Prompt, Friendly, and Courteous Service! We arrived in Gulf Shores this evening after driving from Northwest Indiana, and we were dog tired. I called our order in so that we could just go to our hotel room, eat and relax. We ordered 4 different kinds of quesadillas: 1 Vegetarian, 1 Chicken, 1 Steak, and 2 Shrimp. We also ordered chips, salsa, and guacamole. Each order had its own bowl of veggies, sour cream and pico de gallo included. Nice touch! My server was very polite and friendly over the phone, and was very courteous and helpful when I went in to pick up my order. The food and customer service was exceptional. Well I really wanted to like this place....stopped in on a Friday evening shortly before 6:30. We ordered margaritas, guacamole, a cheese dip and a kids meal. We then ordered our meals after we received our water. The dips then came out followed shortly by the kids meal. The Margaritas took a bit to come out, we were told the bar was slammed. Okay, I get it, Friday evening, Spring Break, no worries. Our food was another story...After we watched 6 other tables with 4 or more guests that came in after us (4 and a toddler) order, eat, pay and leave and we still didn't have our food, and had been told 3 separate times that the kitchen was running behind (eye roll), and an hour had now lapsed since being seated, it was time to ask for a manager. How can 6 other tables that got seated and ordered AFTER us, order, get their appetizers, bar drinks and food, pay and leave and another table get seated and get their food and we still didn't have our food if the kitchen was running behind? (I think perhaps someone forgot to enter our order...???) We were done, the toddler was now screaming, we were ready to go. I did say I'd pay for what we did receive, a kids meal, the drinks and the guacamole and the Manager told us she would take care of this. Thank you! . There's also a photographer that goes around taking pictures and will give you a postcard for free, and offers additional pictures for purchase. Very bad experiences, food always cold, poor serving staff and poor management skills. They do not care about customer service. The manager said if you have a problem with our food and service you can go somewhere else to eat. I didn't really care for my hubby's steak (fajitas) but he'll probably tell you it was good. Haha. I didn't care for the style of rice or refried beans. But I'm probably just picky. Looking around, I saw a lot of people with margaritas and other adult beverages. Their margs seemed to be very popular! There are people walking around taking photos of your table and giving you the option to purchase the photos. Something to consider if you have foster kids or have a unique situation where you'd prefer not to be photographed. There's a rubber duck claw machine up front that kept my kids VERY BUSY! All that to say we basically knew nothing about this place before and had 0 pre-conceived notions. Seating: We were seated right away; 0 wait. The atmosphere was festive, but not too loud. Our server, Leroy, came by quickly to introduce himself and take our drink order. I asked for the standard Corona and my wife got the frozen strawberry margarita. The frozen marg was actually VERY good. Service: Leroy was an AWESOME server for us. Fantastic attitude and made very good (and slightly unexpected) recommendations on the food. My wife ordered the Taco Salad (yes, standard fare) and I ended up going with the Street Corn Elote Tacos. I tried to customize how I wanted it, but Leroy emphatically encouraged me to just go with them as they are, including the grits as as side. I hate grits, but the response I received was "Trust Leroy". Ok, I will trust Leroy. Food: I will never doubt Leroy. That guys was 100% right. The tacos were incredible. The grits were very good as well. Great taste for all of it. Conclusion: This location of Cactus Cantina was a great stop for us. Ambience was decent and lively. No one answered the phone when I called to place a pick up order so just went into the restaurant and placed my order. Staying less than a quarter of a mile away at a beach front property. My order was taken very promptly and politely, I tipped 20%. Was told it would be about 20 minutes or so, so I went to the bar and was very nicely served by the bartender and I had a drink to sip while I waited at the pick up point. As I waited, I realized I probably should've ordered some extra sour cream, so approached the front desk where I placed my order and gave them a $10 bill and told them to keep the change for a little extra sour cream added to my order. I didn't see any action on the part of the order taker so i was a little concerned. My order came out 10 minutes later and of course no sour cream. Waited around probably 10 minutes while holding my three bags of food for the sour cream until a manager walked by and asked me if I needed anything and to his credit, he got me the sour cream. I drove the three minutes back to my hotel and the food was old and cold. Tacos falling apart, enchiladas ice cold. It's clear the food sat around for quite a while before being brought out to me. maybe if I dined in it would've been better but very disappointed after dropping 100 bucks for two people. The kitchen manager came out and explained my gluten free options which are limited because their sides all have Knor bouillon in them but we got guac and I couldn't even finish both steak tacos because of the generous portion size. I ordered food to go that included queso, combo nachos and chicken tenders for a kid. The service was excellent, and the staff was really nice. The queso was fantastic and the nachos were really good. It had steak, chicken and shrimp, and the portions were really big.
