If I consider all the criteria, including proximity,value,quality, and the sheer volume of visits, I would probably say Don Quixote on Watt Avenue has my favorite breakfast burrito in Sacramento. Let me tell you why. First of all the cost, they sell their breakfast burritos for only $8.50 each-these days that's super cheap. Secondly the quality-I've tried all five varieties of breakfast burritos here are my thoughts. -Chorizo 10/10 item -Bacon 9/10 item -Ranchero 8.5/10 item -Machaca 7/10 item -Veggie 6.5/10 item Chorizo-Bacon & Ranchero are generally the top three, I rotate through and all of them are just elite-I recommend them highly-taste-seasoning-volume-all incredible ways to start your day. Machaca is just ok-just not my favorite texture-wise Veggie just isn't my thing-I'm sure it's just fine for vegetarians but I'm not that,so yeah not for me. Thirdly their sauces are so incredible,they have two of the top sauces,their avocado blend and their chunky red,that are two of the best sauces I've run across in Sacramento-truly elite. Lastly I think I really enjoy interacting with their staff-always friendly,always personal,they always greet me with a smile on their face and in their voice-I really do appreciate them. Inside they have many tables if one chooses to dine inside while also having tables outside if one prefers outside dining. This is a casual restaurant,so no need to get dressed up or anything,casual dining at its finest. Parking is easily available as well as they share a decent sized lot with multiple other businesses. In closing, If you're ever in the Watt/Marconi area and want to try a quality breakfast burrito-I'd fully recommend stopping by and giving them a try-they have never failed me. read more

What a hidden gem! If you're in the mood for fresh, flavorful Mexican food, Don Quixote's is the spot. The Caesar salad was fresh and you really get the bang for the buck with the serving! Breakfast Review: 09/09/25 Hidden gem of a restaurant tucked away in a tiny strip mall on busy Watt Ave. I was in town at nearby Kaiser Medical Center for a medical screening appt. And had fasted about a half day for the early morning appt. Needless to say, after the appt. I was hongrey, not hungry HONGREY, as in hangry. I searched Yelp for my fave breakfast dish of Huevos Rancheros and took a gamble that Don Quixote's--which was open at the time--had it. They didn't, but the line cook sold me on a couple other equal choices. Ended up with a veggie machaca plate that was really good and came with multiple sides. They have a self serve soda fountain and a well-above average open chips & salsa bar. Very good. The restaurant is full service serving alcohol too with an inviting patio area. The restaurant is very nicely decorated looking like an authentic restaurant you'd find in many Mexican towns and cities. Generous portions & very reasonable prices. I couldn't even finish my meal due to being full, a rarity for me. Several daily specials posted on sandwich board signs inside & out the restaurant. Subtracting one star for an overhead main menu board that is pretty hard to see & read (small print, prices?); and signage could be better directing 1st timers where to place their orders (to the left of the counter above the plexiglass partition above the steam trays) . These were minor issues however. Overall, this was a great experience for my 1st time at Don Quixote's. I would come back here anytime. read more

I love this place and frequent it at least once every couple of weeks as it's only a block from work. I order their breakfast tacos (you get 3 and I leave off the rice and beans and get flour tortillas) for $8.50. They STUFF them with fluffy (real) scrambled eggs, yummy sauteed potato, and I love their chipotle sauce (it's a ton of food). Chips and salsa are alwayas free. Recently, I had them cater a birthday at work and got two tray combos of chicken, carnitas, and carne asada tacos with the fixin's on the side and everyone loved them. The food is fresh and flavorful, the place is clean, and the service is super friendly. :) They also open at 7:30, so I can walk down early for breakfast. Yum! read more

