Muy tasty food, $3 house margaritas that are good on Wednesdays, great service. Only negative is the salsa which too tomato sauce like & not fresh salad like w plenty of cilantro & onion. The fajitas were large chunks of meat well marinated & grilled. The quesobirrias were very good w shredded beef & consome to dunk & sip. I have never before left a Yelp review, but I feel a duty to the public well-being to post this for all to see.This is genuinely the worst Mexican food I have ever eaten in my life. Salsa is almost certainly Ragu marinara sauce with some added spices. The queso tasted like the kind you get in tubs from the grocery store. Also, good luck eating either of these items with the frozen over chips they'll bring out (these tasted like 2-day old opened Tostitos). The "house margarita" was absolutely atrocious and a sorry excuse for a margarita. I am fairly certain that the drink is made from lime green gatorade powder (you can see powder specs in the photo). Do not come to this restaurant under any circumstances. Horrible, horrible experience and a waste of $30. P.S. the red sauce that comes with the chicken tortilla soup is extremely spicy (why this comes with soup I do not know). read more

We gave it 2 trys. We are local and wanted it to be good. My chicken quesadilla was fine which is why this isn't 1 Star. My husband and our neighbor had mystery meat - which should have been a chicken enchilada plate and a chicken chimichanga. Salsa is oddly sweet. Chips are stale. My kids pink lemonade was strawberry kiwi something - not lemonade. We won't do it again. It should be better for the price but it just isn't good. read more

We went on a Monday around 5, and we're seated right away. The staff were knowledgeable, attentive, and pleasant. After asking a few questions on the two dishes I was stuck on, the waiter helped me choose the burrito supreme. It came out very quickly and was fresh and hot with all the sides and toppings you'd expect. He made sure to check on us throughout our meal and make sure we had cold drinks throughout. Reasonably priced, authentic atmosphere, and great service. The only thing I can see being a potential irritant is the fee for chips and salsa - but in this day an age I understand it and gladly paid the $3, and it was worth it. Came here for dinner our first night in Gulf Shores, after a long drive from Indiana and a really bad lunch experience. Service was good and prompt. We were absolutely starving and our food came out super quick. My friend had the combo with bean burrito, cheese enchilada, and veggie taco. I had a taco salad with ground beef. All of our food (and the salsa) was delicious! Everything was fresh with great flavor. Definitely would have eaten here again during our trip if there weren't so many other places we wanted to try. read more

