4 Weeks later was up and running. The biggest holdup was getting a plumber to run a gas line after the big storm here in Texas. I did assist in telling the Elec. Contr. in Ft Worth how to contact local officials for permits etc. Brian from Canter was very helpful throughout the whole process and Gabby was always there when I had questions that needed addressing. jayrell was outstanding. I had a problem with the reliability of the transfer to generator power. This time when he tested it the generator did not switch so he got to see there was a problem. Every other time it would not duplicate the problem. So several times I had to do a manual switch. Not good. He spent almost three hours here to swap out the transfer switch.
