Cantina e Cucina is good & popular. We came for lunch, but ate like it was dinner starting with a bottle of house Cantina e Cucina Chianti. The 16€ bottle from Trambusti Gonfalone of Chianti DOCG wrapped in blanched-straw delivered a smooth red table wine that made up for for it's simplicity and 12.5% abv by being real Italian chianti. A huge Tagliatelle il Genuino was a beautiful tasting plate of Ham, Salami, Cheese, and Walnuts intended to be shared ... and was with smiles. This could easily of left us both satisfied as a mid-day meal. Of course, we weren't done. A gorgeous Pizza Diavola with Tomato, Mozzarella, and Spicy Salami (plus a solitary green olive) was satisfying though not stellar Italian pizza. We pigged out on the slices while reminiscing about the plate of prosciutto and cheeses we just finished. Less memorable although equally attractive was Saltimbocca alla Romana (Escalope Veal with Parma Ham & Sage) served with a simple Salad and side of grilled Zucchini. This place was a dream and I could not have asked for a better experience if I tried. My wife found this place after making a small list of restaurants to try and this place did not disappoint. To begin, we were seated in the middle of the restaurant by "AF" who was also our waitress, she answered all our questions regarding the menu and even gave some recommendations she thought we would like which ended up being the Lasagna and the Rustica Pizza which was amazing. The staff was super friendly and asked where we were from while waiting for the food to arrive which sparked up conversation about how old the restaurant was and about the area surrounding the spot. It was pleasant conversation before dinner which kinda made our night and once the fold arrived I only wish I could have ordered even more from the menu. This place is a gem and unlike restaurants in the US they don't care about over booking the inside of the restaurant so you are squished like sardines in a can and can't even hear your self speak. The whole night is one to remember the beautiful city of Rome with my wife and this restaurant. read more

Everyone said this was the must try restaurant in Rome and to come early because otherwise you'd have to wait in a long line! So, we arrived very early for lunch. It might have just been noon and we were seated right away. But very quickly the restaurant began filling up. As we were leaving the restaurant, there was a very long line waiting outside! Ordered the cacio e pepe and a pizza. The pasta was absolutely delicious, however a little much in portion and heaviness so I couldn't finish it. The pizza was good as well. For dessert I got the tiramisu which I had to wait an unusual amount of time for. And when it arrived, I was sad that it was more like a soupy pudding in a cup, rather than a soft sponge cake-like tiramisu. Needless to say, I did not like the dessert. Service was incredibly slow, and we spent a long time in the restaurant. No one checked in on us so we were just hanging out. It was also hard flagging them down. But they spoke English and had menus in different languages. I'd recommend this restaurant and the cacio e Pepe! read more

Really cozy restaurant. Very popular so there was a line, but it moves very quickly. There's also outdoor seating. Ordered the cacio e Pepe, amatriciana, and the Napoli pizza(sardines). The dishes were excellent. The pasta was fresh and had a great chew to it. The amatriciana sauce was the best I had. The pizza was a tad salty but to be expected given the toppings. Great service, great spot for lunch! My boyfriend and I got the four cheese pizza (and asked if we could add sausage to it) and the carbonara. Both were excellent! The carbonara had a nice texture to it, not stiff but not overcooked. The pizza was wonderful, how can anyone hate four cheese pizza?? We just ordered both and split them so we could try one pasta and one pizza. The service was fine when we came but we also came around 3pm for a later lunch. It was still relatively packed though and we got one of the last tables. I love the waiters and waitresses here! They are all so nice and accommodating. This is one of those spots where if you are in the area, definitely stop by but I wouldn't necessarily go all the way across town to get here. read more