Cantina La Luz is our hidden gem in Gulf Shores. Hidden in a corner of the strip mall between Fish River Grill and Rouses both awesome in their own respects which kind of hides this awesome place. The owner and the staff are all top notch. Fluent in English and Spanish some a bit more of one than the other tells you out the gate that its going to be good and authentic. I can't say what meal I like best because I keep getting different stuff and I haven't found something I don't like. Meals such as authentic Quesarira, Pasteles, Carnitas, Birria Ramen Soup (My Fav) , Cuban, Carne Asada etc etc. Even the every day Guacamole is awesome made fresh and so... good. Cheese Dip yum... Have I made you hungry yet? Stop in and tell them "1/2 Time" The biker dude sent ya.. The owner will know who sent ya. Our server was great and very attentive but I did see another server being rude to the table next us. Food was ok at best. Unfortunately my family and I all got sour stomachs and belly aches after eating here. The tamale is better after putting green sauce on top. It was my first visit here yesterday, in taco Tuesday, and had a very pleasant experience. This was formerly the Tequila Mexican Restaurant but is now Cantina La Luz. It's just been opened by a young family from Mexico with a real chef in the kitchen with some nice choices of dishes. They have an all new menu with good solid Mexican cuisine. This restaurant is located in the shopping center at the corner of Hwy 59 & Ft Morgan Rd next to Rouses and Subway and as of today (9/15/21) the outside of the entrance still has the storm damaged sign of Tequila. The interior is virtually unchanged but that's where the similarities end because the people and the food are all new. We were immediately greeted and seated by Ricardo who also was our server. He was friendly, attentive and informative and made some great suggestions. We were there during happy hour (3-6) so we started with a pitcher of Dos Equis and limes and munched on the complimentary chips and salsa. I was anxious to try them because I sometimes find those are like a harbinger of what's to follow, and it was a very pleasant start. The chips were fresh and weren't salty, but were warm, crispy and light plus the salsa was a nice consistency with an appropriate amount of heat and spice, promising. The menu is on one page that had 3 apps, 5 à la carte items, pick 2 or 3 combos of chicken, beef, shrimp or steak, sides and 13 house specialties. A couple interesting choices are the Mojarra Frita, a fried whole fish dish, and Weecho's Cuban which is a Cuban sandwich made with Spanish-style pork. There's also a kids menu (10 & under) with a bar menu that consists of margaritas, a few wines, Mexican drafts, and domestic and imports beers. On to the food, I asked Ricardo about the specials, specifically the Quesabirria and the Birria Taco ("birria" is pronounced "beer reea"). He became very animated about the Birria and said that it's a delicious and a big hit. I went with the Quesabirria dinner, which is two of those with rice and beans. The Quesabirria is a like a taco with double tortillas stuffed with a very tender and tasty roasted chopped beef with queso that comes with chopped onions, fresh chopped cilantro and a lime on the side. The thing that really makes this extraordinary is the bowl of dipping sauce that is super packed with herbs, spice and deliciousness. It's like a Mexican steak au jus, really very flavorful. The beans and rice are good, I even drizzled some of that tasty sauce over the whole plate, yums. I asked about the availability of the Birria's and was happy to learn that they will be on the menu permanently soon. My sweetheart opted for a Pick 2 with veggie Quesadilla and beef Chile Relleno with beans & rice. She enjoyed her entire meal and I tried the Relleno which was different from most that I've had. It was seasoned and cooked well with the grilled & charred Chile & atop a tortilla smothered in seasoned ground beef and sprinkled with Cojita cheese, nice. I'm looking forward to returning to try some of the other offerings and to see how they settle and grow into their culinary future. Service was great, however my wife & I are vegetarian & the menu is very deceiving. They offer veggie tacos/quesadillas & burritos. All of which come with meat. There is meat in their rice & refried beans (which is not specified on their menu). We had already ordered drinks & salsa when the waitress disclosed this info to us. So we had to pay $15 & leave. Check your reciept they will charge a tip before you leave one. Food is great but it's not an upscale restraunt... it's a hole in the wall that over charges... the only Mexican restraunt in the county that charges for chips and salsa.... My family and I decided to try someplace new in golf Shores for Mexican food and we were delightfully pleasantly surprised! The staff was so friendly the food was amazing the top shelf margarita was delicious the queso cheese was to die for and they even brought a bowl of water out for my dog and a special plate of chicken on the house. I will no longer be going to the other restaurant up the street this will be my new go to the vegetable burrito was absolutely delectable I highly recommend this place and can't wait to indulge again this time I might try the Mezcal beverage that was on the menu I don't know how they can be the top shelf margarita though! This restaurant doesn't have some of the real estate flash of many other restaurants in this area but the food was very good. Everything we tried was A+. The chips and Salsa, the queso dip, the chimichangas and quesadillas, even their flour tortillas were great. I will eat here again the next time I am in town. It is worth noting , the chips and salsa were not complementary like they are at most Mexican food restaurants. We had to pay for them as an appetizer. I don't hold that against them. Let me start by saying that I love MEXICAN food and have eaten it all over the country as well as cook it at home, so I know what good Mexican food is. This was by FAR the worst Mexican food I have EVER had. For starters the place is old and outdated and dirty inside, which was the least of the issues. We were seated and given no silverware or napkins and still received none once given chips and dip. Now anyone knows that when you get chips and salsa and or cheese dip it always drips off onto yourself or the table. Napkins should be a must to start off with and a given. Then I asked for jalapeños and they brought out sliced pickled ones so I then asked for fresh ones and they brought out chopped pickled ones. ‍ I got 3 street tacos on corn tortillas and it was flower ones that were falling apart. Rice was hard and re heated. Margaritas were too sweet and almost un drinkable. By far the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever ate at. Will not be going back. read more

Was not expecting this experience! Tired of the same old Mexican food in the area.... One sauce fits all enchiladas / burritos / Chalupas .... NOT HERE! Specific care is taken with each entree and side.... The beef is not over seasoned OR over sauced.... You can taste individual flavors of the ingredients AND the layering of flavors.... Extremely pleased to FINALLY have an authentic Mexican experience.... The menu even features Mexican OR American style tacos (Which are completely different).... You can get street style tacos or hard shell Americanized food if you prefer.... SO IMPRESSED with my first visit.... Will be back for sure!
