Breakfast Review: 09/09/25 Hidden gem of a restaurant tucked away in a tiny strip mall on busy Watt Ave. I was in town at nearby Kaiser Medical Center for a medical screening appt. And had fasted about a half day for the early morning appt. Needless to say, after the appt. I was hongrey, not hungry HONGREY, as in hangry. I searched Yelp for my fave breakfast dish of Huevos Rancheros and took a gamble that Don Quixote's--which was open at the time--had it. They didn't, but the line cook sold me on a couple other equal choices. Ended up with a veggie machaca plate that was really good and came with multiple sides. They have a self serve soda fountain and a well-above average open chips & salsa bar. Very good. The restaurant is full service serving alcohol too with an inviting patio area. The restaurant is very nicely decorated looking like an authentic restaurant you'd find in many Mexican towns and cities. Generous portions & very reasonable prices. I couldn't even finish my meal due to being full, a rarity for me. Several daily specials posted on sandwich board signs inside & out the restaurant. Subtracting one star for an overhead main menu board that is pretty hard to see & read (small print, prices?); and signage could be better directing 1st timers where to place their orders (to the left of the counter above the plexiglass partition above the steam trays) . These were minor issues however. Overall, this was a great experience for my 1st time at Don Quixote's. I would come back here anytime.

I was in the area and came specifically for the breakfast burrito ! It was a good size and delicious. The service here is always fast and friendly, and they keep the dining area clean . Check them out if you haven't already! I highly recommend it!

The food is amazing here. I got a burrito bowl with corn tortillas on the side. Service was great and the ambience is on point. The price is also reasonable which is my favorite part. They have a chips/salsa bar which is a must have for me as I love a lot of salsa on my plate.

    Breakfast burrito Chorizo

This spot is pretty close to my work,so I tend to go here often and they rarely disappoint. This particular day I arrived at work and forgot my breakfast,so I knew where I was headed.I ended up ordering a breakfast burrito with chorizo,eggs,potatoes,2 types of cheese, medium salsa and jalapeños. The burritos here always smack and this time was no different-it was great on the 1st bite and ever greater on the last bite. The chorizo was so flavorful and they definitely do not skimp on fillings, that breakfast burrito was for sure quite hearty. Cost of this burrito was a modest $7.80-a price I find true value in,more than happy to buy again. This restaurant also offers a self service salsa bar and a self service chip station-the avocado salsa is to die for-one of my favs in all of Sacramento. Overall I love coming here for breakfast burritos and look forward to the next time I forget to bring my breakfast to work,so I can hit this place up again. BTW-this place has a pretty interesting lunch and dinner menu, which I haven't had the pleasure of trying out quite yet. Overall

Albondigas was pretty yummy especially the meatballs such a good flavor!!

I always enjoy eating here. They have a small menu but enjoy the flavors. Great service and salsa bar is great.

Was super quote when I went. Had the whole place to myself and a friend. Very spacious and clean. Lots of options so bothvmy friend and I got their combo platter, a taco, enchilada, and a tamale. All was very good. I also got a bowl of pizole which was also good. Since me and my friend were the only ones there food came out pretty fast. Also had a pretty big chip and salsa table.

I found Rosa Madera when searching for "queso" in Yelp...(I really was wanting some queso)…read more Anyways, funnily enough, I read through the menu when I got here and ended up getting nachos in place of the queso...that's fine though, it gave me an excuse to come back another day. It's a nice looking place inside, especially considering its general location. They were busy even at an off hour mid-week, but I can see why because the food is great and so is the atmosphere. My first visit, I tried the following: Enchilada Verde (Lunch Menu), Mini Birria Tacos (Lunch Menu), and Nachos de la Casa (with asada). They also brought out complimentary chicharrones de harina, which was especially nice because I was super hungry! My second visit I had the following: Queso Con Rajás Dip, Los Favoritos, and the Burrito de Carnitas (Lunch Menu). I ended up liking the nachos way more than the queso. I wasn't expecting the queso to just be the consistency of slightly melted cheese. I also wish they were a bit more generous with the chips since I ran out of chips way sooner than the dips. No complaints on my main dish portions though! Really loved most things I've tried. The presentation of my dishes I've ordered here, the Enchilada Verde and the Burrito de Carnitas, was great too. The chicken was just slightly too dry for the Enchilada, but the flavor made up for it. Only complaint is while the service was nice, it was SO slow both times I've been here. It took forever to get the check and when they did bring out the card reader you can't see the receipt, only a total. Then their lowest automatic tipping button is set at over 22% (with two higher percent options), which is honestly crazy to me since most places start at around 18%. I way overtipped on accident the first time I came. I think it's highly likely they get overtipped for this reason, which is nice for them but kind of not fair to the customer. I'll continue to return!