Love this Restaurant! There's often a line to get in, but it's well worth it! They took drink orders while we were waiting which made the wait time seem shorter. Once when I came by at around 7, there was a long line they advised coming back later in the evening... we came back at around 9 or 9:30 and there was no line. Excellent Roman food. Came here with my husband during our honeymoon. Atmosphere and good food definitely adds to a great honeymoon, and this place definitely hit the mark! Hands down the best Italian restaurant I've ever been to! We got here around 8pm and the line was out the door! You know what that means - it's poppin!! It was about 45min-hour wait but the hostess Anna made the wait go by so quickly! They offered complementary wine as we wait - thank you! Best service ever! The line is so worth the wait so stick to it! Georgia was our waitress and she took the service to next level! Full of energy, super nice and makes sure you're having a great time at all times! My husband and I landed in Rome and we were ready to eat some great food. We saw that this was close to our Air BnB and decided to give it a try based off of that and it's high yelp reviews. However, we left here disappointed and a bad memory for our first meal in Italy. The service here was great, but the food experience was not. We ordered fried calamari and we were so excited for it. We thought, "hey, were in Italy - let's get some authentic stuff." The calamari came out and it was extremely chewy. You could taste that it was not fresh and it was frozen breaded calamari that was fried up quickly. We waited an awfully long time for our entrees after that. I had ordered pizza and my husband had ordered gnocchi with clams. I had ordered the Diavola pizza. It was just so bland. I don't know how pizza could be so tasteless. My husband on the other hand had an even worse experience. His dish had a lot of clams, however most of clam shells were broken in his pasta. Every bite he chewed on clam shells. He ended up chewing on a rubber band. The server was extremely apologetic about what happened and didn't charge him for his meal. She even gave us a shot of limoncello. Finding a rubber band in your meal is unacceptable. We will not be coming back! read more

TLDR. - waited forever for water but we don't come for the water do we. - Service was meh, kinda like a dead hooker, cold and forgetful. Wow you must be a dumbass for waiting quietly, perhaps you should remind them. I did. Three times. Same waitress. Alzheimer's? And here we are. 21 minutes later and nearly half an hour and finally the magical water appears. Weird they charge for water in Italy but I'm cool with that honestly. About to chow down. Honestly the food is nothing really to write home about. Unless you're stopping by and was in the area, it has a more diverse selection of meals but roughly the same as every other tourist haunt. Get your booty into the ghettos and taste some real food. If you're looking for food, in a convenient and decorative setting that's kind of where it ends. Looking for water? Convenience store and drinking fountains.. don't bother ordering it here. Asked them to leave the menu so I may order more. Seems as though they are part ninja. Stole my menu. Thank god they did because there's only so much disappointment I can contain. Waited so long for the check just got up and went to checkout to get the check. Honestly, the food here wasn't the most memorable for us, but the service was definitely friendly, fast, and great overall! Given our experiences in Rome thus far (where restaurants expect us to order drinks apart from water), we decided to start off with a simple lemon soda. We then ordered an appetizer of fried Roman artichokes and smoked salmon rocket salad. I found the artichokes to be mediocre. Though they were fried to a perfect golden crisp in appearance, it wasn't really that crispy nor fragrant. The smoked salmon salad, however, was really good! The portion of smoked salmon was very generous (you can literally see it filling the entire surface area of the plate), and there was a ton of cheese, walnuts, and rocket greens. We then also got two mains - the carbonara, and the cacio e pepe. Both kind of tasted the same? They were just really heavy with the parmesan. The carbonara had some interesting fragrant bacon/pork belly bits, but both dishes were not memorable. That being said, the server was always very friendly and never failed to greet us with a smile. We even received free limoncellos on the house! When we left, the waiter also graciously gifted us with lollipops haha. The restaurant is amazing at marketing - they actively push you to leave reviews on their TripAdvisor site. It's pretty smart, for what they lack in food quality, they definitely make up for in service! We need to step it up, Yelp - when I asked if Yelp would suffice for reviews, they said no. :( read more

Walking up a small incline to this homey, close to the sights Romanesque setting, you get a feel the food is going to be good and authentic. The greeter understands a wide array of backgrounds and people types as you walk in to a tourist like location but with a staff that is very Italian and welcoming. They ask "where are you from?" and precede to sit you and welcome you to Italy. From there, my wife and I sit to look at the food menu. My first thought is "pizza" and "pasta", so that's what we settled for, our first meal in Rome. We ordered Cacio E Pepe Pizza, Spaghetti and Meatballs, and Grilled Veggies as a healthy third option. The pizza: 4.2/5. Thin style Roman fire brick pizza. Fantastic mix of cheeses, fresh thin dough that was cooked with that light crisp you want but not overdone, and massive portion. Spaghetti and Meatballs: 4.5/5. Fresh tomato based sauce. Amazing homemade noodles. Flavorful and large meatballs. One area of improvement would be slightly more sauce, in my opinion. Grilled veggies were well cooked and aided in our main two dishes. I would recommend it for a place near the sights in Rome, and would come back next time in this area in Rome for a hearty lunch. read more