After seeing all the great reviews and hoping to find something better than damn Chipotle. Disappointing - All Rice and Lettuce! I ordered the asada rice bean bowl, and while the portion size was great, it was mostly just rice and lettuce. There was hardly any asada, and the beans were barely noticeable. Was super quote when I went. Had the whole place to myself and a friend. Very spacious and clean. Lots of options so bothvmy friend and I got their combo platter, a taco, enchilada, and a tamale. My partner and I had our first visit here yesterday. We found the food to be tasty, the service to be very good, the prices very reasonable compared to similar restaurants, the environment clean and uncrowded, and as others have already mentioned, the salsa bar to be rockin!' He ordered the daily special that was two tacos with rice, beans and a (refillable) drink for $12 (sorry no pics of his food). He chose the carnitas tacos which were street taco size but piled high with meat. We were impressed with the choices of toppings for the taco and that there was no extra charge for guac as one of those choices (he really liked their guac). I ordered the two combo lunch for $12. My choices were a chicken taco and a chicken tamale. What I really appreciated was that they offer alternatives to the standard rice and beans as the sides (I usually pass on rice at other places)! They give you the choice of rice and beans OR salad OR soup. The soup choices yesterday were Pozole or Chicken Tortilla Soup. I chose Pozole as a change of pace. I was expecting a small cup so was pleasantly surprised that it was in a decent sized bowl and that they offered to add in cabbage, onion and cilantro (I chose all three). There was more meat in in the soup thanI expected. The only things I would change about the soup is that it was only a little warmer than room temp and had a bit more oil than I persinally prefer probably due to the pork but I still give it a thumbs up. I ended taking some home because the meal turned out larger than expected, including that chicken tamale. It had almost as much shredded chicken, if not more, than masa. Topped with a LOT of sauce (I didn't find it overly flavorful) and some cheese. Next time I'll ask for light on the sauce and no cheese (again just my personal pref). The chicken taco was very good with some tasty char on some of the pieces of meat. As for the salad bar, it was really awesome. I especially liked their fresh pico. The salsa verde was a little thinner than some but still good. There were several other choices as well as sliced radish and fresh limes. The only other thing I had wished was different was that I found the chips to be on the oily side. Perhaos their oil wasn't hot enough when they fried them or maybe they didn't spread them out enough when draining. The restaurant was set up roomy so you didn't feel crowded and it was clean. The womens bathroom was also clean but you do need to ask for a key to it which is understandable. The restaurant itself is a bit hidden from the main street. It is behind the Starbucks that is next to the bowling alley and Wendy's on Watt near the Country Club mall area. It is next door to a Korean corn dog establishment. I hope they survive this tough market. We will be back! read more

Staff busts their butts every day, they communicate well about freshness, ingredients, and wait times for food (usually under 5 minutes), and they genuinely appear to enjoy what they do. Though I am trying to go vegan, I can still recommend their chicken; I've watched the cook and he knows what he's doing. I've had at least 15 different items on the menu and don't ever recall a bad experience. Prices aren't the same as their YELP menu (some slightly higher and some considerably less). Amazing, friendly, customer centric staff but sadly the food just didn't deliver. I'm heartbroken to share that, so much so that I almost didn't share my experience...because the staff is so darling. I ordered the birria tacos with consommé and neither had any flavor at all, I mean zero. I ordered a burrito bowl to go for my husband. When he ate it the next day (I didn't share my food experience) and I asked how it was, he said completely bland. The salsa bar on the other hand...BOMB! OMG! I'd go just to buy the salsa! I did go back a second time on a different day (because I wanted more salsa lol) and ordered the nachos. The chips were taco shells, cut in half and fried. Big, shareable portion, meat wasn't completely bland but light on flavor profile. My boyfriend and I have driven by this restaurant plenty of times and we finally made a stop in last Friday. The restaurant itself is fairly spacious and it's set up like a fast & casual dine-in. You start by ordering at the counter and they hand your dish over right away. They have an assembly line, similar to chipotle, for ordering. My boyfriend had their super nachos and he really enjoyed being able to take a look at the toppings and adding as much as he'd like. Let me tell you, these nachos really are SUPER. They could easily feed 2-3 people. I also ordered their 2 puffy beef tacos with a side of rice and beans at an additional cost. The concept of puffy tacos was new for me, but I really enjoyed the change in taco shell. The flour tortilla was crunchy but soft as well. The size was also huge and packed with lots of meat, cheese and guac. I was full after 1/2 a taco and had plenty to take home. They have a ton of salsas available and there was a huge variety. I love that they offer complimentary chips & salsa. My only complaint would be the cleanliness of the restaurant. There were a few tables that were dirty of sauces & crumbs and some tables were left with dirty dishes for 20 minutes. It is a bit pricey too, but their portions are so big I can understand why. just curious? Seen this place as i drive by for several years now and always wondered about their food. Well, today was the day I decided to give this place a try. As we entered, it wasn't a typical sit down restaurant. the pandemic must have transformed this place into a cafeteria style restaurant. No worries, it's all about the food right? We ordered the following: 1) carne asada street taco and enchilada. Our friend enjoyed her entree and was even scraping the enchilada sauce off her plate. She doesn't like things too spicy so it was perfect for her. both were shredded beef not ground beef. 2) Chicken burrito with chicken flavored rice, beans, and lettuce only. It also comes with cheese and salsa but our friend opted out of these items. She said the chicken had a nice flavor. 3) carne asada street taco, beef enchilada and two cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. Our friend devoured the street taco but he said it was too mild and dumped tons of spicy salsa on it. His enchiladas were also a bit tame which required a heavy dose of extra spicy salsa. The rice and refried beans were just ok. 4) 2 beef puffed tacos. Not bad. reminds me of the ones i ordered in San Antonio by the Riverwalk area. But this place needed to add more shredded beef into each taco. However, the heaping amount of guacamole was what saved this entree and kinda overpowered the shredded beef. Perhaps to make up for the small amount of shredded beef??? Overall-decent. Another yelp reviewer said it is what Chipotle should be. I would agree. Would i return. Probably. It had so much pepper in it I thought maybe the pepper shaker broke?? I asked and they said that's how the chicken is.. strange if you ask me.