The consomme was made from the broth used to slow cook the beef used in the quesabirrias. The quesabirrias were delicious when dipped in the consomme. The nachos contained tomato, onion, cilantro, guacamole, jalapenos, radishes, carne asada, and cheese under fresh tortilla chips. All the ingredients were of high quality and tasted delicious together. Complimentary chicharrones de harina were served with hot sauce. This is the first time I've been to a restaurant that served complimentary chicharrones de harina. Chicharrones de harina are a Mexican snack that are made from fried wheat flour. Service was good as the workers were friendly and polite. They were short staffed so service was slower than if they were properly staffed. It was surprisingly busy around 2pm on a weekday.

I was missing the zucchini and guacamole; I think that would have added to the overall flavor. The corn tortillas were stale, so that was yuck. I have read that they are homemade (?) If they were homemade, ours were made the day before. They were definitely not fresh. People in our group ordered all kinds of entrees, including tacos, burritos, and enchiladas, and seemed to enjoy everything. Some enjoyed the fried ice cream and flan for dessert, too. I visited this past Saturday and it was quite busy inside like it always is. The restaurant is large enough to fit a lot of people, so finding a seat isn't an issue. To order, you line up in front of the register and wait until they call you. Once it was my turn, I ordered a Super Burrito with Al Pastor, which is my favorite protein choice there. Usually I order 2 tacos with my burrito but I was saving room for Korean bbq that day! The Super Burrito comes with your choice of meat, rice, beans, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, and cheese. I also ordered a medium pineapple agua fresca, which paired perfectly with my burrito. After ordering, you're handed a number to take to your table so the servers know where to bring your food. As I'm waiting for my food, I helped myself to the self-serve chip bar. The chip bar is my favorite thing about the restaurant besides the food and quick service. I always get loads of both the white and red pickled onions, and some salsa to go with my chips. They offer many sides to choose from so that anyone can customize their meal to their liking. The pickled onions have the perfect level spice and acidity to them which helps with cutting down the greasiness you may get from a burrito. I also like to snack on them for fun too! The food comes out extremely quickly. When I finished placing my order and brought my number to my table, I went to the self-serve bar right after to get some chips. Not even 2-3 minutes later, I came back to my table with my burrito already there! The burrito was absolutely delicious and piping hot. It's the perfect size for me and eating it with the pineapple agua fresca and some chips makes it a perfect meal! Coming to La Favorita Taqueria is always a treat and I appreciate the quick customer service, self-serve bar, and delicious food! I highly recommend the Al pastor as your protein choice and honestly you can't go wrong with anything on their menu!

They didn't just walk by like frazzled, hurried workers like most restaurants pushing through the crowds. They actually gave me a nice smile and said welcome, and then walked by. And then I got to the reception area found that there was already a pretty big crowd at around the 5:30 PM or so I guess a lot of early birds come to eat there on Sunday. The receptionist asked for how many and said you'd be like a 20 minute wait and there was chairs where people were waiting but it was only like a 15 minute wait. The server was fast with the chips and salsa and ice water and then soon the waiter came and took my order. He was really quick and witty, fun to talk to. What I really enjoyed was as the noise of the table Near quieted down and they left. I saw a young man cleaning up the table and getting it ready for the next group of people. He was dressed really nice and had a tie on. Having been in restaurants most of my life I said to myself, I bet you he works with the owners or something. And I said to him, are your related to people that own the place ? he said my parents own this place. He was very friendly and polite. He told me a tiny bit about the restaurant and how everything had been since 1970, much older than he was, he was only a sophomore in high school I think. I never really got his name, but I was kind of proud of him because he was working hard at his family's restaurant. I ordered probably something bigger than I could eat because I had to take leftovers home, but it was really a tasty meal, and they're coming out with more chips and salsa without being asked, probably didn't help as well as a second lemonade. It's really impressive when you have a well oiled machine and it appeared to me that the people that worked there seem to be happy so that's always a good sign of good management. Several years back, I worked in the restaurant industry doing maintenance and repairs so I went to a lot of different restaurants and saw a lot of things so I know what to look for. I'm definitely gonna come back when my brother and his wife come up from the Bay Area my friend Ivan he'll wanna go there for lunch or dinner I know. From what I could see, the restaurant looked really inviting and I appreciated that they have a dog friendly patio. I always have my pup with me and that is the main reason we chose this location. I liked the style and design of the interior of the restaurant and overall it had a very nice vibrant feel. The staff was also warm and friendly. Unfortunately, the food was a mixed bag. The Torta Gorda was the biggest disappointment. The meat was very bland and seemed barely seasoned while the bread had become soggy by the time we got it home. There just wasn't much to it. The mole also missed the mark for me. The sauce lacked the rich complex flavors I expect from a good mole and the chicken was noticeably dry. The rice, beans and esquites were ok. The nachos on the other hand were quite good. They were flavorful and satisfying and although I thought they were a little heavy-handed with the radishes, I mostly enjoyed the flavors. For for three people the bill came to around $100 after tip which felt a bit steep, especially considering the overall quality of the meal. While this visit didn't live up to my expectations, I'm willing to give Polanco Cantina another shot and probably dine in next time. I have a much better idea now of which dishes to steer clear of and the restaurant itself seemed promising so I'm hoping the experience is improved when the food is enjoyed fresh from the kitchen.
