Good lord, if you thought that the service was slow at the original Rey Azteca you will be shocked by the slow delivery of food at this place! It took an hour, well 55 minutes for the cooks to make 2 plates of eggs and beans. Granted, it was a busy Sunday at 11:45 AM, but still, why does an egg take so long to prepare. (BTW it's now 1:37 PM and we JUST finished our meal) As for the food, it was as good as expected for a Rey Azteca establishment. However, the prices were not commensurate with what you get. For example I paid $10.99 for a scrambled egg and beans! For that price you would expect that they would at least serve it with Mexican rice. Not only that, but you still have to get up to get your own chips and salsa! I think next time we want a sit down Mexican breakfast we'll head up the street less than a mile and enjoy the same meal for about $6 at the Adelbertos. There you get the same quality food in about 5 to 10 minutes regardless of how long the line is. I'll try this place one more time because I'm a very big supporter of local business. But if things remain the same you can be sure this review will stand. And for goodness sake, add a scoop of 20 cent rice to the breakfast plates! read more

After moving into the Sacramento area a few months ago I was anxious to leave behind the Mexican restaurants I enjoyed back in LA, however, my anxiety was cured as soon as I gave Cantina Azteca a try. No matter what I order Cantina Azteca is on point with their food, anything from their mariscos to quesabirria tacos the flavors rival those I missed back home. Additionally the staff and restaurant itself provide the most authentic and nice experience one could ask for when enjoying their food. Lastly I just have to give Israel a shout out for consistently going that extra mile when it comes to service, and helpfulness. If you have any questions upon coming in, he is your guy. I was driving around looking for some Mexican food and accidentally stopped by this place. From the moment I walked in the hostess was very pleasant and polite. But OMG, the food was phenomenal, and Maira the waitress. Words can describe the level of customer service that she provided. The one thing that really impressed me was that the owner Ismael, he was very accommodating. He went from table to table greeting everyone and asking if everything was okay with the food and service. Cantina Azteca continues to provide amazing food and excellent customer service. To start, they bring you chips and salsa and waters without having to ask for them. Our server, Gloria, was quick and attentive to us. The food came at a reasonable time, we just forgot to take photos because we started digging in right away. I also noticed the other staff would occasionally take our finished plates so that our table isn't cluttered with dirty dishes. And Gloria continued to check on our table every few minutes. Our favorite restaurant for Mexican food. The menu is extensive and has something for everyone. My husband says the carnitas is the best around. The salsa bar is exceptional with different salsas that are always very fresh, as well as crisp, fresh-made chips. Besides the food, the next best thing is the staff. Rosy was our server. We originally came for a drink and dessert for my daughter. We ended up having a great experience and she even asked her manager to clear a special drink I requested. This was our first time here and I would totally come back and that's saying a lot for us as we always stay true to our safe places this was a new experience and we will definitely keep coming back! I do not live in this area. I ate here the other night and had the fish tacos with lime and basil rice and they were so amazing I came back tonight again. My margarita was amazing as well! It's a very nice family restaurant. My waitress tonight was Rosie, she was very attentive as well. It can be hard to find good service like this, especially when a place is as busy as this place is. Our waitress Maria creates such a wonderful atmosphere. I feel like I'm at home. She really does make us feel like we're part of the family. The food is consistently delicious. My favorite is pozole soup. My second favorite is the chicken fajitas dinner plate that my wife and I share. Plus they have some of the best salsas at the salsa bar.
