Food is not good. I have passed by this restaurant for four years in the way home and always said that I wanted to try it. I read the Yelp review and say an item on the menu that I was excited about so we came today for my Mother's Day lunch. They weren't serving it anymore. They didn't have a child's menu. The chile relleno batter was ...gummy. The meat was dry. Beans were good but overall, we should have gone to Carmelita's or Perla's or Nixtaco. I have never been disappointed by a quesadilla. The shredded chicken wasn't flavorful and had an odd aftertaste. It wasn't even a traditional quesadilla. It was more like two crispy tacos pressed together. I really missed the gooey, stretchy, cheese that makes a yummy quesadilla. This was a quesadilla disaster. Just ate dinner here 8-8-2026 for the first time. Was excellent! If you were a fan of Luis's and Luis Jr.'s you need to come here. It is owned by their family members. You will get the same great food from the same great recipes. Authentic GREAT old time Mexican food handed down for generations. Nothing fancy, just fantastic food at good prices. We had Xochimilco cater our son's and his future brides engagement party and it was perfectly incredible. The food was absolutely amazing, It was cooked on site which I really liked, (all the smells) and the service was incredible. We had 90 people for a sitdown dinner and Frank and Norma at Xochimilco made the experience even better than we had hoped for. We came out to Sacramento Saturday night for some early Halloween shenanigans and decided to give Xochimilco a try. The restaurant was pretty busy and you can tell it's definitely a local favorite. We were seated quickly and drink orders were placed. Our party had time to look over the menus and make decisions by the time our drinks came from the bar. Our server let us know they closed at 8 as our food order was the last to hit the kitchen around 7:30ish. Overall everyone was happy with their meals only ding was the rice was undercooked but otherwise everything was great. read more

We celebrated my mother's 80th birthday at Xochimilco and it was absolutely unforgettable. Norma (Owner) was fantastic, attentive, and made us feel special from the moment we walked in. The taco bar was delicious, especially the salsa bar! The service was top-notch, they were incredibly accommodating with our large group, and they made my Mom feel celebrated without being overly chaotic. My hubby and I are taking a weeknight class at American River College, so we've been sampling the nearby restaurants. We've found some good ones, but unfortunately, this isn't one of them. We really wanted to like it; it's obviously been a local favorite for a while, but the inside is run-down and the food was just meh. After dinner, my tummy was upset. Worse yet, when my hubby went to eat the leftovers for lunch, the chicken was spoiled! Yikes! It's too bad because we love Mexican food and the service was really fantastic. A few months ago we came with friends and had a terrible meal. I figured it was a one off moment because this has always been a great place with great food. We went again earlier this week and it's the end of the weekend and my husband and I are still feeling kind of gross. Thankfully my daughter saw the food, took one bite and refused to continue so she's escaped it. I don't know what happened. The people in the front are still the same, but something went horribly wrong in that kitchen. Still worthy for margaritas and chips and salsa (because their flour chips are off the hook) but nothing beyond that for us anymore. Bummed. read more

We came in here hoping to find a hidden gem. I wish I could rate this place 3.5 overall since the tortillas were homemade. The entrance we came through was in back off the parking lot. There is a ramp for accessibility which is nice. Inside it is like hundreds of other Mexican places. There is a full bar, and lots of tables and booths. We wre told to sit anywhere and were given chips and salsa right away. I asked about the chilies they use for chili rellenos and was told it was a California pepper. I was really hoping for a traditional Pablano pepper. There is a little more heat and much more flavor on a Pablano. My friend ordered the enchilada lunch special with beef. I decided to try the chili relleno anyway. The sauce and breading on the Rellenos were great. Unfortunately the pepper wasn't fully de-seeded and as I suspected, the chili was too mild for me. The beans were very good. My friend said his enchilada was ok but I could tell neither of us was very enthusiastic about our food. There are so many great Mexican restaurants in the Sacramento area, I just don't see coming back. read more

My companion ordered the FULL order chimichanga ($20) which I thought was a tad expensive because I have enjoyed good chimichangas at other restaurants for a couple dollars less, but at the other restaurants you just get one large chimichanga. At Xochimilco, it arrives with 2 medium sized chimichangas WITH sour cream, guacamole rice and beans. My companion let me taste it and the chimichangas were every bit as good, if not a little better than the other places I have been. So definitely worth trying. I ordered the Xochimilco Special (1 taco, 1 enchilada, 1 chili relleno, steak ranchero ~$24) , it too was a delicious meal and filled me up with leftovers to take home. Very flavorful and well worth the money. The steak ranchero was the best and very tender too! Service was very friendly and attentive. Our waiter was hard of hearing (he had to cup his hand over his ear to hear us, but it wasn't an issue, you just need to realize it, my companion did not originally). The atmosphere was pleasant, the TVs had the 49er/Raider game on and there were not too many customers when we were there, so not really too noisy. The one "negative" comment I will make regarding the restaurant is that it could use some updating of the furniture and decorations, but that's a minor thing. The food (from what I sampled) is what shines here. My companion has been to this restaurant for years and says the quality of the food has always been spot on. ¡Orale! It's a mixed bag for me. Old school vibe, perhaps a little too old. Waitresses were perfect. Salsa was freshly made but far too mild for my taste. Chips were fresh, but tasted as if fried in old oil. Single item meals were filling and under $20 for two. The chili verde and n the burrito was well seasoned but over braised back to dry. Flour tortillas were provided which allowed me to make a rice bean and cheese burrito more impressive than the starring act burrito. Waters were kept full. It ended up as an okay place for a meet up to complete fantasy football scoring for the new season. I'm repeating no time soon. read more

SO GOOD !!!! Came in right before closing & I wasn't expecting much because they were clearly finishing up for the night. We were greeted & given menus right away. My husband and I both got super burritos to-go. Mine with no pico. These were hands down the best burritos we've had in a while! Very flavorful and juicy. Perfect portions of each ingredient so one doesn't overpower the other. We also were given A LOT of complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and the salsa was really good as well ! I've been to this place many times before but not lately. It is not on my side of town but when I'm in the area I make sure to stop. Every time I leave with a full belly and a smile on my face. The food is reminiscent of my childhood Mexican restaurant called Luis's Mexican food on Alhambra Blvd. but this place is much more. Excellent service, kept my drinks topped off and chip basket full. Sacramento is blessed to have such fresh made, no preservitive, authentic family recipes they serve so lovingly and graciously!!! This was our third time with takeout and unfortunately, just as disappointing. We were really hoping things would be different as it had been six months or more since we had ordered. No meat on the Chicken or Asada nachos just tons and tons of beans. For the price they charge there should've been tons of meat not just beans. The chips were over fried and had no salt. Their salsa is very boring and had huge chunks of cilantro. Bland flavored rice & beans with very little cheese, and barely any cheese in the Rellano. The chicken in my taco was flavorless and dry. The quesadillas and taquitos in the appetizer sampler were horrible. The quesadillas reminded me of what I used to make as a kid with Velveeta cheese and a microwave. The taquitos were overcooked and had very dry chicken inside. I'd rather do drive-thru at Alberto's or California burrito than eat at this place ever again. read more
